Principal's Report

Dear JPS Families,

What a busy and productive week we’ve had at JPS!

I am looking forward to my first Grow Your Mind parent session next Tuesday afternoon. Alice Peel will share information about what our students are learning through Grow Your Mind in classrooms, as well as share tools for helping with anxious feelings and ways to support healthy friendships. Mrs Behl-Shanks has kindly offered to supervise any students and siblings who are in attendance. We'd love to see as many parents as possible stick around to enjoy the session with Alice, myself and Mrs McCormack.

On Wednesday, all classes took part in AFL taster sessions. Despite a little rain, the students showed great enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and impressive skills — some activities were moved under the COLA and to the hall to keep everyone dry. These sessions offered a fantastic preview of the clinics starting in Week 6. It was also wonderful to hear from the AFL providers how much they enjoyed their day with our students!

The recently reopened forest has been an absolute hit over the past two weeks. It’s been a joy to see our students collaborating, negotiating, and being creative while exploring and building bases.

I had a productive meeting with the SRC this week, and was impressed by their thoughtful ideas on how we can continue to improve our school. They have also started brainstorming creative ways to use funds raised from their events to benefit the school community. Keep an eye out for their exciting Term 2 fundraiser — Crazy Hair and Sock Day!

Looking ahead, we have begun planning for 2027 enrolments. If you know any families considering JPS for 2027, please encourage them to get in touch with us. Early planning helps us support our students in the best way possible.

Staffing Update

I would like to wish Ashton Reed all the best as he leaves us in Week 7 for a new permanent position at Bowral Public School. Mr Reed has been a much valued member of the JPS staff and has given so much to the school. Make sure you wish him well on his next adventure when you see him around the grounds. This term Mr Reed has been providing support with our Spelling, Learning Support and Bump it Up Programs. This support for students will continue, with myself, Mrs Behl-Shanks and our wonderful SLSOs taking on some of this important work.

We will miss Mr Reed's cheerful, fun-loving and helpful presence in the school, but we know that Bowral Public school will be very lucky to welcome him. All the best, Mr Reed!

I'd also like to thank Sarah for running  the uniform in Jess' absence, as well as welcoming Jess back. The uniform shop will return to normal Wednesday operating hours of 8.45am - 9.15am as of next week.

Kind Regards,

Bec Gavin

A Message from Mrs Lando - Bump It Up

We’re excited to continue our Bump It Up program in Term 2. This special learning experience supports students in small groups with increased individualised instruction, providing a wonderful opportunity for every student to build on their current strengths, whether they are working beyond, on or approaching grade level.

Working alongside our dedicated classroom teachers, I will help identify each student’s unique learning goals and focus on common areas where deeper understanding can make a real difference. Groupings will be flexible each week, with students attending based on their identified needs and progress.

Each Bump It Up session aims to boost students’ confidence and skills through clear, targeted teaching, guided practice and personalised feedback. Our goal is to celebrate progress and empower students to reach the next exciting stage in their learning journey!

Student Code of Conduct

At Jamberoo Public School, we are proud to foster a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued and supported. Our students consistently demonstrate kindness, respect and positivity, and we are incredibly proud of the way they represent our school each day.

The NSW Public Schools Student Behaviour Code outlines the expectations for all students across NSW public schools in a simple and meaningful way: Respect everyone, be responsible and be safe. These are not only important expectations at school, but valuable principles for life.

The parent and student friendly poster below provides a helpful visual reminder of these shared expectations that help make JPS such a wonderful place to learn and grow.

Class Spotlight

Birrahlee

In Birrahlee’s classroom, we have been exploring the dynamic world of hip-hop through the creative use of call and response and catchy hooks. Working collaboratively in groups, students chose meaningful topics for their songs and developed word banks to inspire their lyrics.

Using these word banks, they crafted engaging calls, responses, and memorable hooks, layering their vocal lines with rhythmic claps, stomps, drums, and vocal ostinatos. This hands-on approach allowed them to focus on timbre and build a rich, cohesive musical texture.

Rehearsals centred on refining smooth transitions between verses and choruses, ensuring their call and response sections blended seamlessly with the hooks. The result was a collection of vibrant, original compositions that not only demonstrated musical skill but also sparked joy and enthusiasm.

It was a fantastic process full of learning, creativity, and, most importantly, fun!

Nanga Mai

This week we have started reading From Dry to Dry about Kakadu. We have been exploring our theme of genre and have been developing our writing skills through the use of figurative language about either the wet or the dry season.

In Maths, we have been looking at data and learning how to create both column graphs and line graphs. Students have created graphs in their books as well as online using spreadsheets.

We have also been busy practising for our class assembly item on gratitude and are looking forward to performing for the school on Friday.
