Newsletter: Term 4 Issue 10

Principal's Message

Welcome to the final edition of our newsletter for 2023. As they say, time flies when you are having fun. I would like to personally thank the staff and community for your ongoing support throughout Term 4 as I stepped into the Principal role. I am excited to announce that I will continue in this role throughout Term 1 2024.

Our last assembly for the year was hosted this week by Room 5. After reading the story Thelma the Unicorn, they made up their own story called Poppy the Kangaroo. What an awesome job they did retelling the story, incorporating actions that are used from our Talk4Writing program. Congratulations to all of our award recipients. The students are continuing to work hard right up until the end of the year doing amazing things!

Recently, we were very privileged to have so many of our students' complete speeches to nominate for student leadership roles in 2024. Well done to all of those who stood up and spoke so confidently in front of your peers, teachers and members of the community. The 2024 Student Leadership team will be announced at our End of Year Concert in week 9. Every student should be very proud of their efforts. I know I was super impressed.

Last week we trialled a whole school transition event for the students. All students had the opportunity to move into their next year's class level and work with new teachers. The pre-primary students will soon be introduced into their new eating areas and playgrounds for 2024. The Year 6 students have had orientation opportunities at Newman Senior High School.

Next week on Thursday 7 December, commencing at 6:30pm will be our whole school K-6 end of year concert "Dancing through the Decades". Should the weather be unkind to us, we will reschedule the concert to Friday 8 December, commencing at 9:00am. All award winners and Student Leadership Team for 2024 will be announced on the night.

Tuesday 12 December, commencing at 9:00am is the Year 6 Graduation Ceremony. Year 6 students will receive their awards on this day, not at the end of year concert. Following the ceremony, Graduates and their parents/carers will be invited to join together in the school library for a small celebration. Following the celebration, Year 6 students will have a fun day at Newman Aquatic Centre. We look forward to celebrating our Year 6 students!

We are extremely lucky this year to be keeping the majority of our staff for 2024. Unfortunately, we do have a couple of sad farewells. We are really excited for them, and we know that they will continue to shine in their teaching roles. You have been amazing, and we will miss you.

* Mrs Mariana Andrade who has gained a fulltime teaching position in Northam.

* Ms Joanne Callaghan who is returning to her substantive position at Rockingham Lakes Primary School.

On behalf of the students, staff and community, we sincerely wish you all the best!

We are expecting the delivery of pre-ordered booklists to arrive on Tuesday 5 December. Information will be communicated to you once these have arrived and are ready for collection.

Class lists for 2024: Student class lists will be posted up on the school notice board near the canteen on Monday 29 January 2024. These lists can be viewed from 1:00pm onwards on this day. This will enable to Administration staff to make changes and adjustments as necessary with movement over the Christmas period.

It is the time of year for some families to leave our school community. I am confident that you will take many great memories of Newman Primary School with you - good luck wherever you are going.

On behalf of the staff, I would like to wish everyone safe travels, an enjoyable break, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We look forward to seeing all students on Wednesday 31 January 2024 to commence the new school year!
