Churchlands Primary School Newsletter

Volume 48 - 09/06/2023

Principal's Message

CPS is celebrated for providing learning environments that challenge students thinking while having fun! Last Friday some of our Year 3 – 6 students participated in the Churchlands PS Keen2STEAM challenge. The competition was initiated a few years ago by Mrs Reid and Mr Johnson to support the growing need for greater opportunities for students to challenge themselves in STEAM and also to engage with students from other schools in the network. This year the competition extended beyond our network schools which was amazing!

We were privileged to have Dr Bruce Webber from CSIRO support the challenge by sharing his expertise in climate change and events that have an adverse effect on our environment, which links so well with our global goals and how we play an important role in affecting change. This year we were also privileged to have Dr Grant Pusey, STEM specialist from Churchlands SHS, come on board to support the competition and also offer the SHS for this year’s event. The students were also treated to an exceptional digital technology expo developed by the CSHS year 12 students. They were pretty amazing!

Providing an avenue for students to be part of this incredible learning opportunity, supports our aim of challenging students thinking and affording them the chance to learn from experts and engage and share their skills and knowledge with others.

Huge accolades to Ms Goodwin, Mr Johnson, Mrs Reid and Mrs Sara Morgan for developing such a high-quality educational opportunity for so many schools and students.

Don’t forget to get your Kindergarten and Pre-Primary enrolments in by the end of the term!

Premier’s Reading Challenge 2023

The Premier’s Reading Challenge has kicked off to a great start with almost 100 students already registered. Collectively, these students have already read and recorded a staggering 344 books!

It would be wonderful to see this number grow over the coming weeks and to have more of our students here at Churchlands PS involved.

The challenge

Anyone from Kindergarten to Year 10 can register to take part in the challenge. You can access over 7,000 book titles, which can be logged onto your child's bookshelf. While the challenge is for your child to log a minimum of 12 books, feel free to log more!

By logging books, your child can be in the running to win fantastic weekly prizes. The prizes include experiences such as a zipline from Matagarup Bridge, Perth Zoo family passes, book packs and much more!

All students who log a minimum of 12 books over the challenge are also in the running for an end-of-year prize.
