Hello everybody,
What a wet week it has been! November has been a month of contrasting weather, unfortunately this has resulted in the cancelling of our FOS Bike Ride planned for next Sunday, the 3rd of December. We will work hard to see if it is possible to reschedule to next year as it is a great afternoon of riding and fun.
Last week the Grade 3s went on camp to Boomerang Ranch. It was a great camp to try a bunch of new experiences; be it riding a horse, sleeping away from home, packing their own bags, the list of new things goes on and on! I was lucky enough to spend Wednesday with the campers and got to ride a horse for the very first time. It gave me a great sense of the resilience and bravery on display by all grade 3 students. A huge thank you to Geni and Jess for organising this amazing camp and to Dannille Royal for volunteering to go along on camp in her role as pre-service teacher. What a great experience for all!
Monday’s Pupil Free Day allowed staff to complete the Program of Inquiry for 2024. This document forms the basis for our PYP program for next year. It was great to collaboratively plan units across all year levels. It is a lot of work but one of the things that really brings all staff together to help make MMPS a school where students are engaged and committed to lifelong learning.
It has been wonderful to see the grade 6 students get stuck into their Exhibition Unit of Inquiry over the past few weeks. The Exhibition is the culmination of 7 years’ worth of PYP learning and gives students the chance to document their learning journey across their primary years. The grade 6s are exploring the process of design and invention and have looked at issues such as access to prosthetics, anxiety around the busy nature of modern life, safer backpacks that reduce spinal stress and streamlining charging all of our electrical devices. These topics have given rise to some really clever inventions and the grade 6s are excited to share this with the school community on Thursday the 14th of December.
November and December see our Transition program get into full swing! Each Tuesday sees our 2024 Foundation class spend some time here at MMPS, getting to know each other and make connections to our 2024 grade 5 and 6 students in preparation for Buddies next year. We also have a program starting next week that looks to support next years grade 5/6 girls to develop emotional well-being, foster strong friendships and build resilience. Currently the Grade 5s are looking at developing designs for their grade 6 jackets as well as looking at what leadership roles their might like to go for next year. MMPS offers great opportunities for our senior students to take on responsibilities and roles in a safe and secure environment and build confidence and skills that make their transition to secondary school stronger and more positive. It is such an exciting time of year for all students here at MMPS.
Thanks,
Joe.
