Principal’s Report

Be Cyber Safe

Social media continues to be a huge concern for our school with students telling staff they are on TikTok in school uniform and regularly communicate via Kids Messenger, sometimes in a very disrespectful manner. As parents, one of the most effective ways to keep children safe is by keeping them off social media and communication platforms until they are age appropriate to access social media platforms and group chats. Children are often unaware of the dangers of releasing personal information via group chats with wider friendship circles. This can include their school, school uniform, personal address, current location, year level and even their teacher’s name. Students can also access chats via Roblox and other gaming platforms to release this information. It is not unusual for students to create fake email addresses to sign up to these platforms without their parents’ knowledge too. Our school team are asking parents to set firm boundaries around social media and communication platforms at home. We continue to be very concerned around how students are communicating online outside of school hours. We want our staff time to be focused on teaching and learning in the classroom, not navigating disrespectful online communications that are brought into our school from home. Please double check what online platforms your child is accessing.

Before and After School

Children that arrive before the bell at 8:35am are reminded to place their bag at their classrooms and walk to the undercover area where staff supervision begins at 8:15. Children then have the option of playing on the oval with a hat or playing quietly in the undercover area until the morning bell. Brekky Club is open for students on each day to access which is supported by volunteers and staff.

If you would like to meet with your child’s teacher before school, please contact them directly to arrange a time. Thank you for respecting that they are very busy getting the day organised before school and can not always stop what they are doing to speak to you.

Term 4 Calendar

The Term 4 calendar has many important dates in the lead up to the end of year celebrations. We will release this in the last week of Term 3 via our Audiri app.

Swimming

Term 4 swimming is scheduled for Prep and Year 2; however, we continue to work with the Beaudesert pool to confirm dates for our swimming lessons and Year 3-6 swimming carnival. If for any reason we are unable to schedule Prep and Year 2 swimming, we will make this up in 2026.

Kingfisher Cup 2025

On Thursday 11th and Friday 12th September, selected students will be representing our school in the local NRL and Netball Kingfisher Cup.  Mr Ed Brimelow will be leading the NRL team with the assistance of Ms Mel Ainsworth and Mrs Nat Ford will be leading the Netball team with the assistance of Mrs Kim Foster. In order to participate, students must meet attendance and behaviour criteria that was communicated at the beginning of the year. These expectations include the lead up to the carnival and on the days.  This activity is additional to our usual HPE program and is designed as a reward for positive behaviour and commitment to school attendance.

2026 Classes

Soon we will begin staff planning for 2026 classes. Our staff have a great deal of knowledge of all of our students and spend a great deal of time placing students with the right teacher, balancing academic and social needs, as well as considering any requirements for students with disabilities and other diverse learning needs. Composite classes that may be formed are not streamed and will have a diverse mix of all learners. Our teachers are trained to teach across all year levels including composite classes. I have a great deal of confidence in all of my teachers and know that all parents and students should be extremely comfortable knowing we have such a dedicated and capable group of teachers at our school. I ask that you trust that we are able to make these decisions and that your students will be well catered for at our school.

I am happy to receive requests for placement of children relating to social or family needs (i.e. not being in the same class as family members or strong friendships that can actually hamper learning) but will not be considering any requests by parents for a certain teacher. Please note, that while we will seriously consider your requests in this area, we may not be able to honour everyone’s wishes. Please submit these requests directly to me in writing to the front office or via email at achan224@eq.edu.au no later than Friday 24th October. Requests after this date will not influence decision making.

A Sweet Goodbye & a Warm Welcome

Finally, as we close this term, we wish Mrs Kimberley Young all the best as she takes maternity leave. In Term 4 we also welcome back Ms Sam Stepanoff from maternity leave. Sam will be working in 3B alongside Mrs Megan Heit on a Wednesday and internal relief for the remainder of her week.

Classroom Reports

Prep

It has been a very busy Term 3 and we still have plenty to look forward to! We started off celebrating NAIDOC week and taking part in an Indigenous games day; we celebrated 100 days of Prep where all the students dressed up like they were 100 years old and had a wonderful morning taking part in activities, games and play; we celebrated Book Week dressing up as our favourite book characters and played NRL tag.

This term we are focusing on Non-Fiction texts to learn facts about animals. In English, we are learning to label animals and write simple factual sentences about them. In Science we are learning all about what living things need. We were very excited to have Wild Rangers visit us and bring in some animals for us learn about too. We even got to touch and hold some of them.

In Maths, we are learning about positional language, long and short activities and when events take place throughout the day. In HASS we are learning all about special places and how to take care of them. We have started to embark on our reading journey, borrowing decodable texts which are coming home on a Monday in our homework folders. Please remember to bring these back to the classroom each Friday so we can swap them for a new one.

We had a lots of fun at our first Junior sports day/colour fun run. Keep an eye out on AUDIRI for lots of pictures from the day.

Have a look at the photos of our Preps to see what we’ve been up to!

Year 1

This has been a very busy term with many exciting events!

In English, the students have been learning how to write information reports and will be using this knowledge to create their very own information report on an animal. They have been learning to incorporate headings and facts as well as diagrams into their work. In Maths, students have been learning how to skip count in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. Science investigations, this term, are looking at habitats and how different habitats meet the needs of living things.

Year 1 students enjoyed running around and chasing the ball at the NRL gala and are looking forward to Junior Sports Day!

Year 1 students also had a very exciting visit from Wild Rangers. The students enjoyed learning about some of Australia’s native animals and their habitats, as well as sharing some of their own knowledge about how these habitats support the needs of animals. Finally, the students were very excited to pat or hold the animals under the supervision of the Wild Rangers expert. Please enjoy some of the photos below.

Year 1 - Term 3 Adventures

Year 2

Did you know a salt-water crocodile has the strongest “bite” in the world?  Or that possums are nocturnal marsupials?  What about pythons, that they constrict their prey before eating?  These are some of the amazing facts the Year 2s have been discovering while writing information texts for English.  Students have been using extended noun groups, verb groups and other language features to enhance their text structure.  In Science, students have enjoyed learning about many different animal and plant lifecycles, as well as adaptations, in order for these living things to survive.  It was great welcoming the Wild Rangers which helped us link English and Science together.  It was hard to pick a favourite animal – students met creatures such as Cranky the Crocodile, Marge the Python, and Pineapple the Bearded Dragon! For Mathematics this term, students have been learning to represent multiplication as “groups-of” and “arrays”, and also telling the time as quarter-past and quarter-to on both digital and analogue clocks. HASS has been exciting as this semester students are learning about technology from the past and in the present.  The excursion to the Ipswich Railway Museum gave our students an insight into how train transport has changed over time.  Enjoy the  photographs, which also include the NRL morning and Book Week Parade!

THE YEAR TWO TEAM 😊

Year 3

Wow! Term 3 already.  We have been very busy so far and can’t believe we are already nearly half way through Semester 2.

English: In English, the students have been learning how to write Information Texts where they are to choose one of Australia’s Neighbours to write about. English has tied in with our HASS unit where we have been learning about Australia’s Neighbours and the similarities and differences between them and Australia. The countries we are learning about for English are Vanuatu, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia.

Mathematics: In Mathematics, the students have been learning about Time, Angles and Money. The students have been developing a strong understanding of these fundamental concepts through a range of engaging activities and hands-on experiences.

Science: In Science, we have been learning about Matter. The students have learnt about the three states of Matter; solids, liquids and gas.   We have been learning through hands-on experiences, where they have been making predictions, observing and suggesting reasons for findings using their scientific knowledge.

Overall, we have had a fantastic start to semester 2, and we are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication our Year 3 students have shown thus far.

Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in your child’s education. Your encouragement and engagement play a crucial role in their success.

Warm regards,

The Year 3 Teachers

Year 4

Woo hoo spring has finally sprung (thank goodness, we are all saying!)!

A highlight of the term has been Book Week – with this year’s theme being Book an Adventure.  We all had such a fantastic time celebrating; students have enjoyed exploring stories, taking part in fun activities and showing off their creative costumes in the Book Week Parade. It was truly wonderful to see so much excitement across our school community, with everyone celebrating the joy of books and reading!

Yet another highlight from waaaaaayyyy back on week 1 of this term was our NAIDOC week including the special assembly with outstanding performances by our JJ club and the Indigenous Games sessions held out of on the oval on the Tuesday at middle session.  Most memorable though was seeing so many proud year 4 indigenous students receiving awards for their academic achievements and/or all-round attendance and effort in the school community!

We have been had a terrific time learning about and experimenting with the art of Quentin Blake, Vincent Van Gogh & Pablo Picasso – the hardest ‘work’ has been in deciding which piece of our awesome art to put up on the Art Gallery display!  There are so many imaginative, unique and just plain spectacular pieces to choose from!

·         Make sure you come along: Arts Showcase - Tuesday, 16th September 2025, 3:10-4:10pm in the Arts Room.

Year 4 students have expanded their laptop knowledge throughout the term, exploring and implementing how to use PowerPoint during English and HASS lessons, building their skills in creating slides, adding images and bringing their ideas to life on the big screen.  It’s been exciting to see their creativity shine as they combine technology with their learning. Students have been exploring how we can care for our environment and protect our landscapes. Our focus has been on discovering the importance of looking after our planet and making small changes that can ultimately have a big impact.

In Maths the year 4s have become quite fixated with money – mostly with ‘spending’ their bags of ‘money’ that is…

we have been learning how to count and give change in real-life situations. Students have enjoyed problem solving, playing money games and building confidence with skills that they will use every day. As you can imagine this has challenged some of us more than others, and we will continue to work on this important life skill.

We have been in stitches reading all about the shenanigans of the revolting (but HILARIOUS) Mr & Mrs Twit in readiness for our term 4 English – it’s going to be great fun writing our own joke/chapter about these two terrible monstrous beasts!!

The holidays are just around the corner, please stay safe during this time and of course enjoy this beautiful weather, what a lovely time of year!

The Year 4 team 😊

Year 5

Another term goes buzzing by for our year 5 students, jam packed with fun learning and activities. They have lived and experienced all things Gold Rush and enjoyed an excursion as well.

In English, we have used our knowledge from HASS and the Gold Rush to write Information Reports. In 4/5C the students caught the plague and researched all things pandemic to write their information report.

We have read a great book about the Eureka Stockade and some of us even made dioramas!!

In Maths, we have worked hard to understand fractions, percentages and decimals as well as 3D shapes, transformations and coordinates. There has also been time table and number fact practise to keep us in tune for next term.

In Science, we have investigated how light travels and created mazes with mirrors to test reflections. The students enjoyed creating shadows and experimenting all things to do with light, transparency and how we see things.

Overall, this has been a focused term with a lot of learning. We are very much looking forward to our opportunities to become leaders in 2026 and the conversations are buzzing around leadership nominations and speeches, which will be starting next term.

We hope the students enjoy a well-earned break for the holidays and come back ready to power through the last part of Year 5.

From the Year 5 teachers😊

Gold Rush Excursion

 What the Students thought....

My favourite part was the panning as we would all grab a pan and gently swish in a circular motion getting rocks and sand stuck in the riffles looking for gold. ‘EUREKA!’ we would cry if we found gold. – Lillian

On the excursion I got to pan for gold, and I found one piece and got to keep it. In the general store, I got to sell things to Harry and when we swapped roles, I bought things from him like dried beans, a pickaxe, and other things. We got to try and find gold on a field and sell it. – Kane

At the gold rush we went panning and we were also able to use a cradle, but I chose panning. We made damper and got to eat it. The damper was so yum! – Ruth

I liked when one of the ladies stole food and I had fun doing the games. – Audrey

It was exhausting conditions. I had found nothing but rock for what seemed like 10 years until… I shifted spots. “Eureka” I screamed. It was the first of what would be 5 gold nuggets. It was the most fun I have had in a while. By the end, I was tired and sore, but I had struck it rich. – Riley

At the gold rush, my favourite thing to do was gold panning. I found 3 nuggets of gold, but I had to put 2 back. I kept my biggest one. It was very fun looking for gold. When I was looking through the pan, I saw a big shiny piece of gold but when I was about to show my friends, I lost it. I was devastated, but I didn’t give up. I got one more piece before time was up. – Harry

When we were going up the hill on our excursion, I saw 3 graves – 2 sons and 1 mother that had died. The story of how they died was that the butcher was putting the gross animal bits into the water contaminating it, so when the mother got the water and gave it to her sons and herself not knowing it was poisoned, they died. The butcher got shut down from that. Even though the graves were fake, I believe that something like that would happen in the 1850’s. Even though I was dressed as a house maid, I had my name up as a store clerk. My favourite thing was when we had damper. It wasn’t like the one we had at camp, but it was nice. – Willow

Only 6 people got to make damper, and I was one of them. We had to move it around and stretch it. I don’t think the person liked me or Jorja because when she put flour on everyone, she put heaps on us! She even rubbed it in my ear! I think Jorja got more though. We all played this game at the end where you had to find gold and sell it. I found the biggest one and only got 2 pounds! Someone from the other school got 5 pounds for finding one that was the size of a golf ball! If only every school day was like that! – Sam

It was fun finding gold and being a shop keeper and customer. It was funny when a lady came and stole Parker’s bag. I was happy to get my miners licence. – Felicity

When we got up the steep hill, we sat at an old place. We saw a woman with a gun yell, “put your hands up!” and she took two people’s bags and stole their food from their lunchbox. She ate sum of it. It was really funny to watch. – Laylani

My favourite thing at the gold rush excursion was gold panning for gold. I found my gold at the last second! It was so much fun. It was funny when Mrs Christine stole two kids bags and started to eat their food then acted all innocent to the trooper. – Alessa

I enjoyed eating damper at the gold rush excursion. The most fun thing for me was finding the gold on the goldfields and trading it in for money. I’m also so glad that I found gold when we got to pan. My favourite activity was being a customer at the general store. My least favourite activity was trying to find letters for Joe Brynn in the mapping activity. I also enjoyed exploring the town at the start of the excursion. – Michael

5A - Term 3

5B - Term 3

5/6D

Year 6

We’ve had a busy and exciting term 3! With only a couple of weeks to go, we’ll fill you in on some of the amazing things we’ve been getting up to. In English, the students have been working busily to create an informative text. In maths, we’ve been learning about using all four operations with decimal numbers, conversions of measurement units and fractions (yes more fraction work!). In HASS, we’ve been mapping absolute locations and comparing data on why people choose to migrate to Australia, particularly focusing on social, cultural and environmental factors. In Science, we’ve been observing earthquakes and volcanoes, students are working hard building their researching skills to create a poster focused on a natural disaster. Finally, we had an amazing adventure in week 4! The kids spent five days engaging in a range of awesome activities designed to build team and problem-solving skills. They also engaged in a variety of challenging activities designed to bring out their inner warrior. Whether it be rock climbing, tobogganing, body boarding or bush walking, there was something for everyone and we certainly saw many step out of their comfort zone.

From your Year 6 Teachers,

A Brief Overview of camp

During week four, we, the year sixers, were sent on a journey to stay a week at Tallebudgera Creek for five days. Of course, we complied and did exactly so. It was discovered that we were here to find our Hero type and open a chest that contained treasure. The hero types included Mastermind, Warrior, Champion, and Guardian. During this journey, called the Hero’s Journey, we encountered many struggles but also many accomplishments. The grade was split into three different groups, each with different names. There was the Gowanda’s, Bowai’s, and the Chungura’s. After peaceful sleeps, we would walk along the beach, absorbing the picturesque view of the sunrise. We ate bacon and eggs each morning before heading off for our activities. Each group did the exact same activities but at different times. The activities were a key to define our hero type, we all participated in them. Mastermind was an activity based on how you think, while the others were more physical. After all the tiresome work, we ate dinner in the dining hall, catching up with our friends, and getting ready for cabin inspection. The last day of the week was celebration day, where we opened our chest and discovered our treasure. We packed up our cabins, went for a last swim, and set off again to return home. Even though it had been scary for some, and a new situation for most, we’re all extremely grateful for the experience and the memories and we wish for the future grade sixers to have even more fun! - Jorden

The Arts

Performing Arts in Term 3

Hi everyone! My name is Cielle Becerra, I have stepped into The Arts teacher role while Miss Huttunen is away. It’s been such a pleasure getting to know your children over the past few weeks. We have been busy exploring all kinds of creative activities from singing and dancing to playing musical instruments and acting out our stories in drama.  I am really looking forward to all the fun and learning still to come!

Sports Update

Term 3 has been an action-packed adventure of athleticism, determination, and school spirit for our Beaudesert State School students!

We kicked things off with a bang as many of our talented athletes took to the track and field at the Beaudesert District Athletics Trials in Jimboomba. A huge congratulations to Jaxon, Kayla, Claudia, Bayley, Taylor, Evie, Madison, Pippa, and Mateo who were selected to represent the Beaudesert District Athletics Team.

An extra shout-out goes to Jaxon and Madison, who didn’t stop there — they soared even further and earned a place on the Pacific District Team! What an incredible achievement — well done!

But the fun didn’t stop there…

Our Junior Sports Day was an absolute highlight! Students from Prep to Year 2 threw themselves into a day full of exciting games, teamwork, and laughter. The grand finale? A high-energy Colour Fun Run that left everyone smiling (and a little bit rainbow-coloured)!

We couldn’t be prouder of how all our students participated with enthusiasm and showed great sportsmanship throughout the day.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to our amazing staff and parent volunteers who helped make these events such a success. Your support and energy are what make our Beaudesert school community so special.

Here’s to another term of achievement, fun, and community spirit!

LOTE - Japanese

This term in Japanese, our classes are learning about the weird and wonderful culture of mascots.  Each of Japan's 47 prefectures, similar to Australia’s states and territories, has a mascot, and many businesses and corporations also use mascots to promote themselves.  Students are designing their own mascot and learning how to describe the appearance and personality in Japanese.  We have learnt body parts and many adjectives to describe them.

We have a new Japanese mascot this term that visits the class that has the best participation and behaviour.  His name is Doraemon and he is a futuristic robot cat that has all sorts of gadgets in his pocket.  The winning classes so far this term are as follows: 3A, 5B, 4B, 4A and 6B. Congratulations!   All of our classes do such a great job and it is very hard to win Doraemon with such tough competition – so well done!

We also have a mini Doraemon and other mascots that get to sit on the desk of one of our students who is trying hard each lesson.  Well done to those students!

Good job everyone! YOKU DEKIMASHITA  よくできました。

Design Technology

Digital Technologies

This term in Digital Technologies the students across the school have been exploring how digital tools can be used to represent information, solve problems and share ideas.

In Prep, students have been learning how to navigate Seesaw as a program. They have practised sorting data into groups and are beginning to use the iPads as a digital tool to create and present their information in fun and creative ways.

Students in Year 1 and 2 have started working with an app called ScratchJr to follow and design algorithms. They are developing their own problems to solve using iPads and ScratchJr.  They have enjoyed experimenting with branching, some favourites have been making bikes crash into flowers, designing conversations between characters and exploring different ways to create movement.

In Year 3 and 4, the focus has been on understanding how data can exist in different forms and how the same information can be represented in multiple ways. Students have investigated images, sound, symbols, colour, and text, and have used both PCs and Seesaw to record their ideas. They have particularly enjoyed experimenting with the microphone and webcam to represent data in new ways.

Year 5 and 6 students have been looking more deeply at how digital systems operate. They are investigating how computers use binary to process and transmit data, developing an understanding of how technology works. These skills are building foundations for their future learning as they move towards designing and evaluating more complex digital solutions.

STEM

Year 6 STEM Excursion - Queensland Rail Museum

Our Year 6 STEM students recently had an exciting excursion to the Queensland Rail Museum in Ipswich, where they took part in a day full of hands-on STEM challenges and discovery.

During their self-guided exploration, students investigated how forces, energy, and transport design shape the way we move people and goods. They experimented with pulley systems, tested speed and gravity mazes and explored the differences between steam and diesel-electric engines. The train simulators were a highlight, giving students the chance to experience what it’s like to drive a real locomotive!

The day also included a variety of STEM festival workshops, where students launched air pressure rockets and explored the world of virtual drones. Robotics was another key focus, with students trialling different robots to solve problems and complete challenges.

A special presentation on space travel gave students the chance to learn about the future of exploration beyond Earth, including the exciting research into how we might one day grow plants on the moon.

Throughout the day, the students represented our school beautifully, showing curiosity, teamwork and enthusiasm.

This excursion not only strengthened students’ knowledge of STEM concepts but also inspired them to think about the exciting possibilities for the future of science, technology, and engineering.

PBL

Buzzing with Positivity: PBL Shines Bright in Term 3!

This term, our staff and students have been on fire, championing Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) across the school!

Our students have jumped enthusiastically into lessons centred around our three golden rules: Be Safe, Be Responsible, and Show Respect. Through these engaging activities, they’ve taken time to reflect on how to be strong members of our classroom community—maximising learning time, owning their responsibilities, showing kindness, and of course, keeping their hands and feet to themselves!

But that’s not all — Term 3 has been packed with fresh and exciting initiatives to keep the good vibes rolling:

  • Eye-catching new signage in eating areas reminding everyone of our school rules.

  • A shiny new electronic scoreboard outside the library, proudly displaying House points to fuel some friendly competition.

  • A fun-filled Rewards Day celebrating our winning House’s achievements.

  • Surprise pop-up parties with our principal, sparking smiles and laughter around the school!

And the excitement doesn’t stop here — next term we’re launching two awesome new programs:

  • Beauy Boot Camp: a before-school exercise session for both lower and upper primary students, designed to get everyone moving and energized.

  • Morning Circles: taking place in the peaceful yarning circle near the undercover area, these gatherings will build connection and positivity to start the day right.

The PBL Team and all of Beauy’s staff would like to wish our entire school community a safe and restful holiday. Here’s to a fantastic Term 3 and an even brighter Term 4 ahead!
