May 2026, Term 2 Week 2

A Message from the Principal

Welcome back to another busy and exciting term at PPS. It has been wonderful to see students settled, engaged and ready for learning. Across classrooms, there are so many great things happening, with students showing curiosity, effort and pride in their work. Thank you to our staff for continuing to provide quality learning experiences and to our families for supporting learning at home and at school.

A sincere thank you to all families who attended our ANZAC service. It was a respectful and meaningful occasion for our school community to come together and acknowledge the courage and sacrifice of those who have served. I would also like to thank Mr Hopson and our school leaders for representing PPS at the Dawn Service. We are very proud of the way they represented our school.

Thank you also to everyone who joined us for the Easter Hat Parade. It was fantastic to have so many families and community members involved. The hats were incredibly creative, colourful and fun, and the students loved sharing them with you. We are grateful to our community for purchasing raffle tickets and for the generous donations that made the raffle possible. A special thank you to our P&C for organising and running the raffle.

We also congratulate our students who represented PPS at the Zone Cross Country. We are proud of their effort, sportsmanship and determination, and thank them for representing our school with pride.

As we move into the cooler weather, we remind families of our school uniform expectations. Students should be wearing our school uniform each day, including warm clothing as needed. If families require warm uniform items, please contact the school office, as there may be items available through our second-hand clothing pool. We also ask that all clothing is clearly labelled so lost items can be returned quickly.

Thank you for your continued support of PPS. It is wonderful to see our school community working together to support our students.

Number Screening Check

The Year 1 Number Screening Check is a short statewide assessment that tells teachers how your child is progressing in early number sense. Some children find developing number sense challenging, so it is important these children are identified quickly. The main purpose of the screener is to provide your child’s teacher with information which will allow them to plan for your child’s learning and any specific support they may need. Your child will sit with the class teacher and will be asked to answer 30 questions. The screener normally takes up to 15 minutes. If your child is struggling the teacher will stop the screener. The screener is carefully designed not to be stressful for your child.

What is number sense?

Number sense is the ability to understand, relate to, and work with numbers effectively to participate in daily life and make sense of the world. It supports your child to understand more complex mathematical concepts in the later years of primary school and high school.

If you have any questions relating to the Year 1 Number Screening Check, please speak to your child’s class teacher.

ANZAC Day Asembly

We held our school’s ANZAC Day assembly, and it was a meaningful and respectful occasion for all students and staff involved. Our school leaders did an outstanding job running the assembly, demonstrating maturity, confidence, and a strong sense of respect for the significance of the day.

It was wonderful to see our school community come together to reflect and remember those who have served and continue to serve our country.

Newcastle Knights NRLW Gala Day

Seven girls from Plattsburg represented our school in rugby league at the Newcastle Knights NRLW Gala Day. The girls proudly represented our school, showing great enthusiasm, teamwork and determination across all games.

The girls played without any breaks as they had no subs and they showed resilience, supported each other and continued to improve throughout the day. It was fantastic to see their confidence grow, especially for those trying rugby league for the first time.

We are very proud of the way the team represented our school, both on and off the field & a big thanks to the Newcastle Knights and NRL for hosting such a great day!

Zone Cross Country

A huge congratulations to our students who competed at the Zone Cross Country! They demonstrated outstanding effort, perseverance and school spirit. They should be proud of their achievement.
