RPS BAND NEWS
Week one saw the electric piano in the band room receive some much needed attention with all the piano keys now replaced. At Monday's assembly the RPS junior & senior band gave a thoroughly enjoyable performance of Katie Perry's "Firework" and Train's "Hey, Soul Sister" despite less than a week of rehearsal time. Amazing turnaround! Well done to all the students involved and of course to Helen for her dedication in bringing it all together.
Last Wednesday marked the inaugural rehearsal session for our 2024 Training Band. Helen's feedback was that attendance was good, everyone was well behaved and confidence levels were high! Hopefully they will be ready to perform at assembly themselves in the not-too-distant future. Next performances for our Junior & Senior bands are as follows:
- Week 4 - 2:15PM Monday 20 May Assembly - Junior/Senior Band
- Week 8 - 2:15PM Monday 17 June Assembly - Junior/Senior Band

K-2 PERCUSSION GROUP
Bruce Stephens uses the standard music notation to teach basic composition, using a range of percussion instruments involving a mix of drums, drumsticks and boom whackers.
The goal of the class is for the children to have fun and enjoy making music! It also prepares them to play later in a band, exposing them to great music beats and encourages them to learn to play as a group. K-2 Percussion Group is held on Friday lunchtimes in the band room next to the Tiger Turf. Cost is $160 per term. If your child is in Years K-2 and interested in joining percussion group next term, please contact matthew.roe3@det.nsw.edu.au
RPS STRINGS PROGRAMTanya Swinton is now running our strings program. Tanya is currently studying at the Sydney Con and is a very accomplished musician. We have limited openings for those wishing to take lessons with Tanya during school hours, but with plans to expand availability and restart the RPS Strings Ensemble before too long.
