Principals Address
Moorditj has enjoyed one of its busiest terms filled with culture, activity and learning. Our students had practical learning experiences through incursions from our Bookweek Incursion, SVSHS Music and Bookweek Tour. The children went on excursions on country to Woodbridge Reserve with KindiLink, our students went to the Literacy Centre in Fremantle to study visual texts, we visited Guildford Grammar during Science Week and went to the State Theatre thanks to Barking Gecko. The study of culture was prominent through our massive NAIDOC week celebrations, literacy activities on Indigenous Literacy Day and our emphasis on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Day.
These opportunities occur regularly at Moorditj and students need to attend every-day to benefit from them.
Birdiya Booyi
Birdiya Booyi or “Boss Turtle” is a reminder to Moorditj students that we need to be Caring, Respectful and Responsible. There are always fun and exciting opportunities available to our students but these privileges are earned not given. Students that demonstrate unsafe behaviours that include running away or the physical intimidation of staff or students will not be taken offsite during excursions as this is a risk to themselves and others.
Attendance
Our overall school attendance has improved slightly to 80% in Term 3. Students with 85% attendance enjoy special rewards every term. This term the children were taught how to skate-board down at the local skatepark and enjoyed yummy donuts.
Home Reading
Home Reading is an important part of our literacy strategy at Moorditj Noongar Community College. It is important that children read every night for at least 10 minutes. We will send home a variety of books that are at their appropriate level. Students that get their home reading books folders signed, will earn books every 20 nights at assembly.
