Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

Premier’s Spelling Bee

Congratulations to Kiara and Amelia, who represented Jamberoo at the next stage of the Premier’s Spelling Bee on Monday. While they will not be progressing further, both girls did a fantastic job and we are very proud of their efforts.

Debating

Jamberoo’s debating team of Sienna, Maeve, Zahli and Zane went head-to-head with Marulan in a sudden-death regional final. With cool confidence and some incredible comebacks, our team out-argued the opposition and claimed the win. Next stop .... the regional finals! Congratulations debaters and a HUGE thank you to Mrs Behl-Shanks for supporting the group!

Tournament of Minds

This Sunday, Kiara, Zane, Elsie, Indi, Cate, Zahli and Maeve will represent Jamberoo at the University of Wollongong in the Tournament of Minds. They’ll take on the Language Literature challenge plus a surprise round against schools from across the region.

Book Week, Book Fair and Book Parade

The Scholastic Book Fair opens Tuesday morning and will run before and after school each day. Every purchase helps our school, with funds going towards new resources such as readers for our students. Families can also choose to donate a book directly to the library — donated books will be labelled with the student’s name. Don’t forget our Book Parade on Wednesday — a fun chance for students to dress up as their favourite book characters and celebrate the joy of reading!

All Book Week info is below.

Library Lessons

We encourage students to bring their books back on Wednesday of week 6 so the library monitors can return them. Library lessons will be with Mrs Green on Friday due to book parade, secret teacher swap (where the class gets a surprise teacher for a book experience) and the book fair.

Grandparents' Day

We are so excited to welcome our grandparents to JPS on Thursday of next week with a morning tea in the hall at 9:30, class performances, classroom visits and a trip to the book fair (should they wish to).

Please see times below on the invitation.

Kiama Bi-Election BBQ

Please come on down to JPS to vote on the 13th of September. The P&C will have a BBQ stall set up with sausage sizzles and drinks. If you are able to help or help at the Bunnings BBQ, please click here. There will be some small stalls to browse and purchase items, should you choose to. Please bring cash if you would like to purchase something. The P&C have eftpos facilities but other stalls may not.

If your child or family would like to run a stall at the election event, we would love to hear from you! We kindly ask that items for sale are of good quality. Stallholders are asked to contact Rebecca Niblock (please call the office if you do not have her number) to express their interest. Please note that spaces are limited, so be sure to get in early! We kindly encourage stallholders to consider making a small donation to the P&C to help cover the cost of their stall, although this is entirely optional.

As the P&C will be running a BBQ stall, no additional food stalls will be permitted.

We can’t wait to see the creativity and community spirit our families bring!

Support for Families

We are very fortunate to receive ongoing financial support from the Lions Club through our P&C. This generosity allows us to assist families with the cost of uniforms, incursions, excursions and camps, ensuring that every child has access to the full range of opportunities at Jamberoo Public School.

If your family would like to access this support, a simple request form is available through SchoolBytes or give me a call on the school number. This can be completed at any time and will be treated confidentially.

Trivia Night

See you all tomorrow night for trivia, it is sure to be a fun event!

Debating Success – Jamberoo vs Marulan

Jamberoo Public School recently hosted Marulan Public School for a sudden-death regional final in the Premier’s Debating Challenge. Our talented team—Sienna, Maeve, Zahli, and Zane—took on the challenging topic: “Kids who ride their bikes to school should receive rewards such as early marks or canteen vouchers.” Arguing against the idea, our students delivered confident, well-structured arguments, that impressed the adjudicator and successfully swayed the debate in Jamberoo’s favour. Their teamwork and cutting rebuttal secured the win, allowing Jamberoo to progress to the next round of the regional final series.

Zahli off to State

The spoiler is in the header but it is too big to bury in the article! On Monday, Zahli competed at the regional final Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking competition. With more than 2,000 students competing in regional finals across NSW, the standard was incredibly high. Zahli blew the adjudicators (and audience) away with her confident, thought-provoking speech. She shared the importance of art, literature and dance in communicating messages and immersing people in culture. She went on to combine this with a clever impromptu speech talking about environmental concerns. Her outstanding performances saw her crowned the Illawarra and South Coast Regional Champion. Zahli will now represent our region as one of just 12 Stage 3 students from across the state to compete at the NSW State Final in October. We can’t wait to cheer her on – bring it on, Zahli.

Tournament of Minds – The Full Cream Team

This Sunday, while many enjoy a cosy, rain-filled day, our talented Tournament of Minds team will be hard at work representing Jamberoo Public School at the University of Wollongong. Kiara, Zane, Elsie, Indi, Cate, Zahli and Maeve will present their creative response to the Language Literature challenge before tackling a spontaneous challenge against schools from across the region. We look forward to celebrating their efforts and sharing more about their challenge in next week’s newsletter. Best of luck, Full Cream Team – you’ve got this!

Kiama Library Incursion

Birrahlee and Nanga Mai were lucky enough to have Elizabeth who is the Kiama Council Librarian, come to the school for an incursion. Elizabeth provided an introduction to Kiama Library, read 'Peek-a-Boo Lottie'  and taught the children how to say 'peek-a-boo' in different languages. Students also listened to the story, 'One Little Dung Beetle' and students acted out being a beetle. It was a great laugh!

We thank Elizabeth for visiting Jamberoo Public School and for her kind feedback, noting how welcoming the staff and students are and describing the children as “delightful”.

Grandparents' Day - Week 6

Grandparents' Day

We are delighted to invite all grandparents and grand friends to join us for Grandparents’ Day at Jamberoo Public School — a special morning dedicated to celebrating the cherished role grandparents play in our children's lives.

The morning will begin with a morning tea at 9:30am, where families can reconnect and enjoy some light refreshments. From 9:45am, our students will take the stage to share performances filled with heart and joy — a true highlight of the day!

Following the performances, families are welcome to step inside the classrooms for a closer look at student learning during our classroom visits from 10:10am. Grandparents will have the opportunity to see students in their learning spaces, share a story, and admire the work they’ve been doing.

To wrap up the morning, our Book Fair will be open from 10:40–11:00am, giving grandparents the chance to help their grandchildren pick out a book or two — the perfect keepsake from a memorable day.

We can’t wait to welcome you to our school community and share this heartwarming celebration together.

Class Spotlight

Wombarra

This week in Kindergarten, we have been exploring the concept of dividing, or “sharing fairly.” Students have been practising how to share objects equally so that everyone gets the same amount. This hands-on learning has helped them to understand fairness and problem-solving in real-life situations. As part of our Dharawal language program, we have also been learning about the names of native animals and flowers. The children have enjoyed discovering new words and connecting these to the land and environment around us. This learning has sparked great curiosity and has helped build an appreciation of local culture and language. In creative arts, Kindergarten have been very busy designing and creating artwork for our upcoming production. Each piece of art reflects the imagination and creativity of our students and they are so proud of their efforts. The classroom has been full of colour, excitement and artistic expression as we prepare for this special event. We can’t wait for you to see our artwork on display at the production.

Mrs Galea

Birrahlee

Birrahlee have been busily preparing for Grandparent’s Day next week! We have done some special artworks that will be our gift to our grandparents on the day and we’ve also been preparing a special performance of a song that ties in with one of our character strengths. We can’t wait to show you all next Thursday.

Nanga Mai

This week has been another busy and exciting week of learning in Nanga Mai. In English, we’ve just begun exploring Desert Lake, a fascinating hybrid text that blends imaginative storytelling with rich factual information. It’s opening our eyes to the unique world of Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre and how dramatically it changes with the seasons. Inspired by the book’s style, we’ve been busy crafting our own hybrid texts on Kangaroos! Each student wrote two paragraphs: one imaginative and one informative, showcasing their creativity and their growing skills in factual writing. It’s been amazing to see how well everyone is blending storytelling with real-world knowledge. Meanwhile, in mathematics, we’ve been focusing on position and 3D objects. We’ve learned how to use grids to locate and describe positions – like giving directions on a treasure map! We’ve also been exploring how to draw 3D objects from different perspectives, thinking about how shapes look from the front, side, and top. It’s been a fun challenge that’s helping us improve our spatial thinking. Keep up the great work Nanga Mai!
