October 2024, Term 4 Week 2

A Message from the Principal

Dear Plattsburg,

As we move into Term 4, it’s clear this will be a busy and exciting time for our students, staff, and families. With plenty of events, assessments, and activities planned, we encourage everyone to stay organised and engaged. A special reminder to our students to bring in any awards or certificates they have earned so we can recognise their positive behaviour and achievements. It’s important to celebrate all the wonderful things happening in our community!

We’ve been so proud to see our students consistently wearing their school uniform. Wearing the uniform not only helps build a sense of unity but also boosts school morale. It shows pride in our school, and we want to keep that momentum going throughout the term.

This year, we’ve seen great success with Explicit Teaching in our classrooms, helping students stay focused and achieve their learning goals. As we continue this method, we’ll be focusing on Maths Reviews this term. Please feel free to ask your children about what they’re learning—it’s a great way to stay involved in their education and support their progress.

We appreciate your continued support as we work together to finish the school year strong. Let’s make Term 4 a positive and productive time for all!

Regards,Mr Dave Hopson (Relieving Principal)

What's Happening

In The Classroom

Healthy Harold

On Thursday, October 17th, Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 took part in the Healthy Harold sessions which discussed friendships and safety. The students thoroughly enjoyed their time with Harold. Plattsburg Public School would like to extend our gratitude to Wallsend Rotary for their generous donation of $500 which helped subsidise the cost for students to participate.

Grandparents Day

Thank you to all our amazing Grandparents who turned up to share a classroom experience and morning tea with their granchildren. The day was a great success with a lot of smiles and cuddles.

Daniel Morcombe Day

Thank you to all the student and their families for supporting Daniel Morcombe Day. It is an important day for our students learn all about the imporatance about keeping safe.

Hats And Drink Bottles

As the warmer months approach, we kindly remind everyone to ensure that students bring hats and drink bottles to school each day. Wearing a hat helps protect against the sun’s harmful rays, and staying hydrated is essential for maintaining energy and focus throughout the day. Let’s work together to keep our students safe, comfortable, and ready to learn. Thank you for your cooperation!

Paid Temporary Jobs at Federal Election

he Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) has up to 100,000 paid temporary jobs available at the next federal election.

More than 9 in 10 previous temporary staff say they’d recommend the work to others – and that they’d do it again. Why not join them?

There is a range of different roles from entry-level to senior positions in metro, regional and remote areas. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t worked at an election before. You’ll get paid to train and on-the-job support.

Most jobs are on voting day, but some roles are for several weeks before or after, making it a great opportunity to earn extra money. You’ll also be contributing to your community and working as part of a team.

Many of the people who worked on the last major event, the referendum, enjoyed the experience:

‘It was an AMAZING team environment where I worked and a great vibe.’

‘An opportunity to connect with people in my community, some of whom I hadn't seen in decades.’

‘I was thrilled with my staff. Most had never worked in an election before however they were keen and happy to do any task asked of them.’

As the AEC’s role is to deliver the election with the highest levels of integrity and impartiality, you must be and be seen to be, politically neutral.

The AEC strives to have a workforce that reflects and supports the diverse community we serve. We encourage people from all backgrounds and locations to join our team, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disability and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Tell your friends and family about this work opportunity too.
