Term 3 Weeks 9 & 10: 11th - 22nd September 2023

Principal's Blog

Welcome to Week 10 Term 3 Caves Beach Public School for 2023!

How quickly has this term flown?

Throughout Term 3 the Department of Education has undertaken a large amount of planned maintenance works at our school. During the school holidays these works will continue with asbestos removal, new carpet and painting in the library. To provide consistency, we have decided to complete some areas, not include in the works, using school funding. These painting and carpeting jobs will be completed during Term 4.

Make My Day

Today I was thrilled to have a visit from Aiden from K6R. Aiden was very excited to share with me his writing. Well done, Aiden you’re a star!

School Disco

Yesterday we held our first day disco and it was a huge success! We were so pleased to see everyone included as we were celebrating all the hard work of our students this term. Thank you, Mrs McLean and Year 6 students, for your organisation and work on the day.

Kindergarten Transition

Next term we will be welcoming our new Kindergarten students back to our school for Kindergarten Transition. Last term we met our new students during our Kinder Play Group sessions. We thank parents for bringing their children along as we have had excellent feedback. Next term we kick off with a Parent Information Evening Tuesday 10th Oct, followed by a parent and student session on 24th Oct then two further student sessions on 7th and 21st Nov. We finish with a Teddy Bears Picnic on Tuesday 29th Nov.

As the term ends, I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday and look forward to an amazing Term 4.

Another strength you can grow is CREATIVITY.

Being creative means to think of new ways to do things in the

classroom, on the playground or at home.

When we show CREATIVITY we use our ELEPHANT and WISE OWL. This strength is important for our mental health because it helps us find our state of ‘flow’.

      You can display CREATIVITY by:

thinking of multiple ways to solve a problem

making up interesting games and exploring different ways to play them

writing or drawing something that is unique, just like you

starting a new creative activity like singing in the choir, playing a musical instrument or performing in drama

"Creativity doesn't wait for that perfect moment. It creates its own

perfect moments out of ordinary ones."

Excursions

The end of Term 3 has been busy with all years participating in excursions.

Kindergarten and Support - Oakvale Farm

Students in Kindy and the Support Unit enjoyed a fun packed day at Oakvale Farm. A day filled with sunshine, we enjoyed a tractor ride around the farm, bottle fed hungry lambs and goats, patted some furry and slippery creatures and hand fed kangaroos, goats, sheep, alpacas and even a giraffe!

Our highlight of the day was when a goat jumped behind the wheel in the driver’s seat on the tractor! Here are some fun photos for you to enjoy!

Years 1 & 2 - Reptile Park

Last week our Stage 1 classes and K6D visited the Australian Reptile Park. The students had a fantastic time learning about all the animals in the park and in particular getting up close and personal with some reptiles during the 'lively life cycles' show.

Year 4 - Blue Mountains

Students had a great first day at the Blue Mountains They visited Scenic World and went on the Cox Road tour. After dinner the students went on a night walk to view the Katoomba Falls lit up at night.

On the second day, Year 4 visited Blackheath Heritage Centre for an informative and entertaining presentation, followed by a tour of the Hartley Historical Village to learn about the colonial history of the area.

Year 6 - Canberra

Year 6 arrived safely yesterday and enjoyed a fantastic day visiting Mount Ainslie, Regatta Point, CSIRO and Questacon.

Day 2- We had another fabulous day visiting Old Parliament House, Australian War Memorial, Parliament House and the AIS. Year 6 were excited to see Anthony Albanese and have an in depth Q&A with Pat Conroy. Pat told us that the students’ questions were the best in 10 years. They were all impressed with our amazing students.

Year 6 Excursion

Students from Year 6 recently visited Canberra and completed an educational tour of our national capital. They engaged in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital, as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion, the Australian Government contributed $30 in funding per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program. The rebate is paid directly to the school and assisted in subsidising the overall cost.

Tip 4 - Eating for a Healthy Mind

Use a bento style lunch box to pack a healthy zero waste lunch without using any zip lock bags or plastic food wrap. Using a stackable lunch box and individual containers will keep wet and dry food separate. Using a reusable food pouch will keep your wrap and sandwiches. Did you know that reusable beeswax wrap can be cleaned easily?

Healthy eating in childhood may reduce your health problems as children get older. Discover more tips for healthy eating and a healthy mind.
