Welcome to the final edition of our school newsletter for 2024. As the saying goes, “time flies when you are having fun!”.
Since our last newsletter, we have had West Coast Eagle football clinics; Clontarf awards night, Stars Foundation end of year awards ceremony, and a visit from one of the Year 7 teachers from NSHS together with four of our wonderful ex NPS students. A great deal of information was given to the students and they, in return had the opportunity to ask any questions about NSHS and how the days are scheduled.
Recently, we were very privileged to have many of our students nominate themselves for the Student Leadership team for 2025. Congratulations to all students who stood up and delivered speeches so confidently in front of your peers, teachers, and members of the community. The 2025 Student Leadership team will be announced at our End of Year Concert in week 9. Every student should be very proud of their efforts. I know I was super impressed. Congratulations to you all. As we know, not everyone will be elected. Parents, please have these conversations with your child/children now and leading up to our concert night.
Last week we had our Kindergarten Parent information session for our new intake of students. Thank you to all who took the time to come along. A special thank you to all our special guest speakers for giving up your time and speaking to our future NPS families.
Our Year 6 students have had 2 full orientation days at NSHS. This was a fabulous way for the students to learn how to navigate themselves around the high school grounds, mix with students from SNPS and experience the daily life of high school student. A massive thankyou to the high school for providing this opportunity for our students. From all reports, the students are saying that high school was awesome.
The new incoming Kindergarten students have had the opportunity to come along to school this week to visit their classroom for 2025 and have a little play! The rooms were buzzing……
Next week, Thursday 5 December, commencing at 6:30pm will be hosting our whole school K-6 end of year concert "Around the World". Should the weather be unkind to us, we will reschedule the concert to Friday 6 December, commencing at 8:30am. All book award winners from PP – Year 5, and the Student Leadership Team for 2025 will be announced on the night.
Tuesday 10 December, commencing at 9:00am is the Year 6 Graduation Ceremony. Year 6 students will receive their awards on this day, not at the end of year concert. Following the ceremony, Graduates and their parents/carers will be invited to join in the school library for a small celebration. Following the celebration, Year 6 students will have a fun day at Newman Aquatic Centre. We look forward to celebrating our Year 6 students!
Next year, we will be introducing Auslan as our Language program at NPS. All Pre-Primary – Year 6 students will be taking part. Lesson plans, videos and resources will be provided by the Auslan Education Services. This will be delivered weekly by the classroom teachers. A very exciting change and introduction for our school!
We are expecting the delivery of pre-ordered booklists to arrive on Tuesday 3 December 2024. Information will be communicated via NPS Facebook page once these have arrived and are ready for collection.
Class lists for 2025: Student class lists will be posted up on the school notice board near the canteen on Monday 3 February 2025. These lists can be viewed from 1:00pm onwards on this day. This will enable to Administration staff to make changes and adjustments as necessary with movement over the Christmas period.
We have many of our wonderful teachers leaving NPS at the end of this year. I cannot thank them enough for their time and dedication to the students and school. We have developed some amazing leaders. Good luck and all the very best as you take the next step in your teaching careers. You will be missed. Congratulations to you all on your new appointments. Your new schools are very lucky to have you. Miss Goodfield, Mr Hammond, Ms O’Neill, Mr Chappelow, Miss Cook and Mrs Harris.
We also farewell our gardener, Dean Wainright. Dean and his family are moving back home. Thanks for keeping our grounds in shape and all the handyman jobs completed.
I would also like to sincerely thank our School Board Chair – Shevaun Cottrell and the amazing board members for your continued support throughout the year.
Finally, a massive thank you to Brooke Wilson, P&C President and all the members of the P&C committee. It has been a very busy and productive year. I cannot wait to see what 2025 has in stall for NPS students!
It is the time of year for some families to leave our school community. I am confident that you will take many great memories of Newman Primary School with you - good luck wherever you are going.
On behalf of the staff, I would like to wish everyone safe travels, an enjoyable break, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to seeing all students on Wednesday 5 February 2025, to commence the new school year!
