Leadership News

A message from Julie

Wow! It is hard to believe that we are now over half way through the term, with only 4 weeks left of the 2025 school year. I am not sure about you, but this term seems to be moving VERY quickly.

In exciting news, our playground work has started today, with the installation of temporary fencing around the primary playground. The school and OSHC, have contributed a significant amount of funds towards the playground, with the monies raised from fundraising this year also going towards the playground. We are all very grateful of anyone who supported our fundraisers this year and it is exciting to see where the money is going. The demolition of the old equipment (the shade sails and swings are staying) begins on Monday, with the installation happening shortly after. The whole process will take around 3 weeks. We are hoping to be able to play on the equipment at the end of the term. Fingers crossed!

A little reminder about our kiss and drop parking zone. It is important to remember that this is a two-minute parking zone and drivers are to remain with their vehicle. There is also a 25km school zone for drivers on Parsons Road in front of the school. We also encourage families to cross the road at our supervised crossing, rather than between the vehicles at the JP gate. There have been some near misses between cars and pedestrians and a recent car accident. The kiss and drop area is supervised until 3:15pm, after this time, any children who have not yet been collected are walked to the front office, where will contact parents. If you are running late for any reason, it is appreciated that you contact the office.

Classes are busy learning and rehearsing for the end of year concert, with this year’s concert having a sports theme. We are looking forward to the performance on Tuesday December 2. You are welcome to bring along family and friends. There will be a sausage sizzle on the night, with sausages needing to be pre-ordered on QkR!. Please reach out to your classroom teachers or the office if you have any questions. An exciting time for all of our students.

Remembrance Day

REMEMBRANCE DAY

On the 11th of November at 11am, the students and staff participated in a minutes silence for Remembrance Day. Special thanks to the P3 students for their work and to Jasmine, Ellie and Inayat, who shared the words below over our loud speaker.

Ellie:

Today is Remembrance Day. A day we gather to remember the soldiers who fought in the wars to keep Australia safe.

They showed great courage and strength, with many of their lives sacrificed to protect our freedom.

Because of them, we can live in peace and enjoy the country we have today.

Their bravery reminds us how important it is to help others, to be kind and to stand up for what is right.

Inayat:

At 11 am on 11th November 1918 the gunfire fell silent on the western front after more than four years of war and so, every year, we fall silent and take time to honour their bravery and the sacrifices they made.

The soldiers left their families and risked everything to help others.

We thank them for their service and for making Australia a better and safer place.

We remember their courage, their kindness, and their love for Australia.

Jasmine:

This day is special because it helps us stop and think about what they did for us.

They will go down in history for their bravery and their sacrifice, and we promise to never forget them.

We will now fall silent for a minute to reflect on the fallen, be thankful for their service and remember how lucky we are to live in peace because of their courage.

All (after 1 minute silence):

We will remember…… always.

Presentation of flags

On Tuesday 11th November, 2025 Claire Clutterham, MP, came to the school and presented the school with new flags. Claire spoke to the students about her role as a MP and the students were able to ask Claire questions about her role.  We thank her for the donation and for her time.

This year Dernancourt School will be supporting the North Eastern Community Assistance Project with their Christmas Appeal again. We will be collecting non perishable food items that will be placed in Christmas hampers for the less fortunate families in our Community.

Baskets will be placed in the front foyer of the main building to collect these items. Christmas puddings, cakes, lollies, long life custard, tinned ham etc would be appreciated to spread the Christmas cheer. Any non perishable items such as tea, coffee, hot chocolate, tinned fruit and vegetables, long life milk, noodles, biscuits, cereal etc would be great.

Donation boxes will be on hand at our end of year concert. Please bring along items and place in our collection boxes.
