Newsletter: Term 3 Issue 8

Principal's Message

Welcome to this edition of our school newsletter. It has been a very busy and enjoyable Term 3. A big congratulations to our students from Room 1 who presented an amazing assembly item on the book the “Elephant and the Boy’ that they had adapted. Their writing, performance of their pages, as well as their artwork were on show for all to see, an amazing effort!

We have welcomed our new Deputy Principal to work with our leadership team on our school improvement initiatives. Please see below where Miss Rachel Subhaya has introduced herself. Miss Subhaya has most recently come from Cunderdin DHS and has a passion for improving student outcomes. We are excited for her to be joining our team. Please say hello is you see her around the school.

We have recently run our Faction Athletics Carnival, Jumps and Throws Day and ECE Fun Carnival. The students were fantastic participants and joined in a variety of athletic and fun events. Well done to everyone for their sportsmanship and comradery. A big congratulations to the runner up and champion students and of course, Parnka, for bringing home the shield. Thank you to the staff who organised and ran events and to our community members who helped with the days. Next week our selected students will be representing the school at our Interschool Events for Years 2-6.

We had some very successful events since our last edition and many of them are showcased below. Miss Cook organised a great Bookweek parade where our students and staff creativity certainly came to the fore. Additionally, we have had activities from Aus Earth, Nexus Science, Father’s Day Maths and Footy Morning, P&C stalls and Golf and Football clinics.

Our staff have been busy as well with some professional learning to support our students. We have had many teachers giving up their Saturdays to complete Classroom Management Strategies training and TeachWell (a direct instruction strategy to support engagement and curriculum delivery). We were privileged enough to host the Karijini Network of schools to learn about the Future Leaders Framework and where this can build the personal attributes and skills of our staff.

Issues may arise during your child’s schooling and these are more productively resolved if you raise them with the school directly, as early as possible. If you are not sure who to speak to, you can start with your child’s teacher. For some matters, it may be appropriate to talk directly to our administration team. Our priority is always your child and in developing a close relationship with our school community where we all work together to provide the best educational opportunities for all children at Newman Primary School.

Welcome to our New Deputy

Hello Everyone,

I have had a wonderful week here at Newman Primary School. It feels like home given the warm welcome and the diversity of the community. I am originally from India which is also a diverse country.  I have worked and thrived in the Education System in various countries for more than two decades. There is never a dull moment working in the education system. However, I genuinely aspire to see every student under my care develop into a literate world citizen.

Kind regards

Rachel Subhaya

Athletics Carnival 2023

In Week 6, all students participated in our faction athletics carnival on our school oval. It was fantastic to see all of the parent support on the day and the weather certainly turned it on for us. Well done to all of the students who participated with enthusiasm and sportsmanship to represent themselves and their factions.

A big thank you to Mr Chappellow for his organisation of his first faction carnival and to all of the helpers behind the scenes, both staff and parents.

Congratulations to all of the champions and runner up students and well done to Parnka for taking out the shield :-)

ECE Fun Carnival

In week 7, our Kindergarten and Pre-Primary students participated in a fun Athletics Carnival. So much fun was had by everyone who attended! All students showed off their skills from egg and spoon races, flag races, long jump, tug-a-war, throwing and running races! Such little superstars and thank you to all the parents who came along to support the event.

Father's Day Math's and Footy

Newman Primary School students celebrated Father’s Day with a Maths and Footy morning. Father’s, positive male role models and carers are currently at school having a wonderful time with the students. Thank you for all that you do and for coming along today to this special event!
