Important Diary Dates

From the Principal

On Monday I attended the annual Leaders Day in Adelaide. Much of the content this year was centred around our new Public Education Strategy. This infographic shows you the areas of impact that we are prioritising. As a staff we have begun exploring the new strategy and will be considering where we are already targeting our energies and where we can focus to continue to build a better Nuriootpa PS. You will see evidence of these priorities throughout this newsletter and in continuing communication to and from school.

Dress Code

Thank you to all of our families who have ensured that their children have school hats and appropriate uniform at school. Students are looking great and are well protected from the sun out in the yard. Please also be reminded that:

Only sleepers or stud earrings are to be worn.

Students will be asked to remove items that are:

•       Deemed to be a safety risk eg rubber chokers; long, pointy or large earrings, unbreakable chains, bangles

We have some students wearing choker necklaces, chains and some longer dangly earrings. Apart from them being a distraction, the main concern is that they can be a safety hazard. We, as a school, are obligated to ensure that there are no injuries caused due to students wearing such items. Can you please consider whether this pertains to your child and support us with their removal for school.

Likewise, as its still lovely warm weather (warm?!! VERY HOT!) we are seeing students in sandals that offer very little protection while out in the yard. If you have alternative footwear your child should be wearing shoes with a front and back which can protect feet should they fall or have any type of accident.

Thank you for your continued support. Enjoy a lovely long weekend, try to stay cool 😎

From the Deputy Principal

We are past halfway through the term already, time flies when you’re having fun. Year 3 students completed NAPLAN readiness testing last week. This is an important step in preparing for NAPLAN Online. The purpose of readiness testing activities is to ensure year 3 students are familiar with their device and the online test environment, as well as to test school and national infrastructure systems and processes. Students are not expected to study for NAPLAN. You can support your child by reassuring them that NAPLAN is a part of their school program and reminding them to simply do their best. Some explanation of NAPLAN is useful to help students understand and be comfortable with the format of the tests; however, it is not necessary for parents/carers to do this. Teachers will ensure students are familiar with the types of questions in the tests and will provide appropriate support and guidance. The official testing for year 3 and 5 students begins on Wednesday 13th March. These tests will be conducted between 13th and 25th. NAPLAN helps parents, carers and educators to see if children are meeting important numeracy and literacy standards. If you have any queries or concerns around NAPLAN, please feel free to give me a call.

Wellbeing at NPS

From the Wellbeing Leader

It's been a busy term so far and it will likely get busier still. We've had lots of exciting developments in the area of Student Agency including the formation of our Student Executive Group (SEG) for this year. We've had Scott's Amazing BMX Show which included a great message of how the values of persistence and hard work, as well as being patient, can lead you to achieving your dreams.  Next week we have another group of visitors at our school, the SA Police School Beat Band who are coming to play a concert for us and share information about the police and road safety.

The new SEG will be hosting their first assembly this Friday and as a part of that they will be presenting the first edition of their new Nuriootpa Primary News bulletin. If you can't be there don't worry, we will be posting this report to our social media profiles too.

Please also consider the two flyers below passed onto me by Barossa Enhance Mental Health, particularly the 'Totally Rad Dads' event to be held at the Barossa Go-Kart Club next weekend.

Thank you for being such great, supportive families.

Mr. Norton's Year 5/6 Classroom News

We are looking at our life through our values!

"What we know matters, but who we are matters more" - Brene Brown

To start the term Mr. Norton's year 5/6 class thought about what the quote above means to us. We quickly realised that when we live into our values, we are being our best self.
We then took the time to go through and look at a list of values and had the tricky task of identifying our top 20, then our top 10, then finishing with our top 6. Finally we created these values selfies with our values printed onto the sunglasses, to show that when we look into the world around us with our values, and when others see us living our values then we are at our best.
