St Joseph's Catholic Primary School Wandal Newsletter

11 October 2023

Bernadette Brennan - Principal

On Monday, 23 October we are welcoming the 2024 Prep students and their families to the school for the Orientation Day. This day is an opportunity for the children to familiarise themselves with the Prep learning space, meet new friends and the teachers. The parent presentation takes a deeper look at school life, preparing for prep and parent engagement in schooling.

Also on this day, the Year Six students who are attending TCC for secondary schooling are visiting the college for the Transition Program. This is a half day small group workshop for the students to discuss some of their fears and concerns wit the teachers, look at the student planner, timetables and other elements of college life.

We have decided to take this day as an opportunity for all year levels to experience what the next step of schooling will be like. Each class will have a transition day on Monday, 23 October. While the current Preps are experiencing schooling in Year One, the Year One students will have the day in Year 2 and so on. This is an opportunity to become familiar with the learning space. Please note the current teachers may not be teaching those year levels in 2024.

Teachers, the Learning Support staff and Leadership team of the school, have commenced preparations for class grouping for 2024 school year. If you feel you have additional information that teachers may not be already aware of, please notify your class teachers at your earliest convenience.

Have a great week

Prayer Reflection

In this parable, Jesus reminds us that the earth and all life are a part of God’s creation. We are called to respect this gift. This parable also tells us that God trusts us. The owner rented out the vineyard, trusting that it would be looked after.  We, too, are called to care for creation. We are responsible for taking care of the world we live in and for sharing all the wonders and resources the earth gives us so that it will ‘produce fruit’ for many years to come. What are some small actions that you can do to care for our earth?

What is happening in Religious Education in Prep!

This term, Prep will investigate and Explain ways all people are called to care for the earth and each other.

Check out some of their ideas on caring for the earth.

October is World Mission Month

October is World Mission Month, where we are called by Pope Francis to celebrate global mission with our “Hearts on Fire, Feet on the Move”.

Catholic Mission is Pope Francis’ official agency for global mission, and each year, we are invited to be a part of this call to action.  This year we are raising awareness and funds for projects in Timor-Leste.

Have you ordered your subway lunch through Flexi-schools to help us raise funds for Catholic Mission to assist in Timor-Leste?

Year 2 Prayer Assembly

Please join us in the Hall on Friday as Year 2 leads prayer celebrating October as Mission month. Year Two will highlight the great work that Catholic Mission is currently undertaking in Timor-Leste.
