Term 4 - Week 2 (24th October, 2025)

Dear St Mary's School Community,

Focus Value: : Respect

We value others, their property, the environment and ourselves.

Fete

Once again, I congratulate Christine Johnston and her amazing committee on the spectacular success last Saturday. I would also like to extend special thanks to all the local businesses, families and individuals who supported us with their donations prior to the Fete. This support and the support we received on the day is an indication of the incredible community we are all part of. Thank again to you all.

Carpark

We are still waiting on the Shire to complete the carpark resurfacing, but I WOULD like to thank the carpark bitumen fairy who quietly crept in under cover of darkness and filled one of the worst potholes with a bag of quickset bitumen. Thank you!!

P&F

We have our P&F meeting this TUESDAY night (instead of Monday) at 7pm in the Library. All parents and supporters of St Mary’s are welcome to attend.

Mass

Next Thursday is our All Saints Mass led by our Pre Primary class. Once again, everyone is welcome to attend.

Grandparents Day

We have our annual Grandparents Day on Friday the 7th of November. After listening to feedback from our Grandparents last year, we have aligned this years’ event along the lines of our Mothers Day celebration. We will gather in the Hall at 9.45am for the Liturgy, have morning tea and then the Grandparents can join the children and share recess on the lawn.

Class News

Year Five/Six

Welcome Back to Term 4 – Year 5/6 Update!

It’s Term 4 and we are starting to realise what’s just around the corner – END OF YEAR! For most of the class it means graduation and high school, and for a few it means getting ready for Year 6!

The days are slipping by so fast with still lots of learning to do. We have been learning about volume, capacity and mass this week with some fun experiments with water and objects to calculate and convert using these units of measure. We have our concert to practice for, a cricket cup to win, leadership speeches to write, rehearse and present, a yearbook to complete, Y7 transition – the list goes on!

We will be welcoming Miss Ella Ross this term for her teaching practicum for weeks 4 to 7. Please make her feel welcome if you see her in class or around the school. Miss Ross will be lucky enough to experience our Christmas concert too!

We look forward to a busy but productive end of year.

Special Events

St Mary's Fete

Days like Saturday are not possible without the support of our volunteers. So we take this opportunity to thank everyone who volunteered on Saturday from setting the tables, chairs, marquees etc up in the morning, to taking some time out of your day and completing a shift or two on one of our fantastic stalls and finishing off with the tedious job of cleaning and packing away. It is greatly appreciated. We would also like to take this opportunity to give a BIG Thank you to the ladies in green hats . These ladies have been meeting very regularly over the past 6 months (or more) to plan Saturday’s Fete. Under the leadership of Christine Johnston and her helpers Sophie Alberti, Tessa Crook, Olivia Gray, Georgia Brown, Megan Anderson, Heather Jardine, Gemma Dolton, Hannah Herbert and Marie Bartlett, this team has successfully planned, coordinated and seen the 2025 St Mary’s School Fete become a wonderful success that was enjoyed by not only our wonderful St Mary’s community but the entire Merredin and surrounds. Congratulations Ladies on a Successful Fete, you should be all very proud of your hard work and dedication.Thank you!!

Saturday’s School Fete would also not of been possible without the wonderful support from all of these wonderful businesses!  A VERY BIG thank you to all of the local businesses and School families who have donated items and cash towards the day, your support was greatly appreciated!!

Stay tuned for the update next week on the total raised!!!!

Thanks again to all our wonderful sponsors!!

Cricket WA Cricket Clinic

On Tuesday, our students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 were lucky enough to participate in a Cricket Clinic run by Cricket WA.

Thank you to Emma and Darcy for taking us through a number of fun games that helped us to develop our cricket skills, they will come in very handy for the students who are playing in the cricket cup at Merredin College in week three.
