Mrs Lambos is switching off...

On Wednesday, I commence long-service leave. I am flying out to Slovenia for a study tour, visiting schools in Ljubljana. I will share pics and learnings from my trip when I return to school on Wednesday 1 May. Until then, 'au revoir'!

In the meantime, Mrs Nancy Riley will be relieving for me.

The Department of Education (DoE), along with the NSW Teachers Federation, have developed an 'Expectations for Digital Communications' policy. The DoE is committed to limiting work-related communications with teachers outside of regular school operating hours.

Prioritising time for teachers to relax, recharge and maintain a healthy balance between professional and personal life is essential for continued creativity, effectiveness and long-term career satisfaction.

Expectations:

  • teachers may choose not to respond to non-emergency, work-related messages outside of school operating hours, including evenings, weekends and school holidays
  • teachers will respond to communication within 2 school days, under normal circumstances
  • families to schedule non-emergency communication to be sent during school operating hours
  • emails are ONLY to be sent to either of the 2 school email addresses - balmain.p-school@det.nsw.edu.au or balmainps@gmail.com - NOT to personal teacher emails. In the subject line, please use, 'ATT: teacher's name' or 'CONFIDENTIAL - ATT: Teacher's name'
  • for complex issues or discussions with your class teacher, an appointment at a suitable time for teachers is essential

Thank you for your support and understanding in this matter.

Colour Run Update!

What an amazing suprise visitor we had today at assembly! Thanks Chase for coming to be part of our slime spectacular this morning!

As we have raised over $35 000, we had the pleasure of sliming Ms Pitman, Ms Goodridge and Ms Bowman today.

Mr Kim is up for the first slime victim of Term 2, already hitting the target of $35 000.

Suprise late entry to the race, Ms Wheelan will be joining Mrs Archibald to be slimed when we reach $40 000. Mrs Archibald felt pretty safe this morning at assembly that we wouldn't reach that target and that she wouldn't be slimed. Can we prove her wrong Balmain?!

We have a new sliming challenge to announce - and this one’s for the kids!

All children that have raised over $250 by the start of Term 2 will go in the draw to be slimed! There will be 10 chances to WIN and slimings will occur (with parent permission) at 2.45pm on Friday 3 May.  Keep up the AMAZING fundraising Balmain!

With 4 weeks left to go, it’s time to start getting prepared for even more colour fun!

On the day, we encourage wearing a white t-shirt and accessorising with lots of rainbow colour, including glasses to protect eyes!

You can use any old clothes and dress-ups you have at home (think tutus, ribbons, socks, sunnies) or if you would like to buy new, we have set some items up on Flexischools. The school receives a portion of each of these sales, which will go directly towards our technology fundraising.

Get creative and go colour crazy!

Why Attendance Matters | Minutes Lost Per Day: A number of students at our school are consistently coming to school late, or leaving early in the afternoons, including students trying to catch an 'early bus' prior to dismissal time...These are not including the 'one-off' appointments that may arise. This visual is from the Department of Education...

PLEASE KEEP THEM COMING! We're collecting plastic bottle lids for a special project. Please wash and dry instead of recycling. There is a collection box in the foyer, outside the office. Thanks so much for your help!

SPOTLIGHT ON...

5/4 SPRINGBOK!!!

What's on in 5/4S

We're thrilled to share an exciting venture that has unfolded within 5/4 Springbok over the past six weeks. In a whirlwind of creativity and imagination, our students embarked on a journey towards crafting their very own narrative books.

Inspired by the captivating tale of "The Wild Robot," penned by the talented author Peter Brown, our budding writers delved into the realm of science fiction. Guided by their enthusiasm and fueled by their own ingenuity, they embarked on the task of drafting and editing their own sci-fi stories. What truly set this project apart was the incorporation of a unique twist: each student created a robot character of their own. From sleek, futuristic designs to quirky, endearing personalities, these mechanical protagonists came to life within the pages of their narratives.

Throughout the process, students honed their writing skills, exploring elements of plot development, character building, and world-building. Students  learned to weave together intricate storylines while infusing their own imaginative flair into every chapter As the weeks progressed, drafts were refined, ideas were expanded upon, and creativity flourished. With each edit, students delved deeper into the intricacies of storytelling, mastering the art of crafting compelling narratives that captivate the reader's imagination.

Finally, the moment arrived to bring their tales to fruition. Armed with their finalized manuscripts, students ventured into the realm of digital design, using Canva to create visually stunning layouts for their books. From vibrant cover designs to meticulously formatted pages, each detail was carefully crafted to showcase the culmination of their hard work and creativity. With great pride and anticipation, the students eagerly awaited the final step of their journey: the printing and binding of their books. Soon, these tangible manifestations of their imagination will find a place on their bookshelves, serving as a testament to their dedication and talent.

***COMPASS IS OUR MAIN FORM OF COMMUNICATING WITH YOU***In case of urgent/important communication, notifications via the Compass app on your phone will keep you informed***

To ensure you receive all communication via Compass, please have the app downloaded on your phone, with the notifications turned ON.

Although the school pushes out notifications via the app and email, there may be times when an important message may be missed as emails may sometimes not be checked regularly.

If there were to be an emergency, (hopefully not), information would be pushed out via Compass.

Payments online

All online payments are now made using COMPASS.
