Message from the Principal

I am delighted to share with you the strong, high-quality classroom learning that continues to take place across our school. Every day, our teachers and students are engaged in purposeful, rigorous learning that builds confidence, deep understanding, and a genuine love of learning.

One area of particular strength is our approach to spelling and reading. We have implemented a structured, phonemic-based approach that ensures students develop a solid foundation in decoding, fluency, and comprehension. This systematic method allows students to gain confidence as readers and writers, while also ensuring no gaps in essential skills are overlooked. Importantly, student progress is carefully tracked and benchmarked across year levels. This enables teachers to tailor instruction to meet individual needs and ensure every learner is making strong and sustained progress.

To further strengthen our academic standards, we are currently conducting PAT (Progressive Achievement Tests) across the school. These assessments provide an additional layer of data, allowing us to measure student achievement against international benchmarks. The insights gained from PAT testing support our teachers in refining their practice and ensure that we continue to maintain high standards aligned with global expectations.

Embedding quality in teaching practice is also a key priority. Our work is supported by the IEA Teacher Appraisal Program, which promotes continuous professional growth through reflection and feedback. As part of this process, classroom observations are currently being conducted by Mr Sowter. These observations provide valuable opportunities to celebrate effective teaching while also identifying areas for further development. This ongoing cycle of improvement ensures that our students benefit from the very best instructional practices.

Beyond the classroom, it is great to see our students actively preparing for one of the highlights of our school calendar. I invite all families to attend the LIS “Got Talent” Show, which will be held next Thursday at 6:00pm in the Secondary Campus Hall. This special event is part of our 50th Anniversary of the IEA and promises to be an entertaining evening showcasing the creativity, confidence, and talent of our students. The level of enthusiasm and preparation from those involved has been outstanding, and we are certain it will be a memorable occasion for our entire community.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support of our school.

Success Starts Here!

Deputy Principal's Notices

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

As we move into Week 7 of our eight-week term, we are looking ahead to an exciting and celebratory week for our school community, as we celebrate the IEA’s 50th Anniversary with our LIS Got Talent event on Thursday. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to demonstrate the wide range of talents they possess while also celebrating the diversity that makes our school community so unique. We look forward to seeing many of you there in support of our students.

Teachers will continue to deliver the curriculum right through to the final day of term, Friday 5 June. We kindly ask that all students maintain consistent attendance to ensure they do not miss out on valuable learning experiences during this important period.

Report cards will be distributed in hard copy on Friday 5 June. We encourage families to take the time to review and celebrate their child’s progress and achievements.

We are also pleased to share that the results from the second round of Year 12 mock examinations indicate a positive trend in student growth. It is very encouraging to see our Year 12 students extending themselves and striving for excellence as they approach this critical stage of their education.

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and sincerely thank our dedicated staff for their ongoing commitment. Their hard work in providing high-quality learning experiences, alongside their mentorship and support, plays a vital role in keeping students motivated and focused during this strategically important phase.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Warm regards,

Mr Stephen Sowter

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Last week, our Grade 5 and 6 students participated in an engaging STEM activity day on Friday, followed by an exciting sleepover at the secondary campus boarding house. It was a fun and memorable experience for everyone involved. We would like to extend our special thanks to Ms. Tago and Ms. Irung for their excellent planning and coordination of this successful event.

This week also included a lockdown drill conducted on Monday. We are pleased to report that the practice went smoothly and that students responded well.

Students undertook the PAT Maths assessments this week. Those who were unable to complete the test will be rescheduled for next week. We look forward to seeing some excellent results.

Our Friday assembly was hosted by 2MK. Thank you to 2MK for the wonderful presentation of your learning. Congratulations also to all our award recipients for demonstrating the qualities of ethical learners.

Next week, on Thursday 28 May, we will be holding the LIS Got Talent Show. Please save the date and join us at the secondary campus for what promises to be an enjoyable evening showcasing the many talents within our school. Further details about the programme will be shared in the coming days.

ECA activities will conclude next week. We thank both our internal and external facilitators for their dedication and support. Parents are kindly reminded to settle any outstanding fees directly with the facilitators.

Normal lessons will continue until the final day of school, which is Friday 5 June.

Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable weekend.
