Dear families,
It has been a busy and productive couple of weeks at Hallett Cove East , with many exciting learning opportunities happening in classrooms across our school. As we move towards the end of the term, I am hopeful that the recent wave of illness is behind us and we enjoy some bright, sunny days ahead. Hopefully everyone remains healthy, and we have a smooth and positive end to the term.
NAPLAN Growth 2026
Our teaching staff have closely analysed the NAPLAN data for 2026, with a particular focus on the growth shown by our students between Year 3 (2024) and Year 5 (2026). NAPLAN is just one of many tools we use to monitor student progress, but it provides valuable insights at both a whole-school and individual level. I am pleased to share some of the key school progress highlights:
The only area where we saw a decline was in Writing. This will be a key focus for our planning and improvement efforts in 2027.
Our strong intervention programs continue to monitor, track, and support student progress, particularly in the early years, where we are committed to bridging gaps in literacy and numeracy. Initiatives such as our classroom instructional literacy routines and number fact fluency activities remain central to our whole-school improvement strategy.
Phonics Screening Checks
As another important check of progress, our Year 1 students took part in the Phonics Screening Check, with targeted Year 2 students participating in the Phonics Recheck to monitor for progress. We are very pleased to see a greater number of students meeting benchmark standards this year. These checks are important; they help us identify students who might be at risk of reading difficulties and guide us in tailoring intervention programs to best meet the needs of our learners.

Sports Day
Sports Day planning is well underway as we head towards the end of term 3. Students have been meeting as Wirra (Green), Tirntu (Yellow), Tarni (Blue) and Milte (Red) and the sounds of team chants have begun ringing out around the school. Students have been practising events in PE lessons and class activities. Week 10 is a super busy week of sports day activities, culminating in the big day on Friday 25th September. A fundraising BBQ, coffee van and Chai Time will be onsite. For students, don't forget our special lunch order for sports day! Sports Day is always a highlight on our school calendar, and we look forward to seeing our wonderful community come together to celebrate and share in the excitement.

I’m Ktora Dannenberg, excited to join Hallett Cove East as your new Deputy Principal!
If you’ve seen me around the Hallett Cove Netball Club, you already know I love being actively involved in our community. That same passion drives my work in education. I believe every student deserves not just academic success, but opportunities to develop strengths like responsibility, fairness, and respect.
My focus is on partnering with educators, students and families to create inclusive learning environments where every child feels valued and can grow as both a learner and a person.
In just my first few days, I’ve been warmly welcomed and have enjoyed seeing students engaged in their lessons, showing respect, and supporting each other.
When I’m not at school or on the netball court, you might find me hiking the local trails or reading at the beach. I’m always open to new adventures and peaceful moments.
I’m excited to get to know everyone and become a true part of this wonderful school.

At Hallett Cove East, we have been on an ongoing cultural journey to strengthen cultural identity, connection and visual safety across our school.
Over recent years, we have taken a number of steps along this journey. This has included updating our Sports Day team names to Kaurna words and, with the support of Dan Rankine, designing new SAPSASA and staff polo shirts that strengthen the visibility of First Nations culture and identity within our school community.
We are now excited to take another step in this journey.
With the support of Simon Wilson, ACEO, we have begun the process of renaming our school buildings using Kaurna language, connecting the names of our spaces with the special features of Kaurna Country on which our school is located.
As part of this process, Simon has worked alongside our Year 6 student leaders to explore what is significant and meaningful about our local area and the Kaurna Country on which we learn, play and grow. We then extended these conversations to our staff, asking them to consider what makes our local environment special and looking for common themes across their responses.
Through these conversations, birds emerged as a strong theme, reflecting their significance and presence within our local environment and community.
We would love to hear from you!An important part of this journey is ensuring our school community has an opportunity to contribute. We are now inviting our families to share their thoughts and provide feedback as we continue to develop the building renaming project.

This process has also provided us with a wonderful opportunity to pause, notice and reflect on what we are grateful for about the environment surrounding our school. Student Wellbeing Leader
At the end of week 6, we had the school disco. This year, to make the disco more inclusive and less overwhelming, an area was set up for those who needed a break from the disco. This was a space where students could go to sit, relax, use a fidget, or draw/ colour for a few minutes, then rejoin the disco. We also had headphones available for those who found the music a bit too loud. These options were very popular, especially the headphones.

Volunteers are important to our school community. Our canteen relies on help from volunteers to deliver a meal service to our pupils.
To enable us to provide a varied recess and lunch menu offer to our pupils we really do need your help.
If you have a spare hour or more we would welcome your support.
Not registered with the school as a volunteer? Volunteer application packs are available from the front office containing all the information you need to submit your registration as a volunteer...... WE NEED YOU
The shop is stocked with a variety of second hand uniform items. The money raised is given back to the school and utilised in fundraising projects.
Remember that if you have any unused uniform items in good clean condition, we'd love to receive them. They can be left at the office anytime. Thank you.
