A FEW WORDS FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear families

As we move into the home stretch for 2024, there are many events and activities that I want to share with you.

Remembrance Day Assembly

I firstly want to acknowledge our Lighthouse Leaders who led our school’s observance of Remembrance Day. They spoke with appropriate feeling, demonstrating a deep understanding of the importance and significance of the day. I am always really impressed by the respectful manner of our students who honored the occasion with excellent behaviour. Classes designed poppies and wreaths as a mark of respect to those who served. We have displayed their creative artwork in our front office.

End of Year Concert

Classes are busy preparing their items for our End of Year Concert. This is always a highlight on our school’s calendar. This year we have a wide variety of dance and musical items, including special performance from our school choir, whole school performances and there may even be something for 'Swifties' to conclude proceedings! Our concert will commence at 6pm on Thursday 5th December, with all students required to be at their classrooms at 5:30pm. Our parent volunteers have very kindly offered to run a sausage sizzle for purchase, before the concert commences. Please refer to the separate Audiri post with further information.

Minister for Education Visit

This week we were very fortunate to have a visit from the Education Minister, The Hon. Blair Boyer MP, and the newly elected Member for Black, Alex Dighton. It was terrific to showcase our fantastic school to our guests. They were able to see Literacy routines in our reception classes as well as some computer animated designs in House 9. Both visitors complimented the quality of learning in our school and the welcoming and respectful students who spoke about their learning with great enthusiasm. We are looking forward to working closely with Alex in his new role as our local MP.

2025 Class Structure

We are busy with our class structure for 2025. This is a really big job and is based on a range of factors:

  • the estimated numbers of students in each year level
  • staff and team-teaching arrangements
  • the learning needs of all students; and
  • class locations and more.

Class structures also involve knowing who will be teaching at Hallett Cove East Primary School and the year levels each teacher will be taking, usually not fully confirmed until late in the school year.

Each year, class groupings are configured based on student numbers across all year levels. All schools are funded on the basis of 26 students per class in Reception to Year 2 and 30 students per class in Years 3 to 6. This year we will need to form a number of composite classes to accommodate student numbers in each year level. This is consistent with most schools. Composite classes are no different to straight year level classes where a range of student abilities and learning dispositions exist. Teachers work closely in teams to plan learning programs to cater for a range of ages and abilities in every class, composite and straight.

Due to the ever-changing nature of enrolments at this time of the year, we are having to work through alternate structures to manage numbers and accommodate all available information from students, teachers and parents. We are aiming to have class placements shared with you on Wednesday of week 9.

With regards

Matthew Chapman

Principal

A FEW WORDS FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL

Dear HCEPS community,

It is hard to believe we only have 3 weeks left of our school year for 2024!

Over the last two weeks, we have welcomed our new receptions for their transition visits as they prepare to start school at HCEPS in 2025,

Transitioning from kindergarten to primary school is an exciting experience for both children and parents. It marks a major milestone in a child's educational journey, and the process of adjusting to a new environment, new routines, and new expectations. As educators and parents, it’s crucial to create a supportive environment that helps ease this transition and sets children up for success in primary school.

The transition to primary school is often the first significant educational shift a child experiences. While kindergarten provides a nurturing environment where children begin to develop social skills, basic academic knowledge, and emotional resilience, primary school introduces more structured learning and greater independence. This transition can feel like a big leap, and children may experience a mix of excitement, curiosity, and nervousness. It's important to recognize that children’s experiences can vary—some may adapt quickly, while others may need additional support.

What Parents Can Do to Help

Positivity

Children often mirror their parents’ emotions. Keeping a positive and enthusiastic attitude about the transition will encourage your child to feel more excited and optimistic. Talk about the exciting new experiences they will have and the wonderful opportunities to make new friends and learn new things.

Communication

Stay connected with your child's teachers and school staff. Regular communication helps you stay informed about your child's progress and any areas where they may need additional support. If your child is having difficulty adjusting, don't hesitate to seek advice from the school or access additional resources.

Reassure and Celebrate Milestones

Remind your child that it’s okay to feel nervous, and celebrate the small victories along the way. Whether it's the first day of school or mastering a new skill, taking time to acknowledge accomplishments boosts self-esteem and reinforces the idea that challenges are opportunities for growth.

Fostering independence

Primary school students are often expected to be more independent. Encourage your child to take responsibility for simple tasks, such as packing their own school bag, organizing their school materials, or managing their time for homework. Building these habits before the school year starts can help children feel more capable and prepared.

We look forward to our new receptions joining our Hallett Cove East community in 2025.

Kind regards,

Robyn Physick

A FEW WORDS FROM OUR WELLBEING LEADER

Last week, we came together to celebrate World Kindness Day at Hallett Cove East Primary School. In Buddy Classes, students explored the many ways we can show kindness in our daily lives and helped decorate our Kindness Tree in the library.

We also worked with students to create the “Be the I in KIND” mural, now proudly displayed on the library wall, as a reminder of the impact each of us can have when we choose kindness.

This year’s theme, Make Kindness the Norm, encourages us all to weave kindness into our everyday actions. Looking for ways to extend this at home? Visit www.randomactsofkindness.org for ideas and activities.

Gratitude Moment

A heartfelt thank you to our Student Wellbeing Leaders, who have successfully led Breakfast Club throughout the year. Each week, they’ve arrived early to prepare toast and fruit for their peers, demonstrating true dedication and leadership. Their contribution has been a valued part of our school community, and we deeply appreciate their efforts in making Breakfast Club such a success.

Kind Regards,

Ellie Burford
