Principal's Message

Dear Community

Today is P&C Day!

Our P&C are an extremely important part of our school community and work tirelessly to enhance learning experiences and opportunities for all of our students. Below are just some of the wonderful things that they do for us.

1. They plan amazing events like discos and bingo nights

2. They run a canteen service for our students

3. Their fundraising efforts mean families pay $30 instead of $60 for swimming lessons

4. They help make sure new families are welcomed into our community

5. They run our school uniform shop

6. They cover the cost of Mathletics licenses for our students each year

7. They spend an evening chopping onions before every sausage sizzle

8. They provide snazzy shirts for our choir and interschool athletes

9. They source grants and provide fundraising opportunities to support upgrades such as the library and nature play for our students

10. THEY DONATE ENDLESS AMOUNTS OF THEIR OWN TIME AND KIND HEARTS TO DO ALL OF THE ABOVE!!!

A big thank you from all the staff, students and families that make up our wonderful Scarborough PS community.

School Photos

On Wednesday, a personalised envelope for school photos was sent home with every student.

All students MUST bring their completed personalised envelopes to photo day even if they have opted not to purchase photos.

Student photo day is Wednesday 31 May for all students apart from Kindy Group 2. Sibling photos will take place in the library at 8:15 am on the 31 May. If you would like to organise a sibling photo, please request a separate envelope from the front office so we can schedule in your children.

Kindy G2 photos will be Thursday 1 June along with Year 6 graduation photos. Additional sibling photos are also available on Thursday 1 June for children in Kindy Group 2 and any students absent the previous day.

If a second personalised envelope is required for another guardian ordering photos, please contact the office and we can arrange this for you.

The last date for ordering photos at the discounted price is 8 June 2023, after this date you will be charged at standard rates.

Parking at school pick up

Unfortunately, we have had several more incidents of parents parking inappropriately on Hinderwell Street, at school pick up. This is causing safety concerns for our students. The rangers have been in attendace several times over the past fortnight and will continue to monitor the school over the next few weeks.

Tickets may be issued for people not following correct parking procedures, including double or triple parking to pick up students. Please park in the correct places to help keep our children safe.

Cyber Safety

Over the next few fortnights, there will be a focus on cyber safety in each newsletter. Cyber safety is a topic that we teach as part of our Protective Behaviours curriculum at school, however, it is helpful if these important messages are also understood and delivered at home too.

This week, we will be focussing on online games. The information and links below come from the eSafety Commissioner.

Online games can be great fun for your child, but make sure you can help them manage the risks.

Many games can improve your child’s coordination, problem-solving and multi-tasking skills, as well as help build social skills through online interactivity with other players. But it is also important to understand what might go wrong and could have a negative impact on your child.

This following links provide information for parents and carers:

As always, if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me by phone, email (sarah.dawson@education.wa.edu.au ) or in person.

Your Move Term 2 Week 4

Premier's Reading Challenge

Join the adventure!

We encourage you to join us in unlocking the wonderful world of reading for your children. Help them to join the Premier’s Reading Challenge.

Will they fly above the clouds, dive into the ocean or jump into a rocket ship?

All students from Kindergarten to Year 10 are challenged to read 12 books by September 2023.

You can help your children sign up via the website, choose their own avatar and log all the books they read over the course of the Challenge.

Weekly prizes will be awarded to students who log a book that week, with major prizes drawn when the challenge ends.

Books don’t have to be in English – children are encouraged to read books in their first language.

There are extraordinary tourism prizes to be won each week.

You can sign up your children via the Premiers Reading Challenge website: https://www.premiersreadingchallenge.wa.edu.au

Congratulations Max

Congratulations to Max in Year 4 who won a silver medal in the 50m backstroke for 9 year old boys at the Swimming State Championships held during the school holidays.

What a fabulous achievement.

P&C News

Hello SPS families!

We hope you all had a great Mothers’ Day last weekend and enjoyed receiving the plates your children designed. This was a very successful fundraiser, and we are already looking to see what other similar projects we could do next year. Our Mothers’ Day raffle made the day of 3 lucky recipients even better. Congratulations to Anna, Anne and Greta for winning our raffles. A huge thank you to everybody who helped sell tickets, make the hampers and those who bought tickets.

We are in the early stages of organising a quiz night at Grill’d Scarborough on a Wednesday night in Term 3. If you would like to be on the organising committee, please send us an email, or talk to a P&C member.

The P&C funded Interschool Polo Shirts have arrived and look wonderful. Thank you to Mrs Dawson and the staff for their consultation on the design. The shirts will hopefully have their debut later this term for the Winter Sports Carnival. In the meantime, please see some of our Year 1 students modelling them, we especially love the sunset and waves on the back!
