Letter from the Principal, Kelli Johnston

Dear Families

On Saturday 31st May the Feast of the Visitation was celebrated. The Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary celebrates Mary visiting  her cousin Elizabeth who is pregnant with John the Baptist. This Gospel scene connects the two ‘annunciations’ of Elizabeth and Mary – two women and two promises. As soon as Elizabeth hears Mary’s greeting, the baby in Elizabeth’s womb begins to ‘dance’. Jesus, the Messiah, who is not yet born, but is present in his mother’s womb, meets his precursor, the prophet, who is also present in the womb of his mother, Elizabeth.”

Winter Sports Gala

Last Thursday the Year 5/6 students and a few Year 4 students represented St John’s in the annual Winter Sports Gala. Our students were exemplary in the manner in which they participated.  The feedback from our staff was that the students were exceptional in demonstrating the SJB School Expectations, as well as demonstrating exemplary sportsmanship.  Congratulations to all students who participated in the day. We hope you all enjoyed a wonderful day of competition.

We thank all parents who were able to attend and support our students in their selected sports. Our students thoroughly enjoy having the support of our families at such events. A big thank you to David Ambler for assisting with coaching, along with Alex Schafter who assisted with umpiring.

We would like to thank Mr John Mitchell, Mrs Lisa Giuliano, Mr Wayne Daniell and Mrs Franca Paduano for their efforts and support of our students throughout the day.

2026 Prep Enrolments

  • Drop into the school office to collect one

  • Email office@sjferntreegully.catholic.edu.au and ask for a form to be sent home

  • Visit the enrolment section of our school website and download a form

Term 2 Closure Dates

Families are asked to note in their calendars this Friday 6th June as a School Closure Day followed by Monday 9th June as the King’s Birthday public holiday.

We thank Mrs Marialisa Mandarino for preparing a day of Faith Formation and Education for our staff. Like our students we are lifelong learners. Providing opportunities for our staff to learn and develop in the area of Faith in Education allows staff to continue to develop rich learning opportunities for our students.

The King’s Birthday long weekend is an opportunity for students and families to take a little mid term break to recharge for the second half of the term.  Wishing all families a warm and restful long weekend.

MHiPS & Respectful Relationships

SVDP Winter Appeal - Terms 2 and 3

Student Illnesses

As we move towards winter, colds, flu and COVID will start to enter school environments. We ask families to keep unwell children at home to reduce the spread of viruses. Additionally, teaching children good hygiene practices of placing tissues in the bin after use and washing hands thoroughly is also important.

As a community it is important to show how ‘We care for each other’ by providing unwell children with the time at home to rest and return to school well for the wellbeing of all.

SJB Family Camping Weekend

The SJB Family Camping weekend is not far away.  We have had a wonderful response from the community. There is still good availability of sites but cabin availability is getting tight. There is a recommendation for those who have booked powered sites to move to the powered sites near the camp kitchen and oval to create a designated SJB area.

We wish all our families a wonderful weekend of camping.

Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews

Parent/teacher/student interviews will be held on Tuesday 1st July and Wednesday 2nd July.  We encourage all students to attend interviews with their families. The focus of interviews is to celebrate the hard work students have undertaken throughout the semester, as well as the growth they have made as a result of their hard work. Families will be able to book their interview times through School Interviews site next week.

Interviews will be held on:

     Tuesday 1st July 2:30-6:00pm

     Wednesday 2nd July 3:30-5:30pm

Beleza Uniforms

Thank you to families who have raised concerns in relation to shortage of uniform items. We have made contact with Beleza to seek an understanding of the availability of uniform items.

Beleza outlined that maroon windcheaters are due in store by Week 7. There has been a challenge with the track pants in which we have been able to find a solution. Track pants will be available in store this week as well.

Due to the delays with track pants all families will receive 20% discount on track pants. Please feel free to ask Beleza for this when in store.

Lost Property

There is a large number of maroon windcheaters, many without names, in the lost property basket in the First Aid room.  We encourage families to check lost property for items as there certainly is an abundance of windcheaters.
