From the Principal

Diwali Festival

This week, a number of families within our school celebrated the Diwali Festival. This festival of light is an important festival within Hinduism. I hope that it was an enjoyable time for the families who celebrated Diwali.

Welcome Back

I would like to welcome everyone back for Term 4. The term will be a busy one, especially for our Year 6 students as they complete their time at Winston Hills Public School and prepare for the move to high school.

Over the next two weeks, I have had to take some unexpected leave. During this time, Mrs Coates will be relieving Principal and Mrs Frame will be relieving Deputy Principal.

Reading Parent Information Night

A parent information night on reading will be held on Wednesday 29 October, commencing at 6:30pm in the Hall. The session will run for approximately one hour (please note date change from the Term 4 Calendar).

The evening will provide parents with an understanding of reading instructions taught at WHPS, aligned with the NSW English Syllabus and current evidence-based practices that support student learning.

If you would like to attend, please complete the online form that was sent of Schoolbytes.

ACTIVATE Program

This term, the school will be trialling a mentor program that supports social and emotional development of students. ACTIVATE program is designed to help students build confidence, regulate their emotions and strengthen relationships with others. In the coming days, a number of students will be selected to take part in this program.

Winston Hills Public School Sporting Stars

During the last week of Term 4, we had our largest number of students represent Castle Hill Zone at the Sydney West Area Athletics Championship. After a very successful day, we have a number of students who have progressed to the State Championships, which will be held this week. We would like to wish all of the best of luck to: Theo Foggo, Nadia Gasparini, Sam McInerney, Miles Hamilton-Foster, Nate Appleyard, Tayem Reading, Lucas Baird, Hugo Seitz, Max Arkins and Charlotte Arkins.

A big thank you to Mr Freney, Mrs Lorenz and Ms Johnston for their organisation.

Classes for 2026

The school is about to start the planning process for next year. An important part of the process is determining the numbers that we have in each grade. If you are intending on leaving the school at the end of this year (except Year 6 students), please contact the school so that we can adjust our numbers.

If you are taking an extended holiday at the start of the year, please send an email to the school so that your child can be included in the class formation process.

Kind Donation

I would like to thank the Karabi Seniors Knitting Group for their kind donation of Poppies for our Remembrance Day commemoration. The group has spent many hours knitting these poppies to share with the school and to remember the sacrifice made by those who have served.

From the Deputies

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)

Our focus for week 1 and 2 is- We are safe, respectful, and responsible. We use appropriate strategies to resolve challenges.

Birthday and Special Occasion Treats

For the health and safety of all our students, we kindly ask that parents and carers refrain from sending food to school to share with other children. This helps us manage allergies and dietary restrictions more effectively and ensures a safe environment for everyone. If your child would like to celebrate their birthday at school, they are welcome to bring non-edible items such as bubbles, pencils, or stickers to share with their peers. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in supporting our efforts to maintain a healthy and inclusive school community.

Contacting the School: Your First Point of Contact

We encourage parents and carers to communicate openly with the school to support their child's learning and wellbeing. The first and best point of contact is your child’s classroom teacher, who will be able to assist with most questions or concerns regarding your child's progress. If further assistance is needed, the teacher can help direct you to the appropriate staff member. Please feel free to reach out via email or phone to the school office to contact the classroom teacher. Working together ensures the best outcomes for our students.

Life Education

Life Education will be visiting our school from Tuesday 28th October until Monday 10th November. During this period, students will participate in engaging programs focused on health, safety, and wellbeing, delivered by trained Life Education educators. These sessions are a valuable opportunity for children to learn about making safe and healthy choices in a fun and interactive environment. Information about the programs will be emailed to parents/carers in week 3. We look forward to an enjoyable and informative experience for all our students.

Selective High School and Opportunity Class Placement 2027

Applications will be open each year from November to February (the following year) for both selective high school and opportunity class placement. Parents and carers apply online using the Selective high school and opportunity class placement application website.

Applications for selective high school and opportunity class entry in 2027 will be open from 6 November 2025 to 20 February 2026. There will be no late applications due to the long application period, and the application closing date being closer to the test dates and logistical constraints around organising test centres and devices.

From the Chaplain

Welcome back to Term 4!

Whether your break was full of adventure or quiet moments, I hope you had a chance to rest, reset, and recharge. A new term brings with it fresh opportunities, not just in the classroom, but also in how we take care of ourselves and support one another as a school community.

This term, I’ll be continuing with our Social Skills Groups and Growth Mindset Resilience Groups. Our lunchtime playgroup, Rockets, will also be up and running, creating a safe and fun space for children to build friendships and connect. In addition to these programs, I’ll be meeting with some students individually, helping equip them with different tools and strategies to navigate challenges and build confidence.

As we settle into the first couple of weeks, let’s continue our focus on kindness. A small act such as a smile, a friendly word, or an invitation to join in, can have a powerful impact on someone’s day. Encouraging our children to be inclusive and compassionate helps foster a sense of belonging for everyone.

My door is always open. If you or your child would like someone to talk to, need emotional, mental, or spiritual support, or simply a quiet space to reflect, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I am available for conversations on Monday and Tuesday mornings, and always happy to connect.

Wishing you a positive, meaningful, and grounded start to the term.

Warmest regards,

Dawn Tan

School Chaplain
