A FEW WORDS FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear families,

Firstly, today is World Teachers' Day. It’s an opportunity to acknowledge our teachers here at Hallett Cove East. Thank you for your commitment to learning and wellbeing of our students, shaping young lives on a daily basis. The world is a better place because of the work of our dedicated teachers. Thank you!

Site Improvement Planning

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, teams of teachers have recently been released from classrooms to review our Site Improvement Priorities for 2024 and begin planning our next steps in our school’s improvement journey.

During the review process, teachers evaluated the effectiveness of our current improvement initiatives and strategies in literacy, numeracy and wellbeing. These conversations are extremely valuable to our school improvement as we are able to delve deeply into:

  • Progress made with what we set out to accomplish in 2024
  • What our school is doing well
  • Where the opportunities exist for 2025 to build on our shared work.

Based on this valuable staff feedback, we have begun formulating key areas of focus for 2025 and beyond. Our school will continue to focus on developing effective learners through high quality teaching and learning practices that best support our students. Teams of staff working together on whole school improvement, fosters a sense of shared responsibility but also encourages the exchange of ideas and strategies, ultimately benefiting our students.

We are excited about the direction our school is heading as we refine our improvement priorities. Stay tuned for updates on our progress and the positive changes to come. We will be providing a comprehensive review of our findings to Governing Council at our upcoming meeting.

Moderation for Semester Two Reports

In coming weeks, class teachers will also be meeting together in teaching teams to moderate student learning across semester two in preparation for end of year student reports. Teachers will consider student work samples, learning data from assessments and classroom observations to form an on-balance judgement of student achievement. Consistent assessment practices through moderation helps ensure that all student learning is evaluated fairly and equitably. When teachers collaborate, they align their assessment criteria, share best practices in assessment, and thoroughly discuss student progress. This collective effort not only enhances the reliability of assessments but also promotes a shared understanding of classroom learning aligned with the Australian Curriculum.

Behaviour Support Policy

At our last Governing Council meeting, our school’s Behaviour Support Policy was approved. Our updated policy describes the behaviour we expect of students at Hallett Cove East Primary School and the way we will support positive student behaviour choices. Our policy also describes how we will intervene and respond to unsafe behaviours and repair relationships that have been harmed. Our staff and governing council has spent significant time ensuring that our policy is compliant with department requirements and the expectations of our school community for a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for everyone.

Visiting Educators

This week, our school had the privilege of hosting Educators from Local Education Offices, where we were invited to share our improvement story, aligning our past and current work to the Public Education strategy. We were able to share the work our school has done so far and our possible next steps. Some of our teachers were also able to share their brilliant work on effective learners in classrooms. This is great acknowledgement for our whole school, in particular the fantastic work that is occurring in classrooms every day at Hallett Cove East.

With regards

Matthew Chapman

Principal

A FEW WORDS FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL

Dear HCEPS community,

As term 4 has commenced we have hit the ground running with staff engaging in PD opportunities and exciting upcoming events,

Staff meeting: PAT data analysis

During a recent staff meeting teachers came together to analyze Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT) data for reading, spelling and mathematics. This collaborative session aimed to enhance teaching strategies and support student learning through data-informed decision-making.

Teachers worked in small groups to discuss the data trends, identifying strengths and areas for improvement. This focused analysis not only allowed educators to share their observations but also encouraged dialogue on effective practices that have led to student success.

The focus on PAT data not only supports academic excellence but also cultivates a culture of collaboration and innovation within Hallett Cove East Primary School. As the school community continues to embrace data-informed practices, students are sure to benefit from enhanced learning experiences tailored to their unique needs.

Teachers will continue to engage with PAT data, monitoring progress and adapting their approaches to ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive.
