Dear Drummoyne PS Community,
Semester One Reports
Reading and discussing reports with your child/ren can evoke a range of emotions for both you and your child/ren. While it is natural to be invested in, and sometimes feel anxious about, the outcomes, it's crucial that we approach these reports with a constructive mindset.
With this in mind, I wanted to take a moment to share a are a few tips to help manage expectations and emotions:
- Focus on Growth: Emphasise your child's progress and the effort they have put in over the term. Celebrate their achievements and acknowledge areas where they have shown improvement.
- Constructive Conversations: When discussing the report with your child, focus on constructive feedback. Highlight strengths first and then talk about areas that need improvement in a supportive and encouraging manner.
- Set Realistic Goals: Use the report as a tool to set realistic and achievable goals for the next term. This helps in creating a positive and proactive approach to learning.
- Model Positive Attitudes: Children often mirror our attitudes and reactions. By staying calm and positive, you help your child feel more secure and less anxious about their performance.
- Avoid Comparisons: Every child is unique and develops at their own pace. Avoid comparing your child’s performance to that of their peers or siblings, as this can lead to unnecessary stress and feelings of inadequacy.
- Open Communication: If you have concerns or need clarification about your child's report, do not hesitate to reach out to their teacher. Open communication can provide insights and strategies to support your child’s learning journey.
Remember, student reports are just one piece of the puzzle. They provide a snapshot of your child’s academic performance but do not define their potential or capabilities.
P&C Trivia Night
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our organising committee, Emilie, Tanya and Belle, for organising such a fun and well-run trivia night. The event was a tremendous success, filled with laughter, friendly competition and community spirit. It was wonderful to see so many families, and some of our teachers, coming together. A big thank you also to MC Adam (and his partner in crime, Nicole) for leading the night’s frivolities - your positive energy was truly infectious!
Students Performing & Representing - Musicians, Choristers & Public Speakers
I have been fortunate enough, this week, to attend a number of events where our students have the opportunity to showcase their skills and talents to the wider community. I was very happy to see that so many of our students are taking advantage of the opportunities available to them at our school and particularly proud to see them excel. Well done to our Junior and Senior bands, who performed at the Soiree on Monday evening; our Stage 2 and Stage 3 choirs, who blew us all away with their performances at our 3-6 Assembly; and to Ivy, Ryan, Aleks and Ayden, who attended the regional finals for the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition.
Stage 3 Camps
As I write this, our Stage students are on their way back from Canberra and Bathurst after an enriching, informative and fun-filled three days away. We will be sure to include a few recounts of their adventures in next week’s newsletter.
Parent-Teacher Interviews
I look forward to welcoming many of you to school for your parent-teacher interview/s next week. I am glad to see that so many of you have taken the opportunity to book in a time to meet with your child/ren’s teacher/s.
Regards,
John Nguyen
Principal
