Principal's Report

Hello everyone,

The Macedon Ranges are a tight knit and interconnected community and the events of last Sunday have reverberated throughout our small town and local area. With the extended break and beautiful weather, many of us would have taken advantage of local restaurants and open spaces which has meant that this tragic incident has hit even closer to home for many. As a school, MMPS has extended their thoughts and prayers to the Hesket Primary School community, whose Principal, Seona Aulich was injured in the accident. In the coming days and weeks, I imagine further details will continue to impact our community, if at any stage you feel you or your family need any sort of support please do not hesitate to contact us here at school.

On Monday we had a Pupil Free Day here at school which gave the staff the chance to do a couple of important things. We had our annual First Aid training course in the morning and then moved into individual professional learning and report preparation in the afternoon. These Pupil Free Days are vital in giving schools the chance to get ahead with important planning decisions and hit the ground running in 2024! We will be holding another pupil free day on Monday, the 27th of November to plan our PYP Program of Inquiry for 2024. This is a huge day of collaborative planning that maps out every Unit of Inquiry the school will be undertaking next year.

On Friday the grade 6 students will be running a Car Wash to help raise money for their Grade 6 Jackets and Graduation. This is a wonderful tradition that sees them develop skills in planning and running an event. The car wash will run at the following times: 8:30AM-9:15AM and then from 2:30PM-4:00PM in the afternoon. FOS are also running a Pop-Up Café to help support the grade 6s.

Next Monday evening sees the beginning of our Grade 3-6 Preparation for Puberty program with a parent information night. The night’s purpose is to outline the content being covered in the program as well as how it will be presented It will also help support parents to feel more confident about having these important conversations with the young people in their lives. There is also the opportunity to ask questions of the presenters. The session will be starting at 7:30PM and be held via Zoom. It will go for 1 hour.

We are excited to welcome two preservice teachers from Swinburne University to our school next week. It has been a while since we have been able to have preservice teachers in our classrooms and has been something we have missed! The two students will be in our F/1 and 3/4 classes.

Finally, a big thank you to Brock Glenister who came in over the weekend a few weeks back to grind down some areas of our concrete paths which had risen up. We also extend our thanks to the Quinn family who continue to maintain our beautiful veggie garden. Thank you!

Thanks,

Joe.

FROM THE OFFICE

I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend.  Mother nature turned on the good weather for us and it feels like summer is that little bit closer!

Give yourselves a pat on the back, as we have officially made it half way through Term 4!  My goodness, it certainly has gone by quickly.  Christmas will be here before we know it.  My kids are already putting the Christmas list request in!

Behind the scenes, we are busily preparing for 2024.  Book packs have been ordered and Parent Payment Plans are now available or our website.  Hard copies will be coming home this week also.  If you have any questions please come and see me in the office, send an email or give me a call.

If you are heading away before the last day of school, December 20th, can you please let me know asap.

This week in DigiTech

So, this week it was time for another, patented "Trick students into learning something boring while doing something fun" activity, and this time it was typing.

I saw in previous weeks when the junior students were learning all about usernames and passwords, typing and keyboard layout was the biggest stumbling block, so, this week it was all about learning those things... by making Pokémon cards!

Yes, there is a bit of a Pokémon infestation at school, so, students were asked to come up with their very own Pokémon card (and picture of course) but they had to type out all the details themselves, it was a lot of fun (after we found out where the P key was on the keyboard) here are some I caught in the video link below (warning: Any parents aged between 30 and 40 may get some serious flashback vibes)

Side note: My original plan was to just do this activity with the Prep/1 and 1/2 classes, but once the 2/3 class found out, well, I was afraid for my safety if I did not let them have a go too, those Pokémon card collectors are a tough bunch...

Gotta catch 'em all
