NAPLAN Reports

This week we received and have sent home Naplan reports for the students in years 3, 5 and 7. These Literacy and Numeracy tests were conducted earlier in the year, in term 1. Please take time to have a look through your child’s results while keeping in mind that your child sat these tests some months ago and we expect good progress has been made since this time. Please download the link below for more information about the tests and results for parents and carers.

Student NAPLAN results are intended to be used for diagnostic purposes to support future planning – it is not valuable to use this information to compare students. Staff at Lihir International School will be reviewing all students’ NAPLAN data and this data will be used to inform planning for future learning improvement of individual students and year level cohorts.

If you have any questions regarding your child’s performance in this year’s NAPLAN assessment, please make a time to talk to your child’s class teacher.

High School Assessment Schedules

Term 3 High School assessment schedules have been sent home and emailed to parents. We ask that our High School parents monitor when assessments are due and encourage students to be prepared for exams and on-time with submitting assignment tasks.

Portfolios

A kind reminder to please return your child's portfolio if you have not already done so.

Friday Assemblies

Parents and wantoks are welcome to join us each Friday at 8.10am for our Friday assembly. This week, it was the year 1/2 assembly and next week, it will be the year 3/4 assembly.

Kind regards,

Ms Langusch.

WORK READY PROGRAM

This week two modules were presented to the WRP trainees. These modules included: ‘Time Management and Leadership.’ Managing time is very important at any workplace. The trainees were introduced to topics including the importance of time management, the relationship between time management and productivity at the workplace as well as the consequences of not managing time.

The Leadership module introduced the trainees to the different types and styles of leadership practices at different organisations, Institutions and settings. The focus of both modules was at the workplace; however, leadership is practiced in a variety of settings and trainees were encouraged to be aware of the different leaderships styles and make necessary adaptations to work as a team in any setting.

Past WRP trainees continue to come to STM on Wednesdays and Fridays to apply for the weekly job vacancies that are advertised.

FODE

FODE program has commenced for this term and students are working at their own pace with the guidance and assistance from STM staff. Mock and trial exams were administered by STM staff for students in preparation for the National Exams later this year.

Former LIS Scholarship Students who are currently doing their Grades 11 and 12 at OLSH International School in Kavieng are also in the Academic Support program. They are expected to participate in the program during their term breaks.

The Academic Support program has a specific set of activities focusing on the students’ current studies as well as information regarding Tertiary Education Institutions focusing on future Studies and career opportunities.
