Eastlakes Edition

Term 3 Week 5

Acknowledgement to Country

On behalf of the students, teachers and parents of Eastlakes Public School, we would like to pay our respects and acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, past, present and future who have the first connection to this land.

We are thankful for the Gadigal and Kameygal clans for taking care of the land, sky and waterways on which we learn and play today.

Together we will rise to the challenge and be respectful andresponsible to care for our country.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land

From the Principal

What a joy it has been to see students, staff and the community engaging in so may wonderful learning opportunities. The staff at EPS work tirelessly to ensure that our students participate in engaging activities that they will remember for years to come.

Book Week

Thank you to Mrs Sander for organising an amazing Book Week showing us that reading really is magic! From the Book Fair to the Magic Show and the lively Book Parade students had multiple opportunities to celebrate the joy of reading.

Bullying No Way

On Tuesday 13th of August students and staff wore purple to take a stand against bullying. Students participated in discussions on challenging stereotypes, empathy, embracing diversity, positive relationships and providing support. Every student in the school has contributed to a whole school display to show that at EPS we are united against bullying.

Science Week

On Wednesday 14th of August to celebrate Science Week, students participated in a "Spotlight on Science" session. Students had the opportunity to engage in scientific experiments, design and make activities and collect data on the theme "Species Survival - More Than Just Sustainability."

Teachers Learning Together

Weeks 4 and 5 saw teachers participating in classroom observations as part of our ongoing commitment to school improvement. Teachers planned and delivered lessons in line with school and personal goals and received feedback from peers about their teaching and learning. Teachers are to be commended for their professionalism, collegiality and pursuit of ongoing learning.

Good Luck

To all EPS students participating in The Zone Athletics Carnival, the Dance Sport Gala at Homebush and the STEAM Challenge at JJ Cahill Memorial High School, we wish you all the very best and know that all your hard work will make the Eastlakes community very proud. A huge thank you to Ms Kutasi, Ms Cox, Mr Spencer, Ms Maher and Mrs Peralta for their tireless efforts, ensuring our students are ready to represent our school in these events.

Fathers Day Breakfast

We look forward to seeing you all at the P&C Father's Day Breakfast on Friday the 30th of August at 8.30am. A great opportunity to celebrate all the wonderful fathers and father figures who provide love, guidance and support. A big thank you to our P&C for organising this event and the sale of Father's Day gifts.

School Support Recognition Week

Week 6 is an opportunity to celebrate the essential role school administrative and support staff (SASS) and other non-teaching staff play in NSW public schools. Please join me in thanking Mrs Peralta, Mrs Massey, Mr Markovski, Mrs Ayan and Mrs Hrysafis for all the work they do to support quality teaching and learning at EPS.

Positive Behaviour for Learning

Congratulations to our Class Award Winners!

We have had a huge week. On Monday the Book Fair arrived. We opened after lunch and closed on Wednesday after the parade. The students were very keen shoppers and left clutching treasures. We have received over $550 worth of books for the school. Thank you to everyone who supported us by making small and large purchases. On Tuesday, as well as the Book Fair, we were entertained by Peter Woods, the funny magician. I was most amazed by the white dove appearing out of nowhere and loved the levitating table, white rabbit and card tricks. The audience were entranced and patting the bunny capped off a sensational performance. Our students were the perfect audience and I was very proud of them. On Wednesday, the final day of the Book Fair, the students outdid themselves dressing up for the annual Book Week parade. We all had lots of fun showing off our costumes which ranged from witches and wizards aplenty, fairytale characters, animals, Marvel characters, sports stars and more. The students (and parents) really showcased their creativity and demonstrated respectful behaviour on the day. We were also fortunate to have lots of parent visitors watching our parade. Thank you to all of you for making our celebration such a success. Lastly, our staff went all out dressing up and I think we all had as much fun as the children! Friday, August 23rd marks the end of our Premier’s Reading Challenge. Congratulations to the more than 140 students who read the required number of books. Reading is the most important skill we can continually improve (in the humble opinion of a Teacher Librarian), so I am very proud of each and everyone one of you. Certificates will be handed out in Term 4. Finally, I would like to thank the wonderful staff of Eastlakes Public School for supporting me and the students during the most important week of the year!
