Principal's News

Dear Families

A big thank you to our school leaders, volunteers and Mrs Koole for our very successful Shrove Tuesday. The pancakes were an absolute hit and as a school we raised $175 for Caritas Australia, who work towards eradicating poverty and injustice.

Camps

In 2023, a review of our stages of camp was undertaken with staff. We considered many aspects with the key ones being - learning outcomes, student readiness and wellbeing and the financial impacts on families. This was also discussed with our School Advisory Council. In light of this, our 2024 camps are:

  • Year 3 day camp: Don Bosco Camp Safety Beach, Monday 11 November.
  • Year 4 overnight camp: Don Bosco Camp Safety Beach, Monday 11 to Tuesday 12 November.
  • Year 5/6 two night camp: Sovereign Hill Camp Ballarat, Monday 20 to Wednesday 22 May.

Further information regarding these camps will occur closer to the date.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national standards. NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. The NAPLAN test window in 2024 will be 13 March to 25 March 2024.

Project Compassion

Project Compassion runs every year during Lent and is an opportunity to celebrate the generosity of the Australian Catholic community. Project Compassion raises much-needed funds to help alleviate poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity in the most vulnerable and marginalised communities in the world. You can support Project Compassion at www.caritas.org.au/project-compassion and/or in each of our classrooms we have a Project Compassion box that students can place donations in. Thank you for the donations so far!

School Tours

This week we have started welcoming Prep tours for 2025, our advertisement is in the Community News below. We also invite you to announce this news to your families and friends and ask them to call the Office to arrange a school tour.

The Age

Today ‘The Age’ published a significant article regarding the direction of Melbourne Catholic Education entitled ‘The big change coming to the way Catholic school kids are taught.’ Yesterday, Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools launched a Vision for Instruction for its 300 schools, saying evidence now supports explicit instruction as the best way of teaching children. Melbourne Catholic schools will overhaul how students learn reading, writing and maths in a move expected to ramp up the pressure on the Victorian government to give greater guidance to state teachers. Read more at The Age.

In closing, we are still seeking PFA Class Representatives for four of our classrooms. If you think you could help please contact the school.

Go well 🙂
