World Teachers’ Day – Thank You

Today is World Teachers’ Day - yay!!! I'm sure you will join me in thanking all of your dedicated teachers at Nuriootpa Primary School.

Their commitment to our students goes far beyond the classroom. Every day, they bring passion, skill, and kindness to their work, supporting each child’s growth not only in their learning but in their wellbeing and personal development as well. Their hard work and care make such a difference.

Thanks again - I appreciate all that you do 😊

Classes for 2026

As we look ahead to the 2026 school year, we begin the important process of formulating class groups. This process takes considerable time and thought, as we aim to create balanced classes in which all students can thrive, both academically and socially.

When considering class placements, we carefully take into account a range of factors, including:

  • Academic needs: We want to ensure that every student is placed in a class where learning needs can be met and supported.

  • Friendships: We always consider positive social connections that will help your child feel comfortable and safe in their new class. For this purpose, next week we will be giving students the opportunity to indicate 3 peers that they would like to have in their class. We then use this to ensure that students HAVE AT LEAST ONE of their friends from 2025 with them. However, bear in mind that we also wish to promote new friendship development across the school.

  • Group dynamics: Our teachers are familiar with the different personalities and group interactions that contribute to a successful classroom environment.

  • Social and Emotional development: We look at how students interact with others and work to create classes that support positive growth and wellbeing.

  • Individual needs: We review any particular considerations relevant to individual students, which may have been communicated by families or identified by staff.

While we will do our best to take all circumstances into account, class formation is a complex task and, unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate every request. If you have information about your child’s specific needs that you feel should be considered, please contact me via email or phone by next Friday, 7th November.

Thank you for your ongoing trust and support as we work together to create the best possible learning environment for every student at Nuriootpa Primary School.

Technology use at NPS

Why We Use Technology

Enhances Learning: Technology helps students access a wide variety of learning resources, encourages creativity and problem-solving, and supports collaboration.

Future Skills: Digital literacy is essential for students to thrive in the modern world; learning to use technology safely is part of their education.

Individualised Learning: Devices and apps can provide personalised learning experiences, supporting students at different levels.

How We Ensure Safe and Responsible Use

Supervised Use: All technology use at school is supervised by teachers and guided by clear expectations.

Internet Filtering: Our school network includes filtering systems to protect students from inappropriate content.

Set Time Limits: We follow recommended guidelines for screen time to balance digital and non-digital activities.

There are several common concerns associated with technology use among primary school students. Understanding and addressing these concerns is important to ensure that technology supports, rather than hinders, student development and wellbeing.

Common Concerns:

Online Safety and Cyberbullying

Exposure to inappropriate content or online predators.

Risk of cyberbullying through messaging, apps, or social platforms.

Personal information or images being shared or misused.

Screen Time and Health

Excessive screen time can affect sleep, physical activity, and eyesight.

Potential impact on social skills if digital interaction replaces face-to-face communication.

Need for regular breaks to prevent eyestrain and posture problems.

Digital Distraction and Reduced Engagement

Risk of distraction with access to games or non-educational content.

Decreased attention span due to fast-paced digital media.

Possible reduction in hands-on and outdoor learning experiences.

Data Privacy and Security

Concerns over data being collected by apps or platforms.

Ensuring student information is kept secure and confidential, following Department for Education policies.

Inappropriate Use or Digital Misconduct

Students may use devices in ways unintended, such as sharing inappropriate materials or plagiarising content.

Managing Concerns

Privacy: We use only department-approved platforms that protect student privacy.

Parent Partnership: We encourage families to talk about technology use at home and work with the school to reinforce safe use.

Support: If you have concerns about your child’s use of technology, please speak with your child’s teacher or a member of the leadership team.

How You Can Help at Home

Monitor Usage: Stay involved in your child’s digital activities.

Promote Balance: Encourage physical activity, outdoor play, and conversation away from screens.

Model Positive Behaviour: Show your child how to use technology responsibly.

From the Wellbeing Leader

Supporting Children from Separated Families

At Nuriootpa Primary School, we understand that families come in many shapes and sizes. Some of our students live across two homes or are part of blended families. What matters most is that every child feels safe, supported, and cared for—both at home and at school.

Separation can bring change and new routines for children. It’s normal for them to experience a mix of emotions, from confusion to sadness or even relief. At school, we focus on providing consistency, understanding, and a listening ear to help children feel secure during these times.

Our staff work closely with parents and caregivers to ensure communication remains clear and positive. Simple steps, like sharing school updates with both homes and keeping routines predictable, help children feel settled and included.

If your family is going through a separation, please reach out to your child’s teacher or a member of our leadership team. We’re here to support all families and help every child feel connected, confident, and cared for—no matter their circumstances.

Parent Volunteers

If you are able, Nuriootpa Primary welcomes any parents and carers who would like  to volunteer.  Parent and Carer Volunteers are a valued support base for our school, assisting staff to provide  a range of high quality opportunities to promote the learning, wellbeing and growth of students.

Some ways you can be involved may include:

·       Listen to Students read

·       Assistance on excursions and Camps

·       Helping out at School Events (eg Christmas Concert, Sports day and SAPSASA)

If you are interested in supporting the school in either of these,  please contact the Front Office and speak to Karen Brook on 8562 1040 to book in for an information night to be held early next term.

Please note: All volunteers need  a  WWCC (Working with Children Check) and RHAN (Responding to Harm and Neglect).  The School will support interested people in gaining these.
