I would like to welcome all our existing families back to Newman PS in Term 4 and a warm welcome to our new families who have joined us.
Our first assembly was hosted by the pre-primary students who danced and sang to a song all about the weather. The student leadership team run our last assembly and what a wonderful job they have been doing with all their recent events! Congratulations to all award recipients for Term 4 so far. You have made a great start to the term. Ensure you keep up this hard work, as your teachers are always watching.
Our school has had a visit from the Director of Education, Pilbara Education Regional Office Ashley King. Ashley enjoyed a school tour and meeting some of the teachers and students. He was very impressed with the school and is looking forward to future visits. Ashley was even more impressed with our recent 2024 NAPLAN results.
Some of our classes were very lucky and recently had rugby sessions with Rugby WA. The students participated in lots of fun games. We would like to thank Rugby WA for their coaching during their time in Newman.
Friday, week 3 was the Bloody Slow Cup assembly. This moving event was well led by our student leaders and supported by our School board, P&C, Newman Police, Police from other states, WA Police Pipe band, Constable Care, community members who performed the Maori Haka and families of the fallen officers. Thank you to everyone who donated to Policy Legacy on this day. NPS raised $156 and this has been donated to Police Legacy. A massive thankyou to Brent and Roshan who then represented our school at the memorial site on Saturday morning and laid a wreath in memory of the Police Officers who tragically lost their lives.
Last week we celebrated World Teacher's Day. A massive thankyou to all the teachers for their dedication and work they do to support the students learning each and every day!
Wednesday 13 November, NPS will be holding student speeches. This is for all students who have nominated for the 2025 Student Leadership Team. Our 2025 Student leadership team will be announced at the end of year concert.
Traditional Friday afternoon sport: After several discussions with the staff regarding my concerns with children participating in whole school sport, in the intense heat and immediately following lunch, there have been some changes. Years 3 - 6 will have sport during period 1 on a Friday and Years 1 - 2 will have their sport session straight after recess. This is a trial, and it will be reviewed at the beginning of next year to see if these times remain.
We would like to thank and farewell Miss Dominique Potvin who will be leaving us at the end of week 5. Dominique has been at the school for a little over a term and is part of the flying squad. We wish her all the very best for her future endeavours.
Planning for 2025 is currently in progress. To assist us in the process, if you are leaving town in the coming weeks or at the end of the year, please send in an email to newman.ps@education.wa.edu.au or contact our front office on 9154 3900. This information will greatly assist our planning.
