Principal's Message

It has been a pretty hectic term with so much happening and lots of students and staff having long stints off with flu and COVID which has had an obvious impact on teaching and learning. Huge thank you to all the parents who have been so supportive and understanding when these situations arise.  We have several staff changes in Semester 2. From next term Mrs Marginis will be on maternity leave for the rest of the year, we look forward to the arrival of her little bub in September. We warmly welcome Ms Rebecca Laing who will be teaching in Room 6. Mrs Samsa is reducing her time and we welcome back Mrs Barnes who will work as a tandem in Room 2 for Semester 2.

A huge thank you to everyone for being part of the CPS community and ensuring we collectively provide an amazing learning environment for our children. We are looking forward to another spectacular term!

More celebrations keep coming our way!

I attended the WA Government Schools Music Society (WAGSMS) concert at the Crown Wednesday night to watch the amazing musical talent of students in the government schools system. Our senior choir were exceptional! I was super proud of them and the outstanding way they presented themselves. Huge accolades to Mr Michael Howesmith for his incredible musical talent that he imparts to the children, last night was testament to this.

Our year 3-6 students went to interschool cross country on Wednesday. Fantastic effort to everyone for their participation and having a go. Big thank you to Mr Marshall for all his training and Mrs Morgan for supporting the team on the day.

Our P & C are an integral part of our community who support the focus on building a positive, engaging and collective school culture and community. They work tirelessly to support all CPS families. Without volunteers to take on various roles the P & C are unable to operate and the Canteen, uniform shop, cake stalls, fun events will not happen. The P & C are currently in desperate need for volunteers to take on the Canteen Coordinator role and Communications Officer position. If you are interested please contact Jess Vanson, P & C President at churchlands.pc.president@gmail.com  If these positions are not filled the P & C may be required to reconsider how they can operate as a school organisation.

We are often asked for resources related to parenting. One great resource we find valuable is by Maggie Dent a renowned parenting and educator expert, who provides practical resources that covers lots of areas that families face on a daily basis. We hope that you may find some of the information helpful.

Student Health and Wellbeing

Parents,

Please see various Health information documents from our community nurse below.

Attention Upper Primary parents: Information for parents and carers of upper primary children.

Attention PP parents:  Colour blindness

Attention Kindy and PP parents: Undescended testes

Attention Year 6 parents: Scoliosis

Scoliosis is an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine. It can be detected by a simple examination of the back.

The normal spine has three curves – one in the neck, on in the upper back and one in the lower back. These curves can be seen from the side, but when you look from behind the spine should appear straight. If the spine has a sideways curve, this is scoliosis.

An information leaflet about Scoliosis will be distributed to all year 6 students. Please read through the information provided and check your child for scoliosis as described in the leaflet. Any other interested parents can download the attached Scoliosis brochure.

If you have any concerns, please contact your General Practitioner.’

The Premier’s Reading Challenge is well under way with 122 students registered. Collectively, these students have already read and recorded a staggering 1028 books!

It would be wonderful to see this number grow over the coming weeks and to have more of our students here at Churchlands PS involved. As  an added incentive, there are 12 Ipad minis to give away to current  participants who keep reading and new registrations over the July holidays.

Anyone from Kindergarten to Year 10 can register to take part in the challenge. You can access over 7,000 book titles, which can be logged onto your child's bookshelf. While the challenge is for your child to log a minimum of 12 books, feel free to log more!

By logging books, your child can be in the running to win fantastic weekly prizes. The prizes include experiences such as a zipline from Matagarup Bridge, Perth Zoo family passes, book packs and much more!

All students who log a minimum of 12 books over the challenge are also in the running for an end-of-year prize.
