Principal's Message

School Captains 2024

This past week, we have undertaken the first step towards electing new school captains for 2024. This involves staff and students nominating the students in Year 5 that they feel would make excellent school leaders. From this process, it’s my privilege to share with you the 5 boys and 5 girls that received the most number of nominations and who will present speeches and stand for election this week. Congratulations to: Linda Alasmar, Ari Bartlett, Piper Beckitt, Violet Borg, Oliver Gardner, Eddie Hayes, Lily Priest, Kayne Smith-Velich, Eva Tsiaousis and Benji Woodford.

The speeches will take place in the hall at 9:15am this Tuesday 14 November. Family and friends are invited to join us for this. Congratulations to the students listed above who are standing for election. We wish them all the best for Tuesday.

Remembrance Day

Yesterday marked one of the most important days on the Australian calendar - Remembrance Day. On behalf of the Lambton PS community, I acknowledge the service men and women who have served our country in conflict and peace-keeping missions. Their sacrifice is significant, and it is always worth us pausing to acknowledge and remember them – Lest we Forget.

New Uniform Update

On Thursday of last week, I received a detailed update from our new uniform supplier The School Locker with respect to how production of our new uniform is going. The good news is some items are finished manufacture and are currently in transit back to Australia. This includes the shorts, long pants and pullover jumpers. Some are still in production and will take a little longer including the polo shirt, jacket and hat.

The really good news is that The School Locker believe that all items will be back in Australia and available for purchase from their Newcastle University store by Mid-December. This means that any families wishing to purchase the new uniform ready for the start of the 2024 school year will be able to do so – either n person or online. Families that have already placed pre-orders online via the website may start to receive items as they arrive later this month.

The School Locker have advised that their store at the university campus will be open up until 15 December and will re-open after the Christmas shutdown period on 8 January, 2024. Their opening hours are 8:30am-4:30pm Monday to Friday. As each item arrives, it will be available at their campus store. The campus store address is: The University of Newcastle, Shop 1/Floor 2 Shortland Union Building, 130 University Drive, Callaghan NSW 2308.

Students who have purchased new uniforms will be able to wear them from Day 1, 2024. There will also be a 12 month changeover/transition period, where students are able to wear either the new or old uniform, while this transition takes place. Not long to wait now.

Click here to access the School Locker online platform and view the range of items available to order.

Have a great week!

David Holland

Lambton Public School's annual Presentation Day Ceremony will be held on Tuesday 5 December 2023. This whole school event will be held in the Lambton High School Multi-Purpose Hall from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.

If your child is receiving an award you will receive an email by the end of  this week.  Emails will be sent from School Bytes, the program we use for permission notes and statements of account. Emails from School Bytes are sent from the following email address:  noreply@mail.schoolbytes.education.  The email will appear as Lambton Public School <noreply@mail.schoolbytes.education>.

Parents are encouraged to ensure emails from School Bytes are received to their Inbox and not sent to their junk email and/or the sender is not blocked.

All parents, carers and families are welcome to join us on the day to celebrate our students achievements irrespective of whether your child is receiving an award.

Visual Arts Competition

Following the completion of the upgrade to the Croudace Street pedestrian lights, TfNSW have invited our school to submit student artworks to them that could be used to create a wrap for the electrical box which operates the lights. This collage would be wrapped around the box and the students’ artworks on display permanently at the front of the school. With this in mind, we are running a visual arts competition, open to all students K-6. The theme is open-ended - ‘Lambton Public School’ OR ‘What Lambton Public School means to me’ and students are free to use their creativity in how they represent this theme.

Entries must be A4 size and in portrait orientation and students may use textas or pencils to create their artworks. They should be submitted at the office by 3pm on Wednesday 15 November. Artworks will be judge by Mr Holland, Mrs Cooper and Mrs McCann. The best artwork from each grade will be selected to contribute to a school collage that will create a visual and appealing wrap for the electrical box. Although teachers will discuss this artwork with students in class, this is a project that they can work on at home or in the library at lunch times.

All orders placed between last Thursday and tomorrow will be sent home on Tuesday. Orders can be placed via your School Bytes Parent Portal or alternatively payment and collection can be arranged at the office using cash or EFTPOS.

Year 6 Farewell slideshow

A popular part of the Year 6 Farewell enjoyed by the students is a slideshow presentation which includes students Kindergarten and Year 6 photos.

Parents and carers are reminded if their child was not enrolled at LPS in Kindergarten in 2016 to send their child’s Kindergarten photo for inclusion in the slideshow to be shown during the evening.

Photos can be emailed to Lambton-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au or students can bring them in to the office and staff will scan them for inclusion. Staff are busy putting the finishing touches on the presentation and ask that photos be forwarded no later than Friday 1 December please.

Student Achievement

Acacia March Dickinson participated as a member of the Hunter-Central Coast Debating team at the State Debating Championships in Sydney last week. The Hunter-Central Coast team performed well during the 3 day event coming equal lead in the group stage and making it to the semi-finals. The team were defeated after a tight debate but the students had a lot of fun and received great feedback over the 3 days. Well done Acacia!
