Principal's Message

Dear Families,

We have had a challenging start to the term with quite a number of staff and students away sick.  Hopefully we are at the tail end of it and will have our full complement of staff for the rest of Term 2.

Thank you to those families who attended one of our Education Week activities.  It is great to have families able to spend some time in school and see what the students are learning.

Apologies again for the late notice for Monday’s Common Professional Practice Day.  We are putting processes in place to ensure that communication about important dates is always timely.

Prep Enrolments

Planning for Prep 2024 is well underway.  We had information sessions, come and play and school tours last week as part of Education Week.  If you have a child starting prep next year, could you please complete an enrolment application form.  Forms are available at the office or via the MPS website.  Applications are due by Friday the 28thJuly.

Grade 5 and 6 Skiing

Grade 5 and 6 families received some information on skiing for this season.  If you have any questions regarding this, please contact the front office.

Balls at School

If your child is bringing a ball to school, football, downball etc, please make sure they have their name on them.  That makes it much easier for the balls to find their way back to the kids.  I try to get up to check gutters at the end of each week.

Working Bee

We have a Working Bee on Sunday - 11am – 1pm.  Short and sharp and hopefully lots of hands to make light work of the jobs we have lined up.  Pruning, mulching, collecting leaves, oiling seats and a couple of small building jobs.

Could families please bring along: wheelbarrows, secateurs, pruning saws, leaf rakes and shovels.

Finally, Paula and I are on leave for the last 3 weeks of Term 2.  We are heading across to Denmark to visit our daughters and catch up with family, which is very exciting.  Nicole Salmon will be Acting Principal while I'm away.  Please contact her, from the 5thJune nicole.comerford@education.vic.gov.au.

Like always, please get in touch with us with any questions or concerns.  Call or email your classroom teacher, call the front office or email me tom.macmunn@education.vic.gov.au.

Have a lovely long weekend.

Take Care,

Tom

Mansfield Primary School’s World Greatest Shave

On Thursday 11th May 2023, Mansfield Primary School took part in the World’s Greatest Shave where students signed up to fundraise money to help support The Leukaemia Foundation. Each year, thousands of Australians participate in the event, making it their mission to help beat blood cancer by getting sponsored to shave, colour or cut their hair.

17 students signed up to shave their heads on the day, in support of the event.

Our brave team of shavers were: Franzi Stumpf, Corey Purvis, Jack Stevensen, Jake Hoskin, Banjo Russell, James Camilleri, Kayden Schaeftlein, Brock Martin, Coby Hodge, Poppy Craven, Kai Friday, Keegan Carman, Cody Stevens, Mannix Peck, Jett Riches, Angus Maling and Ashley Harbour.

We also had a team of students who fundraised and coloured their hair on the day.

The total amount raised was $12,264.

We hope that by shaving or colouring our hair we can send hope and support to the many families currently facing blood cancer, raise funds to provide relief to those who need it, and most importantly one day find a cure.

Thank you to everyone who supported our cause.

Year 4 Hike

On Wednesday 17th May the Year 4’s from Mansfield Primary School explored Mount Stirling as part of their School to Summit programme. It was a crisp but stunning day up the mountain and the students were excited and enthusiastic! This year Mount Stirling is the ‘mountain home’ for the Year 4’s as they will also have four sessions of Cross Country skiing in winter, and then a three day camp in summer. This trip allowed for the students to arrive at Telephone Box Junction (minus the snow) and ramble their way to Razorback Hut where they enjoyed their lunch, a warm fire, and some play with their friends. They then continued their exploration via the Hut Loop and headed to Kings Saddle (another slope to explore minus the snow they will find next time they visit), before finalising their loop with a walk back to Telephone Box Junction. The students were a credit to the school and their parents, and the hills rang with the sound of their chants and songs as they made the most of their amazing location.

Division Sports Netball

On Friday the 19th of May, girls' team 2 hopped on a bus to Shepperton, along with the rest of the Mansfield Primary Division sports participants. Once everybody arrived, the girls' team 2 headed off with Ms. Robbo to warm up and hand out positions for the first game of the day. Everyone was very eager to get on the court. They all gave 100% in every game, staying on their players and getting the ball to the other end, where our excellent shooters would pop the ball up into the ring. We could not have done it without our incredible defenders getting every rebound and our amazing midcourt players intercepting the ball with every chance they got! Everyone was extremely proud of the few players in the team who were new to netball but still played like pros! Even though it was tiring, everyone played their hardest and by the end of the day we won four out of five games, and it was time to relax on the bus ride back to school. It was such a fun day and thank you to everyone who made it work!
