Plattsburg Public School Newsletter

March 2025, Term 1 Week 8

A Message from the Principal

Dear Plattsburg Community,

At Plattsburg Public School, we are fully invested in fostering a high-quality learning environment for all students. As part of our commitment to High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE), we continue to focus on providing opportunities for all learners to excel. Next week, myself and our Assistant Principals Curriculum and Instruction (APCIs) will be attending an Explicit Teaching Conference to ensure we stay up to date with the latest developments in this space and bring best practices back to our classrooms.

Today our school came together to celebrate Harmony Day, and what a success it was! A big thank you to our entire school community for their involvement and for embracing the spirit of inclusivity and respect.

Looking ahead, we are excited for our upcoming Values Gala Day next Friday. More details will be sent out next week, so stay tuned!

Expressions of Interest (EOI) have been sent out for the Year 5/6 camp at the Great Aussie Bush Camp. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students, and we encourage families to submit their EOIs by Friday 28th March.

Our Spotted initiative is thriving, with students being recognised both in classrooms and the playground. Best of luck to all students in the weekly draw held every Tuesday morning – keep up the great work!

Another highlight this term has been the Birthday Lollipop drop-ins. It has been wonderful to recognise and celebrate all students who have had their birthdays so far this year.

A huge congratulations to all students who completed NAPLAN. Your effort and resilience are commendable. Additionally, we want to thank all students for their flexibility and understanding with room movements after the recent break-in. Your adaptability showcases the strength of our school community.

As always, if you require any further information, please do not hesitate to reach out to the school.

Regards,

Dave Hopson (Relieving Principal, Plattsburg Public School)

Harmony Day

Thank you to everyone who made Harmony Day a huge success for our students. The rain didn't stop our students from having a fun day!

In NSW Government schools, applying to move from primary school to high school is a 2-step process:

Step 1: The first step is to complete a Moving to high school expression of interest. When completing this form, you will be able to indicate which school(s) you would like your child to attend in Year 7.

Step 2: The second step is to submit an enrolment application, which will be issued to you by the high school after they have assessed your expression of interest.

Please click the link to Apply for Year 7 placement in a NSW Government high school in 2026. Expressions of interest is open from this week, week 6 until week 9.

Community Survey

We value your insights and are always looking for ways to enhance our school. We will be sending out a short survey to gather positive feedback on what’s working well and how we can continue to support our students and families. While the survey is not compulsory, your input will help us build on our strengths and create even better experiences for our school community.

Thank you for your ongoing support—we look forward to continuing our work together!

'The Plattsburg PS chess team made its annual pilgrimage to the Bishop Tyrrell Chess Gala Day on Friday. The team was lead by our chess captains, Hannah W and Oliver G, who were outstanding role models to our younger players that were participating for the first time.

Your Plattsburg PS chess team consisted of Hannah Wr (C), Oliver G (C), Cash E, Ernest E, Ryan H and Kon M. Each student played 7 matches throughout the day, with Plattsburg students showing tremendous sportsmanship and resilience as they rode the highs and lows of the competition.

I would like to thank all the parents and carers who made possible the day, without your support these kinds of events cannot run.

Chess club at Plattsburg is run on Fridays in the library during the first half of lunch. All students are welcome, no matter level of experience. I look forward to seeing the future generations of Plattsburg chess players representing our wonderful school at gala days in years to come.

Plattsy Spotted

We launched an exciting new well-being initiative for our students—Plattsy Spotted!

This program works alongside our well-established school values, encouraging and recognising positive behaviour throughout our school.

All staff will be on the lookout for students who demonstrate our school values in their actions and interactions. When spotted, students will receive a Plattsy Spotted slip, which will contribute towards a positive end-of-term reward!

Community Reminder: Please encourage your children to uphold our school values of Respect, Independence, Empathy and Connecting—our staff are keeping an eye out for Plattsy Spotted moments every day!For any questions or clarification, feel free to contact the school.

Getting to School on Time

At Plattsburg, we know that being at school on time and ready to learn sets our students up for success. Our Literacy and Numeracy sessions are packed with important lessons, explicit teaching, and valuable opportunities for students to continue developing their skills.

All our staff at Plattsburg have high expectations for our students, and arriving to class on time is one simple yet powerful way we can all support their learning. We greatly appreciate the families who consistently ensure their children are in class, ready to engage from the start of the day.

If you would like to discuss this further, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.
