Hi all,
This term is zooming along! I can’t believe we’re half way through week four!
It was so lovely to see so many new and familiar faces at our Welcome BBQ last Friday night. We couldn’t have been luckier with the weather after such an up and down week for heat and rain etc. A huge thank you to FOS for organizing and setting up the event.
As the weather starts to consistently remain hot and dry it is important to remind ourselves of the process of relocating MMPS in the event a day is deemed an EXTREME FIRE RISK. As I mentioned last week, we receive different advice on what fire rating the school is considered under. This comes straight from the Department of Education (DET) and I am updated twice daily. MMPS will endeavour to update parents as soon as possible when a day is likely to be rated EXTREME and will confirm the day before via our Message Media system. You will be required to respond to this message confirming if your child will be attending school and relocating to Romsey PS or if they will be staying at home. It is important to remember that MMPS has its own Fire Rating that is separate to the CFA and Vic Emergency ratings. It may be the case that other local schools either close or relocate and MMPS remains open.
The beginning of the year sees our Grade 6 students busy with many new responsibilities. One of these is their Leadership roles for the year. We are very lucky to have such a tightknit group of Grade 6s this year and it has meant that as a Leadership Team they all have important roles and responsibilities. One of the lovely things about MMPS is that each and every Grade 6 student is given a leadership role that suits their strengths, interests and personal goals. I am pleased to announce the Grade 6 Leadership Roles for 2024:
School Captains: Lenny Monaghan and Ava Jex
Kulin House Captain: Andrew Welch
Mitchell House Captain: Sam Ransome
Buddy Leader: Cienna Hurren
Junior School Council President: Henry Gray
School Reporter: Eliana Glen
Well done Grade 6s on your appointments! I can’t wait to see the wonderful things you will bring to these positions.
MMPS is sending off its District Swimming Squad to Sunbury Aquatic Centre next Wednesday for the interschool swimming competition. We wish all of our swimmers and relay teams the best and hope that they enjoy the day in the pool competing against friends and peers from other local schools. At this stage the weather looks like it will cooperate and help make the day a wonderful one.
I have been lucky enough to receive feedback from a number of parents and students regarding School’sOUT! and the new OSHC program. So far, the feedback has been enormously positive and the numbers using OSHC have been growing consistently. As we are a relatively small school having a third-party provider for OSHC does require a certain number of users per week to be viable so if you have been considering utilizing the service now would be a great time to touch base and see how it could support your family. Here are two reports from Max and Matilda (Grade 4) who have had great experiences in OSHC this year:
‘In school’s out there’s so many fun activities! There are sports, baking, art etcetera. You get outside and have picnics and nice food. When you finish all the activities you have some free time inside.
Also there’s some nice people like Jack, Lachie, Olivia and more. Lachie loves sports and Olivia likes art. OSHC is amazing there’s so many lovely people and lots of fun activities. OSHC is great! I love it!’
From Max!
‘If you go to OSHC there are a lot of nice people you can meet like Nina, Lachie, Olivia, Sue and Jack.
I’ve met them and it is great meeting all of these kind people. They have FUN activities like backing, sports and art. Trust me it is fun and good food like fruit, wraps and lots of yummy food.
I like OSHC because it is good if you are an only child because then you can play at OSHC with your friends. It is a great place to play with friends after school. OSHC rules!’
From Matilda C.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to get in touch!
Many thanks, Joe.
