Many of our Year Four students celebrated the Sacrament of First Eucharist last Sunday. It was a very special occasion and the students spoke of feeling very special. They showed respect and reverence throughout the celebration and we feel blessed to be a part of their continuing Faith Journey.
Below are some reflections on their experience:
Ivy: As we prepared for our first communion, we learnt that the bread is blessed by God and that being catholic means to be with God every step of our lives, so we take the Eucharist as a sign that we believe in God. I think that first communion is the most special time in someone's life because it represents your-self in the catholic faith. I also think that it is the most exciting time in someone's life because you get to receive the holy bread and you get to celebrate this special time with your friends.
Mason: While preparing for our first holy communion, we found out that it's taking another step in our catholic faith. As we prepared for this sacrament we practiced receiving the bread and getting our certificates, it was very exciting.
When receiving the Eucharist, straight after I felt closer to God and stronger in my catholic faith. I think I felt that way because now I have the body of Christ inside of me. Getting our certificates was a nice way to know that I've had my first eucharist.
Jonathan: At the start and middle of the mass, a few of the students went to do a reading and I was one of them. I was quite nervous to go up and read my lines but when I got up there I felt Jesus by my side and had courage. I did my reading really well and I was proud.
Alessandro: When we started to get the body of Christ I was shaking, I was so nervous, but after Georgia had received it I was up; I had the biggest butterflies EVER!
Connor: As a group of year 4 students, we received our first holy communion and were welcomed into Jesus Christ’s family forever. I was one of them and once you have the blessed bread, you become a whole better person.
Georgia: I was pretty nervous when I walked into the church on Sunday. I was supposed to walk in with a partner, but because my partner was away I had to walk in on. my own! That actually felt like some sort of opportunity for me. As I got called up for my reading (a responsorial psalm) I had big butterflies in my stomach like Natasha. But it was fine. I am sure that I was heard, loud and clear. I walked up the aisle for my receiving of Jesus Christ. This was it. The big moment. The time I was about to make one the most important sacraments in the church. I was really proud of myself. It was a special and memorable experience.
Tommy: A few of the grade four students received their first holy communion on Sunday. They received Jesus himself and consumed him in to their life. They are now a part of God's big family. It was so awesome.
Natasha: When I walked in I had very BIG butterflies. My heart was beating very fast. But I was really excited to receive eucharist for the first time. I did a prayer of the faithful. I felt REALLY nervous. Everyone would be looking at me! I did pretty well though. Everyone could hear me.
