What a fantastic Book Week we’ve had! The school was alive with colourful costumes, and it was heart-warming to see so many students and staff getting into the spirit of reading and storytelling. Our parade was full of smiles, creativity, and plenty of book characters leaping off the page and into our classrooms. Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a memorable week. A highlight for me was seeing all of the younger siblings – and even some parents dress up and join the parade. Thanks for all of your efforts towards and support of this wonderful event. Thanks also to Sue, our Library Manager and her merry band of helpers for their work leading up to the day.  Well done to our raffle and competition winners.

We’re already busy behind the scenes planning for a jam-packed Term 4! There are lots of exciting events on the horizon, so please keep an eye on the calendar and newsletters for updates including graduation and our annual concert. We are looking forward to celebrating together in Term 4.

Juliette Barry is taking some well-earned time off until the end of Term 4 as she recovers from an injury. We all wish her a smooth and speedy recovery. In the meantime, our wonderful staff are working together to ensure everything keeps running smoothly for our students and our Performing Arts program continues. 

Due to Ms Barry being away, we are needing to make a few changes to our choir arrangements. Amy Farquharson and I will be lending a hand to support our talented choir students this term. We’re looking forward to seeing—and hearing—all the wonderful music our choir will make, culminating in the big performance on Wednesday September 16, 2026, at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

Congratulations to Scott Barabas and his wife Kara, who have welcomed baby Isaac to their family.  We wish them well on their new adventures.  Scott will be back in P12 at the start of Term 4.

A group of Year 5 students (Ananya, Paige, Kit and Agam) recently attended the Student Wellbeing Engagement Collection Conference at Charles Campbell College. They teamed up to talk about what wellbeing really means, took a closer look at our school's wellbeing data, and pinpointed areas where we're doing well and where we can do even better. Since coming back, they've jumped straight into planning ways to improve student wellbeing here at Dernancourt. We're proud of their enthusiasm and can't wait to see the positive changes they bring to our school.

2026 STEM Aboriginal Learner Congress

Some of our Aboriginal students (Jett, Maci and Ondre) recently had the wonderful opportunity to attend the 2026 STEM Aboriginal Learner Congress at Adelaide Oval. They were inspired by Aboriginal speakers, took part in engaging activities such as using robots, soap making, and exploring virtual reality, and discovered how STEM is connected to Country. Our students returned from this experience feeling inspired and confident, with a renewed belief that they can achieve anything they set their minds to.

P7 and P8 First Fleet Exhibition

Hi everyone,

In History this term, P7 Year 3/4 and P8 Year4 have been exploring the First Fleet. Throughout the unit, students confidently delivered engaging oral presentations and, as part of a homework project completed with their parents, created impressive dioramas that showcased their learning and understanding of this important period in Australian history.

We are incredibly proud of our students' hard work, creativity, and enthusiasm throughout the unit.

Well done to all of our students who participated in our school SAPSASA athletics 2026 team. All of our students performed admirably in their respective events, while some unfortunately missed the day due to sickness.

We had several students receive a ribbon for finishing in the top 3 in their event including:

A big congratulations also goes to Ananya Saravanan and Toby Ansell for being selected to represent the Adelaide North East Team at District Athletics.

Ziyi, Toby and Ananya participated in the Adelaide North East Athletics day yesterday. Congratulations to all three for qualifying, enabling them to represent the Adelaide North East district.

Dernancourt School OSHC uses the Primary Playground between 3:15pm and 4:00pm, and the Early Years Playground between 4:00pm and 5:00pm. To assist with our duty of care commitments and supervision requirements, we would appreciate if families could please use the alternative playground during those periods. Thank you for helping to keep our students safe.
