Red Cross Pillowcase Program

The school has organised for the Red Cross Pillowcase project to come and work with our students on Wednesday 25th and Friday 27th October.

The Pillowcase Program is a disaster resilience education program designed to help children prepare for, cope with, and respond to emergencies. It’s a free 60-minute workshop delivered in schools by Red Cross volunteers and staff. The workshop encourages students to be active participants in their own emergency preparedness. The program includes a discussion about the importance of being prepared, as well as interactive activities to help students prepare their minds for an emergency and consider what to pack in an emergency kit. Students are then given a pillowcase to decorate and take home to start their own personal emergency kit, hence the program’s title.

Canberra Trip

This week the Stage 3 students have been in Canberra and have visited many sites in the National Capital. A huge thank you to Mrs Shaw for her organisation of the trip, a lot of work goes on behind the scenes to make this happen. Thank you also to Mrs Willet, Mr DeMattia and Mr Hancock for making the commitment to provide this opportunity for the students. Teaching staff willingly give up their own time to make this happen.

Check In Assessments

Over the past weeks, students in Years 3, 4 and 5 have been completing the NSW Department of Education Check In Assessments for Reading and Numeracy. These assessments give the school a good indication on how the students in each year group are tracking against the syllabus outcomes.

School Swimming Program

Applications for the School Swimming Scheme have now closed. Blaxland Public School Swimming program will be held at Glenbrook pool starting on Monday 30th October through to Friday 3rd November. The students will be leaving school at 12:40pm each day and they will be arriving back at 2:40pm.

K-6 Assembly Monday 30th October

Due to the School Swimming Scheme, the K-6 Assembly will start at 11:40am on Monday 30th October.

Public Speaking Finalists

Congratulations Eleanor, Susanna, Maddie and Adelaide on your selection to represent the school at the Blue Mountains Public Speaking Competition at Winmalee Public School on Tuesday 21st November 2023.
