Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we wrap up Term 2, I’d like to commend all our students for their enthusiasm and effort throughout a busy and rewarding term. A highlight this week was our STEM Fair on Wednesday, which showcased the creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills of our students across year levels. Our strong focus on STEM is something that truly sets Lae International School apart, and we look forward to building on this momentum next term with more exciting initiatives in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

We also celebrated the end of the term with our Whole School Spirit Carnival. A big thank you to Ms. Kanini and her team of helpers for organising such an energetic and inclusive event. It was fantastic to see so many students participating and enjoying themselves.

This week, families will receive student reports in our new format. Parents are encouraged to reach out to their child’s class teacher, the Head of Campus, Deputy Principal, or the principal if they have any questions or would like to discuss their child’s progress.

Term 3 will bring a fresh round of after-school extracurricular activities. We’re fortunate to offer a wide range of options in the school, and we encourage families to visit the Audiri App to sign up. In Secondary, ECAs will focus mainly on exam preparation and targeted academic support.

A reminder as well that all outstanding school fees for Term 2 must be cleared before students can return in Term 3. Our Finance team will be in touch with families regarding fee matters.

During the break, a number of capital works will be underway, including upgrades to the ELC playground to enhance safety and continued painting across the Secondary campus – thanks to our Board of Governors for supporting the school in these maintenance projects.

As we head into the school holiday break, I want to wish all our students a safe and restful break. Please note that school resumes for all students—including boarders—on Monday, 14 July.

Thank you for your continued support of Lae International School.

Regards,

Mr Greg Neville

Principal

Teacher Only Day

Our teacher only day this week focused on looking ahead to term 3. Our yearly focus of communication, adherence to IEA and school policies and procedures, and academic excellence was re-asserted by Mr Neville in our first session. We were fortunate to have Dr Litwiller with us for the session whom further aligned our school focus to the IEA vision and mission. Our primary teachers had training on the use of PAT data to support student outcomes. Dr Litwiller was in attendance to this session and commended LIS for the leading the way with the use of PAT testing, as the IEA begins to introduce this across all schools in the group. Dr Litwiller expressed the importance of LIS offering support and advice to other schools in the group as they too embark on benchmark assessments of progress. Our secondary students completed a session related to the pastoral role of homeroom teachers and subject teachers as we continue to develop our support of student’s social and emotional needs in secondary. Our primary teachers continued their training on our new class integrated ICT curriculum, starting in term 3, which will enable our students further develop in all areas of ICT.

School Arrival and Departure Times:

Parents are reminded that school finishes at 3pm on both campuses. Students should only remain past pick up time 3.00pm – 3.15pm in secondary if they are participating in intervention classes or a sports ECA. Students not participating should leave the secondary campus promptly after 3pm.

ECAs finish have now finished in primary. All primary students should be picked up promptly between 3.00pm – 3.15pm. In the rare event of a late pick up, due to unforeseen issues, parents should be contacting the school office to advise them. Students should not be regularly picked up late as the school is unable to provide supervision for them.

The school bus service is available as an option if parents are unable to pick their children up at the required times.

As a reminder to all parents and guardians, supervision of students on the primary campus begins at 7.30am with students able to enter classes from 7.45am. We advise all parents to ensure they do not drop their children off earlier than 7.30am. If students arrive between 7.30am and 7.45am they will be supervised in the hall and need to remain in there seated quietly until they can enter classroom.

Final Term 2 Newsletter

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

Welcome to the concluding edition of our Term 2 e-newsletter. Although this has been a relatively short nine-week term, it has been packed with significant activities, achievements, and moments of growth. I’d like to extend my sincere gratitude to all parents and guardians for your continuous support in ensuring that your child attends school consistently and finishes the term on a strong note.

STEM Fair Highlights

A special commendation goes to all the students who took part in our recent STEM Fair. Your creativity, dedication, and perseverance were clearly evident in your projects. It was inspiring to witness the depth of thinking and level of innovation on display—true reflections of the high-quality education we strive to deliver.

Final Week Program Overview

We aim to close Term 2 on a high and celebratory note. Here’s what to expect in the final days:

Thursday, 19 June – House meetings followed by an exciting Drone Competition, proudly organized by the Student Representative Council (SRC).

Friday, 20 June – Our much-anticipated Spirit Carnival will take place at the Primary School Campus for Grades 5 to 12. This event promises a vibrant and festive atmosphere, where students will showcase their athletic talents and school pride. It also marks the official last day of school for the term.

Please continue to encourage your child to attend school until the final day so they can enjoy every moment and end the term positively.

Looking Ahead to Term 3

Our academic journey continues with momentum into Term 3. Intervention programs will resume, targeting key learning areas to support student progress. We encourage all students, especially those identified for these sessions, to attend regularly and with commitment.

The Term 2 break begins after school on Friday, 20 June. Both students and teachers will enjoy a well-deserved three-week holiday, from Monday, 23 June to Friday, 11 July. The secondary campus office will be closed for the duration of the holiday break. Any queries can be brought to the Primary Campus office. We thank you for your understanding on this.

Term 3 will officially commence on Monday, 14 July 2025. We kindly urge all students to be punctual and present on the first day as we start afresh with new goals and expectations.

A quick reminder:

  • Grade 10 IGCSE students will be sitting their Mock Examinations during Week 1 of Term 3.
  • Likewise, Grade 12 ACT students will also participate in the ACT Scaling Test (AST) that same week.

Please ensure that students are well-prepared and rested for these important tests.

In closing, I wish all families a restful and joyful break. May this time allow you to relax, recharge, and reconnect. We look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for an exciting new term ahead.

Cheers
