This week, we reflect on National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week, significant moments in our journey towards understanding and respecting the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. These observances remind us of the importance of acknowledging the past and working together toward a more inclusive future. I am proud to share that some of our senior students participated in the Sorry Day Bridge Walk in Batemans Bay on Monday. This was a valuable opportunity for our students to engage with the community, learn about the significance of this day, and show their commitment to reconciliation.
As we approach the end of Semester 1, I want to inform you that student reports will be presented in a slightly different format this year. This change aligns with the recent updates to the NSW Department of Education curriculum and reporting policy. These changes include a change in terminology for the A-E scale where a C grade is described as expected and to be interpreted to mean that children are meeting the required outcomes for their learning. Comments will be provided for English and mathematics and a general comment will provide an overview of your child's learning as well as information about other learning areas. Reports will be shared alongside parent-teacher interviews, scheduled for Week 10 of this term. We will provide further details on booking these interviews via School Bytes in the coming weeks. Based on feedback from parents at our recent P&C meeting, we will send reports home with students the day before the interviews, giving you the opportunity to review them ahead of time.
I would also like to discuss our music tuition program. In the past, we offered lessons in various instruments and singing. Unfortunately, this program was put on hold during the learning-from-home period. We are excited to explore the possibility of reinitiating this program and are seeking input from our community. If you or someone you know is interested in offering music lessons at our school, please reach out. The cost of lessons will be covered by families, and we believe this would be a fantastic opportunity for our students to explore their musical talents.
As we continue to foster a positive learning environment, I want to emphasise the high expectations we have for all our students. We believe that with the right support and encouragement, every student can achieve their potential. In line with this, please find enclosed our updated student leadership procedures. We are committed to providing leadership opportunities for our students, allowing them to develop important skills and contribute positively to our school community.
Thank you for your continued support and engagement.
