Principal’s Report

Mrs Chant

Welcome to Term 2. I can’t believe we are already in Week 4! A few points to note as we enter a new school term are below.

Staffing

I am on Long Service Leave from Thursday 11th May to Wednesday 17th May and Nikki Gauld will be acting Principal during this time. Thank you to Miss Melissa Ainsworth and Mrs Kim Foster for their support in the Deputy Principal role during this time.

Winter Uniform

A reminder that we expect our students to wear the full school uniform at all times, including the cooler months. Maroon jumpers and track pants are easily available via our School Uniform shop or Best and Less and Kmart. School hats are worn at all times when playing regardless of the weather. Please supply these items for your child at school with the item clearly labelled with their name.

Teacher check in

Did you miss our Parent Teacher interviews at the end of Term 1? Is it time to check in with your teacher on your child’s progress again? We encourage you to make a time with your teacher to discuss your child’s learning throughout the term. These can be easily organised by contacting your child’s teacher directly. Report cards will be emailed home on the last day of this term. If you have changed email addresses, please let the front office staff know. We are very happy to provide paper copies upon request. These can also be arranged through the front office.

Mother’s Day

Wishing all our mother’s and grandmother’s a very special Mother’s Day this weekend. We hope you are spoilt on Sunday! Our P&C are running their annual Mother’s Day stall this Thursday and Friday. Thank you for supporting one of our major fundraisers of the year.

School payments

A reminder that our payment due dates must be strictly adhered to in order for your child to participate in the invoiced event. We are always happy to organise a payment plan with you upon receipt of the invoice, but these must be arranged via our Business Manager, Sandy Currie, as soon as possible. Bad debts in our school limit the future invoiced opportunities for your child as the previous invoice must be paid in full before attending the new activity.

Under 8’s Day

Parents and families are welcome to attend Under 8’s Day with their child next Friday 19th May from 9:00am in the Prep area. Our teachers will be hosting activities for our students and you are welcome to join your child at each activity throughout the morning.

Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead,

Angela

Deputy Principal Update

Miss Gauld

ANZAC Day Ceremony

On the 20th April we held our school ANZAC Day Ceremony.  All children showed the utmost respect during the ceremony and should be congratulated for this.  Well done to Miah- Ann, Jemma, Laila and Mason who spoke incredibly well on the day.

Thank you to all the students who marched on ANZAC Day with the school. It was great to see the students there marching with pride as they represented the school.

Thank you to our school captains and vice captains who attended the dawn service on ANZAC Day.

Attendance

We started the year off very well with attendance but unfortunately it has started to drop off.  I understand that some students have been absent due to illness but some students are absent due to birthdays or having a shopping day, these reasons are not acceptable.

The class with the highest attendance will be having a pizza party at the end of the term. The top 10 classes are displayed in a graph every Monday on parade. Please see below for the graph to date:

Classes who have 95% attendance for 3 days in a week will be getting a certificate to be displayed in their classrooms. Congratulations to 5B and 6A who have obtained the goal for Week 4.

Junior School Classroom Reports

Prep

The Preps have had an eventful and productive start to the year, full to the brim with learning in their literacy groups, maths groups and during negotiated activity times. The students have been responsive to the Jolly Phonics program this year and we’re pleased to report that they are learning a lot of letters and sounds through songs and actions. This will undoubtedly help the Preps take their first big step into the world of reading and writing.

In term 1 our Science was all about the weather, and wow, we were able to observe a wide variety of weather. This term we are learning about materials and their properties. We are looking forward to making our wind ornament at the end of the term.

Please remember to check the SkoolBag App to keep up to date with upcoming events. For example- Under 8’s Day and Sports Day.

Check out the photo gallery below to see all the fun  we've been having. Prep/1D pics can be found under the Year 1 article.

Under 8's Day

Year 1

At the end of last term, Year 1 students had a very exciting visit from Wild Rangers. The students enjoyed learning about some of Australia’s native animals and their habitats, as well as sharing some of their own knowledge about how these habitats support the needs of the living things. Finally, the students were very excited to pat or hold the animals. Please enjoy some of the photos below.

The students have settled very quickly into Term 2 and are eager to continue their learning. In English this term, students are continuing to develop their understanding of narrative texts, including how characters change from the beginning to the end of the story. In Maths, students have been investigating the features of 2D and 3D shapes and will be exploring length and capacity using informal measurement. Science investigations this term will involve looking at various materials and their properties, and how these materials can be changed to serve a purpose. At the end of the term, students will put their knowledge to the test and choose materials to construct their very own boat.

1/2C

1/2C have settled in well to Term 2.  This term we are exploring Narratives and they are all very engaged in the stories we have shared so far.  Year 1 students are working towards writing a retell of a familiar narrative this term, where as the Year 2's are building on this to write an imaginative narrative using a known character.  All students are learning how to build on their writing skills of punctuation, spelling and using adjectives to enhance their writing.  In Mathematics this term students have just explored 2D and 3D shapes and will also be learning about measurement of length, capacity and area using informal units of measurement.  This term students will also be continuing to build on their understanding of place value in numbers and addition and subtraction stories.  In science this Semester students will be exploring life and living, including needs of living things, their habitats and lifecycles.

Year 2

Term 2 will once again prove to be a busy term in Year 2.

2A & 2B have the following on their agenda:

English

Students will be learning about poetry. We will explore language used for creating poems, including rhyme, rhythm, alliteration and repetition. Students will create their own poems and present them to an audience. They will listen to and analyse a number of poems and state their preference and explain their choice.

Maths

Students will be learning to represent numbers to 1000, use addition strategies for double digit problems, identify and describe 2D and 3D shapes and investigate measurement.

Science

Students will be learning about materials. Students are learning to pose questions, make predictions, conduct experiments and record observations. The unit finishes with an assessment where students create an object combining two materials to suit the purpose.

HASS

Students will continue learning about how people are connected to different places and why those places are significant. We will explore the world map by looking at the different continents and map features.

Visual Arts

Students will be experimenting with colour, shape and line to create different artworks. They will explore how each element creates emotion and visual effects. They will create a portfolio of work using mixed media.

MESSAGES FROM HOME

If parents find it necessary to alter their child’s routine, please notify the class teacher of the change and ensure that the child knows exactly what is required.

If contacting the office to notify your child of a change, you must do so by 12.00pm at the latest so that messages can be passed on to both the teacher and the child concerned. Once the children have been dismissed it is difficult to ensure the message will be received by the child in time. N.B. WE ARE UNABLE TO GUARANTEE THAT MESSAGES RECEIVED AFTER 12.00PM WILL BE PASSED ON TO STUDENTS.

No Smoking

Smoking is banned at all Queensland state and non-state schools (school facilities), and for 5 metres beyond their boundaries. The law applies at all times - during and after school hours, on weekends and during school holidays. It includes the use of all smoking products, including electronic cigarettes.

Lost Property

As always, we have a mountain of lost property piling up at school. A lot of it is unnamed which makes it extremely hard to get it returned to the rightful owner. If your student has lost any items direct them to the lost property bins which are located under A Block Administration Building, or you're welcome to pop in for a look yourselves. Please check there if your children are missing any of their belongings.

PLEASE MAKE SURE ALL BELONGINGS ARE CLEARLY LABELLED!

Chappy Corner

In a few weeks we celebrate Chappy week. Being a Chappy is such a privilege and I am thankful for the opportunity of coming to school each week and supporting our school community. During Chappy Week we have our annual Chappy Dinner. I would love to invite you to come along and join us for a very special night, celebrating and hearing all about chaplaincy in our local area, and listening to our guest speaker, Shaun Hart. The invitation is below and the registration link is https://brushfire.com/sua/dinner/553288

Chaplaincy is partially funded by our government, however, each chaplain needs to raise funds to cover the shortfall. This Chappy week, would you consider supporting chaplaincy here at Beaudesert State School? It is easy to donate and donations are tax deductible, simply scan the QR code and follow the link.

This term I have been excited to start a second Bella Girls Group with some year 6 girls. These Bella Girls Groups aim to encourage the girls to recognise their value and worth. I have also started an All Stars Friendship group with some year 4 girls. The All Stars Friendship group focuses on a different value of friendship each week.

Our HOPE cooking group has been busy cooking biscuits this term, starting with ANZAC biscuits and then some choc chip biscuits with special ones made for our Mums. Next week we will be cooking quiche. It was lovely having a member of the Rotary Sunrise Club come and join us one week to see first hand what we get up to. We are so thankful the way the Rotary Sunrise Club provide a donation every month to help us fund the ingredients for our cooking.

Brekky Club has been nice and busy and we expect will only become busier as the days get cooler. Brekky Club is on each Tuesday and Thursday, thanks to support from local churches and community groups, the YMCA and Scenic Rim 4 Real Milk.

This term our Kindness Challenges focuses heavily on being thankful. There are so many people in our lives to whom we should be thankful!! We started the term thanking our service men and women and posting off our notes and cards to the Kokoda Army Barracks. Some of the other people we are thanking this term are our amazing office staff, our Mums and those who care for us, our nurses, our P&C and our cleaners. Last term we handed out 79 kindness certificates to students who completed every challenge. I wonder if we will be able to beat that this term!? It is always so exciting hearing from the students how they have been practicing kindness.

Don’t forget, you are more than welcome to pop into the Chappy Room on a Wednesday after school drop off to have a coffee and chat. I also have second hand uniforms and a little op shop that you can find some real bargains. All proceeds go to chaplaincy here at Beaudesert State School

Thank you so much for your support. Please don’t hesitate to let me know if I can help you in any way.

Have a great week 😊 Chappy Jade

STEM Team News

Last term the STEM group went to Beaudesert State High to compete in the STEM robotics competition. We had to code the robots to move in a circle and avoid white lines. We worked with the high school students who helped us to complete the code. Each team had to compete against other robots and push them out of the circle. Two of our teams made it to the semi-finals. The day was memorable. Isabella

I liked working with the high schoolers. The robots were cool, we learned by trial and error to program them. The robots were fighting and I thought that was cool as well. Ryder

It was fun competing against the other schools with the robots. It was very competitive but we got through to the finals. Learning how to code the robots was entertaining and educational. The LITs – Larah, Indi, Tommy.

The competition was fun but my group had some issues with our robot and getting the code to work. We had to push through and work with the team. Jemma

The Arts

Prep

Our creative Prep students have been busy exploring the wonderful world of storybooks through dance, drama, and music. Using their bodies, voices, and instruments, they have skilfully crafted music and had a blast discovering different animal movements that match the characters and events in the stories we have read together. In the upcoming weeks, our talented young actors and dancers will explore their storytelling skills through drama and dance as they come up with their own stories.

Year 1- 3

This term, our young learners in Year 1-3 have embarked on a creative journey exploring the seasons through music, drama, and dance. During their lessons, the students have composed their own songs using various percussion instruments to capture the essence of spring, summer, autumn, or winter. In the upcoming weeks, our talented performers will take their skills to the stage by creating a drama and dance performance based on a poem about one of the seasons. The students will work collaboratively to bring the words to life through their expressive movements.
