Leadership News

Message from Julie

Thanks to all of you who came to Dernancourt to vote on Saturday and purchase a Democracy Sausage. Special thanks to the fundraising team for organising the day and the crew of BBQ volunteers. Your time is much appreciated.

On Friday we celebrated Harmony Day. It was lovely to see so many students and staff dressed in orange and participating in special activities across the day.

Well-done to our year 3 and year 5 students who completed their NAPLAN assessments over the last two weeks. The assessments went smoothly and classes did their best to keep to normal routines around these assessments.

In Term 2, Amelia Travis will be taking leave to welcome her first child to her family. We wish her all the best for her new adventure. Mrs Amy Clarke and Mrs Janine Preece will be teaching in J3 for the remainder of the year.

Parent/Teacher Discussions are coming up, with the link to book a time available on Audiri. These discussions are a great way to find out how your child has settled in to the school year and to discuss their learning. Please contact your child’s class teacher with any questions.

Our next event is Sports Day on Friday and we are crossing our fingers for the sun to be shining. We are hosting a bake sale on the day, and donations are welcome. We look forward to seeing you there.

School Values Journey

School Values Journey continues...

As part of our ongoing Values journey, we’re excited to share an update with our school community. After gathering valuable feedback from our staff about what our school values look like in action, we are now turning to our students for their insights. Over the coming weeks, all children will have the chance to brainstorm and share what respect, kindness, and teamwork mean to them, and discuss how these values can be seen in the classroom, in the yard, and across different areas of our school. We look forward to hearing our students’ ideas as we work together to ensure our values are lived every day at Dernancourt School.

Dream and Lead Conference

Dream and Lead Conference

Recently, a group of our student leaders had the fantastic opportunity to attend the Dream & Lead Conference at the Adelaide Convention Centre. This one-day event was all about helping young leaders build the confidence and skills they need to make a real difference in our school and community. The students took part in lots of engaging activities, discovering their own leadership potential and learning what it takes to succeed. It was a great day that left them feeling inspired and ready to step up as leaders now and in the future.

Eco Leaders Conference

Eco Leaders Conference

On Thursday, week 6, Aadyaa, Louis, Mihinula and Shyama had the opportunity to work with neighbouring school leaders on a community project. The session involved team building activities and special guests presenting information about recycling within the community. In term 2, this group will have the opportunity to host the next conference.

Garden Club News

This enthusiastic group of children, Saisha P2, Magnus P3, Aarna P7, James P8 and Ameliah P4 recently joined the Garden Club, where they eagerly participated in various gardening activities. Together, they weeded and watered the new flowers that had been planted, ensuring the garden remains vibrant and healthy. The children also worked collaboratively to weed and clear one of the raised garden beds, before planting carrots, showing great teamwork and care for their school environment

Autism Acceptance Day

Autism Acceptance Day

At Dernancourt in 2026, we will celebrate Autism Acceptance Day by creating opportunities for all students to reflect on, understand, and value neurodiversity, fostering a culture of inclusion across our school. Throughout the morning, classes will take part in rotating activities designed to deepen understanding of Autism, neurodiversity, and inclusion. We will finish our celebration with a sparkly disco in the gym for students who wish to attend. We look forward to a wonderful day of learning and inclusion.

World's Greatest Shave

World's Greatest Shave

My son, Will hates having his hair cut. When I finally convinced him it was time to give the long locks the chop (through a mattered birds-nest mess), he replied “can I give my hair to someone who is sick and has lost theirs?”

On 31st of March, Will will be under the razor and shaving his head to support the Leukaemia Foundation and those diagnosed and living with blood cancer.

He has an ambitious target of raising $2,000. Please show your support and donate any amount you can to a great cause.

Will has prepped himself to personally respond to everyone who donates.

Thank you, Christian
