Reflection

Lord, you have given skills and talents to each of us, and you are pleased when we use them well. I ask that I may work well with others and bring out the best in them as well as in myself. Lead me to live in such a way that I show appreciation for the achievements of all who use their talents well. Amen.

Learning and Teaching

Legoland

Students certainly enjoyed the Legoland excursions. Congratulations to our students; they were great ambassadors for our school. Many thanks to the staff for their sterling efforts at Chadstone.

Here are some student reflections:

VICTORIA M

On Friday I went to Legoland. We went with F/1 and 2/3 and teachers. We got there by bus.

SOPHIA N

On Friday I went to Legoland with F/1 and 2/3 and we went on a bus. We made lots of Lego things, and on the bus we had partners. My partner was Jonathan. We went through the shopping centre. My favourite part was when we made stories out of Lego.

NED M

On Friday I went to Legoland. It was outstanding. We made lots of Lego. We went into groups. There was Mrs Browne's group, Mrs Redmond and Mrs Galea. I was in Mrs Redmond’s group. We went on a Lego ride. There was also a Lego car and ramps. It was a lot of fun.

SASHA B

Last Friday I went to Legoland. I had lots of fun there and I made lots of structures and put them together to make an apartment. We also watched a movie  and we also got some 4D glasses and then we went back to school.

WILLIAM R

Hi my name is William. Some of the things I did at Legoland were adventure rides, watch a 4D movie, and complete a lego class. In the lego class we made spinners using lego blocks. The purpose was to release the spring top and see how long it stays spinning. We were observing which side would spin for longer, the side that had the shorter axle or the one that had the longer axle. We discovered that the shorter axle allowed the lego spinner to go for longer. At the adventure  playground we played tag. We watched lego ninjago and my favorite bit was when the special effects were sprayed with water or when they made the room smell like scrambled rocks (that smelled gross). But overall I thought that the best bit was the movie.

SEBASTIAN T

Hello my name is Sebastian

What I liked most about Legoland was the movie and the soft play center. The movie we watched was called Lego Ninjargo and the special effects in the cinema were a highlight. In the soft play center my group built a giant lego design and ran through the maze. Miles, Jarvis, Eli and Freddie built a massive structure in the soft play center, which i liked

THOMAS D

Last Thursday the grade 4, 5 and 6 students went to legoland. We learnt about how to code a robot with some technical  difficulties. Then we split up into 4 groups. After this we had some food.

Then we played some games like this lego shooter ride where you shoot the lego spiders and bats rocks and chests and skeleton trolls.

The final thing of the day was tag. We played this game on the playground area and it was very challenging because there were a lot of obstacles to move around and hide behind.

I had a great time.

EMILIA N

Hi my name is Emilia and I will be talking about the toymaker shop. It was so awesome, we got to make a spintop. I was in a group with Piper and Christine. It took a while but eventually we got it working perfectly. We timed how long it took to stop spinning. Before I give the answer can anyone guess how long it took? Here's a hint it's in the 20s. When we finished we got free play. It was the BEST time ever.

JARVIS G

I awoke with a startle and said Eli had his turn, and now it’s my turn to go to Legoland. I went to have my breakfast and packed a Melbourne Victory bag which said ‘JARVIS’ so we knew who it was. I sat next to Jason on the bus and off we went, I was so excited.

We had to line up against a window and inside was the guest lounge. It looked like a V.I.P lounge! We went with F/1 and had to ask a security guard where Legoland was because Chadstone is such a massive shopping centre.

Finally, we got there and ate our brain food. They announced the groups and I was In Mrs. Andrade’s group and we went on The Kingdom Quest. The Kingdom Quest is where you have to save a princess and shoot the bad skeletons, monsters, spiders and bats.

There was a place where it was like the city and it was made all out of Lego! It would have taken them so long to build! There was another cool ride that I wanted to go on ( because I went there before) but it was closed so we couldn’t go on it.

Next was the soft play area where there was a big playground and Miles,Freddie,Eli and I tried to make a big barrier/ wall just for fun 😁.

I had a gingerbread man and a honey sandwich for  lunch and we went to something called The workshop ( I think?) and we had to make a spinner and see which side span the most on the top. Yellow was the best on the top because  the red side had a smaller axel so that made it more balanced. And then we had lunch and had some free time but if you wanted to go on a ride your group had to know. We got back to school and played soccer.

5/6 STUDENT LEADERS FORUM

Beth L and Eli G represented the school at a year 5/6 student leaders forum facilitated by Jess Wilson the Member for Kew. Beth and Eli delivered a couple of speeches…..

Beth: Good morning  everybody, my name is Beth and I’m from St Annes, I’m here to talk about junk mail, everyone gets lots of it. I, myself, have a no junk-mail sign on my mailbox, yet junk mail is 90% of what my house gets every week.. Very few houses do like getting junk mail, but even so, the houses that try to refuse it still have to accept they’re not the big problem. Oh sorry, I’ve forgotten that, all of the junk mail being thrown away adds up to 18.9 kilograms of paper which is 6 percent of the use of paper in Australia! And only 63% of that is recycled. If you’re delivering mail, or organizing what goes to different houses, just know that if you have junk mail delivered to a house that has a no junk-mail sign on it, you have just wasted so much. Because even though the thought may be loud, the amount wasted is even louder. Thank you :)

Eli:  Hi  I’m from St Annes and I'm here to talk to you about renewable energy. But first, let me introduce myself. I am Eli from St Annes school Kew East and I have something very serious to talk about, everybody thinks electricity is good right? WRONG! Most electricity is made from coal and that is very bad for the environment unlike solar and wind energy. Did you know that only 2% of the earth's energy is sourced from solar energy and only 6% is wind energy. You might think that is good enough but I think not and lots of people feel that way and If we don't act now the human race will die out in less than 100 years. So act now or else kids will have to suffer for past generations' mistakes.

So please we ask you to act now and to switch energy sources, thank you :)
