We are very excited to embark on a new journey of supporting our students’ sensory needs, with Reynella’s very own, sensory room. The aim of the sensory room and the tools within, is to support dysregulated students and equip them with strategies, knowledge and a place to go to aid in self and co-regulation. Student vocabulary around their feelings and emotional state will be developed through the use of common language, guided by the Zones of Regulation. We are very excited to see this space develop and expand its reach to support a wide range of learners at Reynella Primary School.
It is hard to believe it is already week 6, a long weekend beckons and Easter is just around the corner. There have been so many exciting learning adventures happening around our school; it has been great to observe the pride in which students share their learning. We have recently updated our school vision, with input from Governing Council, staff and students. This statement underpins our approach to teaching and learning across our site.
OUR VISION:
Cultivating a community of powerful learners who are curious, creative and collaborative; well equipped to think flexibly and take their place as active global citizens in an ever-changing world.
The Department for Education’s new purpose for education, that is centred on students and children learning and thriving, has identified 4 Areas of Impact and accompanying resources to help sites, staff and learners explore and engage with the strategy for public education.
One of the strengths of our school is undoubtedly the ability of our students to articulate their learning. Effective Learners has been an area Reynella PS has been building on over several years. It was one of my proudest moments when I had the opportunity to speak at the recent Department for Education Leaders’ Day 2024 and share our journey and how we have developed effective learners at our site.
As partners in your child's educational journey, it's crucial for us to foster not just academic success, but also the development of essential skills that enable lifelong learning. In today's fast-paced world, being an effective learner goes beyond simply memorizing facts; it involves a multifaceted approach that encompasses curiosity, creativity, metacognition, self-regulation, meaning-making, and strategic awareness.
o Curiosity: Learners ask questions to ‘get to the bottom of it’ and are less accepting of received wisdom until it is evidenced.
o Creativity: Learners think ‘outside the box’, take chances, use imagination and intuition and are receptive to hunches and inklings.
o Meaning making: Learners make connections between past information and/or experiences and new knowledge.
o Strategic awareness: Learners know what to do when they don’t know what to do.
o Metacognition and self-regulation: Learners who can stop and think about what’s needed to best achieve the task in front of them. Learners are able to understand and manage their behaviour and reactions to their environment
By nurturing these qualities in your child, you're not only preparing them for academic success but also for a lifetime of learning and growth. Together, let's empower our children to become curious, creative, and resilient individuals who are capable of thriving in an ever-changing world.
SCHOOL INTERVIEWS
These will be held commencing Monday March 25, week 9 through to Friday April 5, week 10. Please look out for separate note being sent out on Audiri to schedule your interview time.
TRAFFIC IN AND AROUND OUR SCHOOL
As we all know, the safety and well-being of our children is paramount. Every day, we entrust our precious little ones into the care of schools, where they embark on a journey of learning and growth. However, it's crucial to recognize that the safety of our children extends beyond the school gates, especially during drop-off and pick-up times.
We've all experienced the hustle and bustle of school drop-offs and pick-ups. The rush of cars, the flurry of activity, and the inevitable time crunch can create a stressful environment for everyone involved. Amidst this chaos, it's easy to overlook the importance of caution. Being mindful of traffic rules, designated drop-off zones, and pedestrian crossings is essential to prevent accidents. We encourage all parents and carers to use the school crossing when needing to cross Concord Drive.
As parents, guardians, and caregivers, we play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our children, not only within the confines of the school but also in the surrounding areas. Let's approach these moments with mindfulness, patience, and consideration, prioritizing the safety and happiness of our precious children.
NEW LAWS REGARDING SMOKING AND VAPING
From 1 March 2024 new regulations will extend the smoke-free and vape-free areas to within 10 metres of site boundaries. This includes:
· school drop-off and pick-up zones that are within 10 metres of the school fence, gate or boundary
· school ovals and sporting fields and within 10 metres of the boundary of the oval or sporting field
· footpaths, roads, public nature strips and public recreation areas that are within 10 metres of a school boundary.
