Principal's Message

Welcome to 2024 and a brand-new era at Lambton Public School!

What a busy first week we have had - settling into new classes with new teachers, meeting new people and learning all sorts of challenging new topics. On behalf of my family and me, THANK YOU for the genuine warmth and welcome from the Lambton PS school community. My family and I have relocated from Inverell in the New England area of NSW and have quickly found ourselves exhausted from the sheer volume of exciting and relaxing opportunities the Newcastle region offers. My background in education is a varied one. I have been an executive in the private school sector and led four schools (two primary schools, one K-12 school, and a high school) as principal.

I have been out and about in classrooms and common areas, meeting all the incredible students and families throughout the day. I can see the quality of the learning environment at LPS. The teaching, executive, and support staff are highly experienced and dedicated. Thank you so very much for all the messages and letters of welcome!

The following newsletter has a significant amount of information. Please carefully note down or file this newsletter for future reference. One of the first changes I will make is moving our communication into the social media space. Our school will not prepare and distribute a weekly newsletter. However, it will instead use social media to provide our community with a veritable feast celebrating learning at our school.

I firmly believe in the school being a hub in the community, and as such, I hope to reinvigorate community visits and support within our school. To do this, I ask for anyone interested in working with us to make contact with the office to put forward any ideas and opportunities that we can access to continue immersing our students and staff in cultural understanding, learning new skills, reading, numeracy, scientific research, sports and the arts.

This year, we are undertaking an External Validation process to gauge where our school sits concerning the School Excellence Framework. This evaluation will include surveys and meetings offered to the school community. With your assistance, we can ascertain areas we are working well in and areas we can improve. Once this process is complete (part way through Term 2), we move into an exciting phase of formulating a new school plan to transform our school into a beacon of high-quality education supported by a comprehensively involved community. To achieve the utmost for our students, we need you invested and your perception of our school to be outstanding.

Many opportunities are on the horizon for our school, and strategically targeting these will not just come from my team - Lambton PS is the community's school. It has a long history of collaboration and pride in all of our school's achievements.

Kind regards,

Ben Delanty

New School Uniform – prices to be subsidised

Our school uniform changes have been in the planning for the past few years and the time has finally arrived for the transition to the new school uniform. We are aware that some of our families may find the changes cost prohibitive as this change comes into effect from the beginning of the school year.

In an effort to reduce the costs of uniforms, we would like to subsidise the regular pricing as follows for the remainder of 2024:

Uniform ItemRegular PriceSubsidised Price
Polo Shirt$27.00$15.00
Skort$23.50$15.00
Shorts$23.00$15.00
Hat (available from school office)$18.00$10.00

The School Locker website will still display the full retail prices. To purchase uniform items at the subsidised prices, families will need to purchase items instore. School Locker staff are aware of the subsidised prices and families will be charged the discounted prices when they visit their store. The School Locker are unable to take credit card payments over the phone meaning phone orders are unavailable.

Our new uniform provides an opportunity to demonstrate how proud we are of our school and we strongly encourage all students to be in full school uniform every day.

If, you are in need of further assistance or have any questions regarding our uniforms please contact the office to discuss an alternative solution.

Availability of stock - Our uniform provider has advised they have limited stock of many items with new stock arriving towards the end of March. Families are encouraged to call the store to check on stock availability prior to heading to the store.   To contact number for the Newcastle store is 0418 588 494

Exiting Procedures

Last week we trialled students exiting the school directly from classrooms. School gates will remain locked as in the past and students have been instructed to move directly to the gate they use to exit the school and wait for a member of staff to arrive to open/unlock the gate.

  • K/6S staff will continue to lead students to exit points
  • Students exiting via Kiss and Drop will meet Mrs Webb under the top COLA at 3:00 pm
  • Students attending OOSH will continue to meet OOSH staff at Stage 3 eating tables

Parents and carers can now expect to meet their children at the gate and/or Kiss and Drop closer to  3:00 pm.

Kindergarten 2024

We look forward to welcoming our 2024 Kindergarten students and their families tomorrow morning. Parents and carers are asked to bring their child/ren to school and meet our Kindergarten teachers under the canteen COLA at 8:55am.

At 9:00am, the teachers will assist you with saying goodbye and leading the students off to the classroom to start Day 1 of their school journey.

For the first two weeks, we have scheduled a slightly earlier finish then usual to help the children adjust to the school pace and routine. Please collect your child/ren from the same canteen cola at 2:30pm up until Friday 16th February (unless they are enrolled in OOSH).

Swimming Carnival 2024

Our 2024 Swimming Carnival for all students in Years 3 – 6 in 2024 will be held at the Forum Aquatic Centre, Newcastle University on Friday 16 February 2023. The carnival is primarily for students in Years 3 – 6, however if your child will be in Year 2 next year and turns 8 in 2024, they may be eligible to attend.

Welcome back to school from Lambton Public School Breakfast Club.

Breakfast Club aims to provide some toast and fruit to any LPS student needing some food before school starts. The club operates in the canteen from 8:30am until the start of school. This is possible due to our keen volunteers and our generous sponsors. A big thanks goes to Jesmond Fruit Barn, Bakers Delight Jesmond and SPAR Lambton.

We started the same day as the students this year and will operate every school day, including those days like Swimming Carnival and Special Event Days.  Come and say hi and get some toast from our friendly volunteers.

Student Achievement

Congratulations to Quinlan B and Eva T who represented Newcastle Hunter Hurricanes at The Australian Waterpolo Youth Championships held in Brisbane during  January.  They were amazing and so determined with Quinlan's team placing 5th and Eva's 3rd (and getting bronze!)in Australia.  Well done Quinlan & Eva.
