Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Week 3 already!

Special Assembly

Thank you to those families who came to our special assembly on Monday.  The assembly was to present the first ever Father Bob Maguire 5Cs Award to a Grade 5 student who displayed our school values in the community.  On the last day of the Grade 5 camp last term, Rohan Dent happened to share the train from Melbourne with our Grade 5s.  He, along with several other train travellers, was extremely impressed with the behaviour and manners of our Grade 5 students and staff.  Rohan was on his way home from the State funeral for Father Bob Maguire, a friend of his for many years.

He contacted me at school and was very keen to set up an award to acknowledge the behaviour of MPS students and to honour Father Bob.  The 5Cs award references Father Bob’s 5Cs – Care, Compassion, Communication, Common Sense = Community.

Congratulations to Nathan Telpuk who received a plaque, a $100 voucher and has his name as the first recipient on our Father Bob Maguire Memorial Award Shield.

I would also like to thank Rohan Dent for making such an effort to acknowledge the incredible work our students do and our staff who support them every day.

NAPLAN

We have received our preliminary NAPLAN results from 2023 and they are really strong.  Families will be able to collect their individual results next week and we will share a summary of the results in next fortnight’s newsletter.

Skiing

Grade 4s have started their S2S cross-country ski program and will continue with it this week.  Grade 5 and 6 students will start their skiing next week. Grade 5 and 6 Snowsports is an optional extra activity at MPS.  We have learning and behavioural expectations that the students need to meet to be able to attend.  Please be aware, and remind your child, that if students are not meeting our expected behaviours, they will not be able to attend Snowsports.  This includes Red Folders in class and incidents in the yard.

Please remember to contact your teacher, the school office or me if you have any questions or concerns.

Take care.

Regards, Tom

State Cross Country

On Thursday 13th July, Mansfield Primary School had 4 students compete at the State Cross Country Championships, which was held in Yarra Glan at the Yarra Valley racing Club. The sun was out and it was a perfect day for racing. MPS was in the first event of the day with Zali Hopkins running in the 11yr old Girls. Cooper Hoebergen was next up in the 9/10yr old Boys event, followed by our 12/13yr old runners, Rachel Mercieca and Jack Clydesdale. The SSV State Cross Country Champs is one of the biggest events of the year and nerves were high for each of our runners. There were hundreds of people there cheering and watching them run. The track was muddy and known to “eat shoes” and they were up against the best of the best. All 4 MPS students ran with everything they had and didn’t leave anything on the track. It was great to see such positive sportsmanship and competition displayed. They each represented Mansfield Primary extremely well and should be very proud of their efforts and achievement.

A big shout out also to their amazing family support on the day. These students are very lucky to have such a great support network surrounding them and encouraging them to strive for their best. Congratulations to Zali, Cooper, Rach and Jack.

Grade 4 Cross Country skiing

Grade 4 Cross Country skiing up at Mt Stirling has gotten underway!!!! What amazing weather they have had so far. Unfortunately we have had to reschedule one of our Fridays so far, but fingers crossed for more snow and less rain!!!

The Grade 4 students have amazing instructors each session, learning all the skills they need to be successful in their cross country skiing.  Thank you to our parent helpers so far who have helped our students throve in the snow. Bring on the next two weeks!!!!!!!
