Drummoyne Public School

Term 3 Week 10 Newsletter - Friday 26 September 2025

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Dear Drummoyne PS Community,

Celebrating Student Performance Opportunities; ‘The Monties’ and ‘Primary Proms’

This week has been a wonderful celebration of creativity, talent and community spirit at Drummoyne. On Tuesday and Thursday, our school came together for The Monties, a series of performances that showcased the imagination, confidence and hard work of our students (and staff!). It was a joy to see families and staff gathering to support and celebrate our students – a reminder of how powerful it is when our community wraps around our children and shares in their successes.

Adding to the excitement, our Stage 2 Choir took to the stage at the Sydney Town Hall on Wednesday as part of the Primary Proms. Their performance was outstanding, and it was clear how much they enjoyed the experience of singing in such a beautiful and historic venue.

Opportunities like these are such an important part of school life. They build confidence, foster teamwork and belonging, and give students the chance to shine in ways that extend well beyond the classroom. A special thank you to all the staff involved for the time, creativity and care they put into making these memorable experiences possible.

Reflecting on Term 3

Term 3 has been a vibrant and memorable chapter in our school year. We celebrated NAIDOC Week with the Boomalli artist workshops with some of the beautiful student artworks created during these sessions are now proudly displayed on our school fence for everyone to enjoy. Education Week and Book Week brought our community together to celebrate learning and the joy of reading, and of course, our spring fete was a true highlight – a wonderful day of connection, fun and fundraising for our school. Our performances were a fitting way to bring the term to a close, celebrating the creativity, collaboration and sense of community that make our school so special.

Exciting Times Ahead in Term 4

As we head into Term 4, I’m looking forward to everything this final stretch has to offer – we have many excursions and special events planned, celebrations of learning and, of course, we will be celebrating and farewelling our Year 6 students as they prepare for their next step into high school. It promises to be a term filled with achievement, celebration and plenty of memorable moments for our whole school community.

I hope you are all able to enjoy some family time over the break and I look forward to welcoming our students back to school on Tuesday 14th October.

Regards,

John Nguyen

THIS WEEK AT DPS

Primary Proms Concert at the Town Hall

Stage 2 have performances coming out of their ears this week! I hope students and families in attendance at Wednesday night's Primary Proms concert enjoyed it as much as I did. From the choir's incredible rendition of our 11 song repertoire, to Leilani from Moorefield Girls High's haunting version of Wildflower to the acapella group, strings ensemble and the stage band bringing the funk. What a night!

Thanks to the students for coming to rehearsals every week and practising the songs at home. Next - opening the extravaganza that is also known as 'Monty's'. Well done singers!! Mrs Skontos and I are so proud of your efforts. Have a well earned holiday and we will see you next term to continue our singing journey.

Brainstorm Productions

Schools play a pivotal role in nurturing student wellbeing and resilience, but it can be challenging to navigate complex and often sensitive issues like bullying, online safety and mental health in the classroom.

Today, Brainstorm Productions, delivered two live theatre performances called The Protectors : one to our K-2 students and the other to our 3-6 students. Theatre in education is grounded in Social Cognitive Theory which tells us that young people learn by observing others. Live theatre gives students the chance to watch positive and negative behaviours play out in real time and reflect on the choices characters make. When students see characters facing challenges that mirror their own world, the content is more likely to stick.

We hope that these performances sparked your child's curiosity, inspired them to ask questions and opened the door to deeper conversations about bullying, cyber safety and mental health with us and/or you and/or other family members. Please take a moment during the holidays to check in about the performance they watched today.

    MONTY’S MUNCH CANTEEN NEWS

    Dear Parents & Carers,

Thank you to parent volunteers Leanne, Ian and Esme.

Next term Anna & Sivine will take over running the canteen. Anna owned and operated Pelican Pizza at The Entrance for many years as well as working with her son in his restaurant. Sivine and her daughter have written a cookbook called SOFRA and have a website called Sunday Kitchen. Both have grandchildren attending the school. Both ladies are awesome cooks, friendly and welcoming! They will need DPS community support as they settle into the canteen. Your support and warm welcome will be very much appreciated.

I have been at the school since 2006. Firstly as a parent, volunteering while my boys attended the school and finally working in the canteen. I can’t believe the time has gone so quickly.

I would like to thank all the volunteers for their help throughout these seven years . It’s been a pleasure to work alongside you and have enjoyed many conversations and laughs. I have been most grateful for help and company in the kitchen. I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing and talking with the students throughout the years. Some I have seen students attend Drummoyne from Kindy all the way to Year 6.

To all the students I wish you all the best for the future. Thank you to the teachers for their help and support with students and your kind words. Thank you to Phil for coming to my rescue when the computer wouldn’t do what I wanted it to do and fixing various things and for the many conversations we have had. Thank Evelyn, Nina, Gemma and Kirsty in the office. They have helped with the newsletter, carrying in the bread and have come to my rescue when I haven’t had a volunteer. Your help has been very much appreciated.

Thank you finally to the P&C Committee for giving me the opportunity to work in the canteen. I have appreciated all of your support and trust with running it.

    kind regards,

    Eugenie
