Thank you for your understanding...

From the Principal's Desk...

(from the P&C AGM...) | Before I commence my role as the Returning Officer this evening, I would like to acknowledge and thank the entire P&C Executive for the ongoing support of every single student and our wonderful little school throughout 2023. Education is at the forefront of our school and is our core business. Every goal we set, every decision we make, every program we undertake, every initiative we introduce and develop, is with every single student at the heart. We wholeheartedly value the P&C, whose role is to work in partnership with the school, to support our core business and that is ensuring that every student is able to access a quality education. This is primarily done through fundraising, with funds being allocated to support resourcing our classrooms, goals, programs and initiatives. Tonight we farewell 3 of our Exec team - our President, Lauren LaChapelle; our Treasurer, Paul Galpin and our Secretary, Renate Harris. It has been such a pleasure working shoulder-to-shoulder with you; working together towards and/or achieving our goals and projects, over the past few years. Thank you so much to each and every one of you for all your hard work, passion and determination in supporting each and every one of our students and school. It ‘takes a village to raise a child’ and we have been lucky enough to have you as active members of our village. Thanks again for your dedication to your role.

SOME OF OUR STORIES ARE SAVED AS HIGHLIGHTS...

SPOTLIGHT ON...

5/4 CAPREOLINAE!!!

5/4C has been absolutely smashing it this term! After our excellent excursion to the zoo where we specifically spent as much time with the capybaras and red pandas as possible, we've spent the rest of our time preparing for NAPLAN. Our typing skills are on point and our brains are fired up and ready to go! We've written lots of narratives as practise, and we thought we'd give a little preview of some of our writing skills here.

Mess Everywhere - Tristan Taylor

Some time ago, in a quite stinky house, there lived a little girl named Amaya, who loved making everything messy. It made her very very happy. However, her parents do not like her mess at all. “Amaya, clean up your room at once!” demanded her mother.

Now not only was she a messy child, but also a very stubborn child. “No! I will not clean my room! My mess is mine!” she shouted loudly. Her parents were not very happy with this response, so a little while later when Amaya went to the park, playing with her friends, Mother snuck into Amaya’s room and went to tidy everything up.

“What a disgusting habit!” she said to herself, meanwhile
Amaya saw her mom through the window of her house. She was very very VERY unhappy, so she bolted to her house and zoomed up the stairs. As she came in, she saw her mother getting eaten by a rubbish monster! “HELP! SOMEBODY HELP!” she shouted, muffled by the garbage bag.

So Amaya got some scissors from her pencil case and cut the bag.“Hooray! I’m free!” her mother exclaimed as she dusted herself off. Amaya knew her mess caused all this, so she stopped throwing all her empty plastic bags across the floor and keeping her dirty clothes in her room.

From that moment on, Amaya kept things as clean as possible.

The End

The Mess - Ivy Watt

Our story begins decades ago in the magical land of Pandora, Bessie was getting dressed for her magical coronation where all the avatars would celebrate her newly wedded life. Bessie was hoping that nothing would go wrong because after all she was very clumsy. Just as she was thinking about her fiance, he walked in. His name was Steve and he and Bessie were deeply in love. “Why do you love me?” Bessie asked when he walked in. “How could I not? Your beautiful brown hair, blue eyes, brown skin and your tail with light blue stripes and a tip of brown hair is beautiful” he answered.

“Why do you love me?” Steve asked “Because you look like me.” Bessie joked. “Another amazing reason to love you. Your amazing jokes.” With that they were walking down the stairs of their home tree to where all the avatars were. “YIP! YIP!” They cheered for the couple. “SILENCE!!” The king shouted, “I FORBID MY DAUGHTER TO MARRY HIM!!”

“ROBERT!!!” The queen Catherine said. “Our daughter is in love! If you can’t see that then you are blind.” “NEVER CALL ME BLIND!” While Cathy and Rob were fighting about the marriage Steve and Bessie got married. It was a beautiful marriage. Whilst they were upstairs Bessie was getting dressed when she accidentally knocked over a bottle of ink all on to her white wedding dress! “WHY!?” Bessie screamed frustrated.

Steve came running into the room. “What is wrong with my newly wedded wife?” “My tail knocked over this ink and now my wedding dress is ruined!” Bessie ran out of the room and called her Bragon  (Bird and Dinosaur). “Lemia!” Through the trees Lemia soared perfectly, finally landing on the branch which Bessie was on. Bessie hopped on to Lemia’s back and together they flew over rivers and across trees. In the middle of the night she felt calmer so she went back to her room and saw Steve asleep at the door with a torn up piece of his old wife and smashed flowers on the floor. ‘At least I'm not the only messy one.’ She thought and with that she went to sleep dreaming about the happy life that her and her husband would have. THE END

What a mess - Elliot Jones

“Timmy! Clean your room up this instant!” said Timmy's mum. “Hmm I don’t want to clean my room. Hey I know I’ll find a way to do it while moms out!” realized Tim. A few hours later Tim's mum went to get groceries. “Now is my chance,” said Tim. “But how will I fix my problem? I know I’ll order a bomb to blow up my room!” So after ordering one Tim waited and waited and waited. After a while Tim got bored and decided to use some from the basement.

Now you might be wondering why Tim has dynamite in his basement but sometimes it's just better not to ask too many questions. After strapping some to the walls, Tim found a good comfy position outside to admire the fireworks ``Time to press the button," said Tim. kappow! After hearing a sound like the big bang Tim went to go  check the rubble. “yes I shall never have to clean my room again!” shouted Tim. Tim looked behind him, his mum was staring at all the wreckage. “Uh oh” said Tim. “I guess you're sleeping on  the roof tonight then” said his mum. And yes he has a very tolerant mum. “Special delivery for Timmybob Jonathen Jimmothy” yelled a delivery guy. “Whoops” yelled as the bomb rolled out of his hand and inside towards the fireplace.

BOOM!

And they all didn’t live happily ever after.

P&C...

Outgoing thank you to our 2023 P&C Executive Team

Sadly, in 2024, we say goodbye to three members of the P&C Executive, who have been instrumental in driving fundraising and resources for Balmain Public School over the last four years.

As a new parent in 2022, Lauren LaChapelle (Ava, Year 3) courageously stepped up into the role of P&C President and has led the team for the last two years. Lauren, along with the 2022 P&C team, ran two major events in the one year, plus countless BBQs in 2023 raising close to $150,000 – with Lauren herself going door-to-door across Balmain businesses to drum up sponsorship all in aid of the children of Balmain Public School. Lauren is selfless, passionate and a force to be reckoned with and is truly irreplaceable as leader of the P&C.

Renate Harris (Lachlan and Jack, Years 6 & 4) also joined in 2022 as Secretary, also spearheading the mammoth 2022 Art Show & Trivia effort. While organising these epic events, both Lauren and Renate were key in the funding and execution of Ms Pauline’s Garden, creating a truly special and magical place for both current and future students of the school. As Secretary, Renate tirelessly put together and successfully won the 2022 Inner West Council Environmental Grant, which was the key source of funding for the completion of the garden. Renate’s efficiency, drive, organisation and endless work behind the scenes to keep us on track will be greatly missed.

Paul Galpin (Jasper & Sammy, Years 4 & 2), our longest serving P&C member, joining the committee as a newbie in 2019, then taking on the essential (and sometimes thankless) role of Treasurer, has worked hard to keep our finances in great shape and strengthening the P&C’s financial management principles. Paul has led the majority of school BBQ’s in the last few years and single handedly taken on a number of events and projects, including the 2023 Halloween Disco and with his self-professed greatest P&C achievement, being renovating the toilet blocks.

The school has been honoured to have such dedicated parents who have selflessly given hours of their personal time and personal resources. They leave a huge void, however, we are fortunate that a number of wonderful (many new) parents are filling these roles in 2024.

Thank you Lauren, Renate and Paul, on behalf of Balmain Public School, the 2019-2022 P&C Executive, Parents (both current & Future) and children of the school.
